Ophelia, our tribute clone of the purple 1850 that Oliver made in the mid 1960s, is going to go to work mowing hay. Right up until things go wrong. The swear jar gets a workout in this one!

You just made She Who Must Be Obeyed, The Supreme Household Commander, my boss for 58 years who taught me one week after we wedded that what is should always say in Yes dear, you are right dear, break a big smile. Juliet is going to the garden today to attack weeds with her cultivator. However, her stepmom, Estella, loves your video.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris Thank you and happy birthday to Pop Randy. We went to the big garden and double-side dressed about 1,000 ft. of sweet corn with 32-0-5 fertilizer using our earth-way push planter with a beet disk to meter the fertilizer. Due to my damaged knee, the supreme household commander did most of the fertilizing. The garden was simply too wet for Juliet to work with her cultivator. Wish I was there to help get the mommy tractor back into action. We thought it was great when the 55 series went to the external pump but then the problem of the upper 3 pt. link flexing the hydraulic housing and causing the gaskets to walk out and start leaking oil down over the PTO housing. The cure was to increase the size of the bolts on the back of the housing.

My old White 2-85 would lose fuel prime within 12 hours after sitting and sometimes would die all of a sudden on me (left me walking a time or two now I'm afraid to leave the shop with it :). It's been sitting in the shed un-run for awhile because I got tired of fooling with it, but I want to get it woken back up again. It would start back up and run after I bled the system outlined in the OM after it dies or sits overnight. I had changed the fuel filters, had the injector pump rebuilt, and am in the process of putting the little primer diaphram pump on new. My new lead theory is that I also have tried to re-introduce the "lower" fuel tank back into service. (grandpa shut the valve and stopped using it all together years ago) I ordered a new check valve, new shutoff valve, and the funky elbow hose that hooks into the lower fuel line, and I'm wondering if that isn't the place I really should be starting from when I get back into diagnostics. I also had bought brand new fuel caps, vented on bottom, non-vented up top. I'm reading guys online that have just thrown the check valve out entirely and it has worked for them, but I was wondering if I didn't install it backwards or something silly like that. I flushed and flushed with gas, vinegar, pressure washer, you name it, trying to clean that lower tank out but I've probably got some gunk still lurking around in that lower tank due to years sitting idle. Is there something else I need to be checking for or am I likely in the right area?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have a vacuum that is pulling fuel back out of the system. The big thing is, something has to take the place of the fuel that was in the pump, and that is air. So air is getting in somehow. I think you might be on the right track replacing the lift pump. That has check valves in it to keep the fuel going in the right direction, and they should keep the tank from sucking the fuel out. I'd still say there must be some kind of leak in the injection pump to let the air in. It could also be at the filters. Or that lift pump. Maybe you could rig up some kind of small fuel tank/container to run the tractor with for a short time. Then if it still gets air in it, you will at least know it is not the fuel tanks. Wish I could be more help, it's a head scratcher for sure.
@wags3016
@wags3016 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Well that sounds good that it could be the lift pump. Now that I think about it, I have my suspicions about the injector pump because I'm not so sure I didn't see a small fuel weep from off the back side of it after I'd put it back on. I think my filter body is in good shape and I've put all the goodies back on new that you're given with the filters to seal those up. I greatly appreciate the feedback and the help. This is the only Oliver/White I've ever been around, so I'm always learning as I go.
