The pike is a fantastic survivor it has been persecuted through the centuries but still thrives. A bit like a fox really. It is so beautiful too.

Great vid . Something ive learned recently is to not let the line go too slack when trying to unhook Soft plastic and jig head caught perch . Especially when holding the perch vertically with its head up . The weight of the jig head can cause the soft plastc and hook to slide further down the fishes mouth and into the fishes stomach . Although is rare it does happen , mainly when using barbless hooks . Enjoyed the vid and look forward to seeing more BFS vids . A big fat like from me !!!!

When i was younger in the 80's, i caught pike and perch on red thick elastic, the half inch wide 1mm thick stuff. I use to sea fish so i used size 4 Aberdeen hooks, hooked about 2-3mm down, then cut it to about 2-3 inch long. I had to put a AAA split shot or 2 on so i could cast on my 6ft Woolworths solid fiberglass rod in a dashing blue and a crappy reel that came with it. I had some nice fish, even caught whiting and mackerel on it too. Not one of my mates believed me until i got them to come with me as none of them really fished. But it worked and i wish i'd of stuck with fishing like that for the predators but got into, sea and course fishing which i still do.

First of all, thanks for your vids...love them! I decided to go for it and buy the combo. I opted for fluro. There are no instructions with the reel. Do you know what the line capacity is? Because they only gave me 50m of fluro...am I correct in thinking I need to put some other line on the reel first, before the fluro? I don't want to put the fluro on and then find out it's not enough to fill the spool? I've never even seen a baitcaster before in my life so it's all new to me. Thanks.

Not much you can do with a deep hooked perch like that mate, had it happen to me occasionally, its never nice its just part of the sport I guess. Another good video, inspired me to dust off the bfs tackle and get back out! Quick question I can't see on the video, when fishing over to the far margin in the clear water are you sight fishing? Or just fishing to that specific feature? Deep hole, far margin ext? Many thanks
@The_ginger_fisherman3 жыл бұрын
To answer your question: All of the above buddy. If i see fishy shapes i'll cast. if its an over hanging tree i'll cast and same if it looks like a deep hole. and last but not least large weed patches creating small areas of slack water.

This guy could get alot of fun out of a shimano dc reel Edit: or softjerks, since you can really control depth quite well with those because of the slow sinking.

Nice video. Why pliers & not long nose forceps?🤔
@elwooddestiny11blues203 жыл бұрын
Why pliers ? Long nose pliers and a 6 inch pair of cutters (minimum length ) are a must if you care about the fish . Long nose forceps wouldnt have got a strong enough grip on the jig head to unhook that deep hooked perch he had and would have made unhooking that perch harder and caused more damage . With 6 inch cutters , if your having problems unhooking a deep hooked fish , you can cut the lead head off the jig head . You ll then be left with just the hook to remove . Its a lot easier to unhook deep hooked fish then and less likely kill the fish . I learned the hard way unfortunately and hope the fish survived . Forcepts are light and easy but not up to with deep hooked fish .
@catalickconverta68233 жыл бұрын

Hi! I’m looking to fish small soft plastics on jig heads on my local canal targeting mostly perch and pike. I want to use a trace does anyone have any recommendations on which to use? I’ve been looking at fluorocarbon traces but don’t know much about them. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks!
@firenfry3 жыл бұрын
If you havent found your answer already try looking for esox soft strand in about 10lb its cheap and really fine diameter and is pretty decent stuff it can kink sometimes if snag on stuff but its cheap so no biggy. You can get titanium stuff that doesnt kink up but its a bit more pricier. Fluro works good just get some decent stuff would be my advice i use seaguar abrazx works ok for me.

Catch and release ,when fishing for perch in the 🇬🇧 uk
@Rose.Of.Hizaki3 жыл бұрын
Its highly illegal to eat fish caught from the river here in the UK -- Although a certain demographic have ignored this in its entirety and still do. Its totally decimated fish stocks over the last decade when it comes to the likes of big canal pike and carp. Though the issue isnt as severe the further up north you go because these folks prefer living in a big city due to the amount of jobs and work they can get.
@darkiee693 жыл бұрын
Those are Euoropean perch, a close relative to the yellow perch. And yes, they're edible, but have lots of bones.
