I didn’t notice that. The laser is more powerful. If you’re getting charring, turn the power down.

@@ChrisPowellFSD Agreed. Charring is due to settings, not the laser itself. The faster you go, the less charring. That's where I disagree slightly with Chris, I think you shouldn't turn the power down, you should turn the speed up.

Thanks for the review. I am still pondering the P2 vs the Gweike Cloud Basic (I don't need the rotary) for a strictly hobby laser. Many of the complaints in this video seem to relate to productivity/recouping the investment. For someone who will run this a couple of hours a month at most, and considering that the P2 is $4700 vs $2275 for the Gweike Cloud Basic II - is it really worth it? Are the end results better on the P2?

Nothing about the Gweike made me want to own one. It was just a miserable machine to use. My P2 works great and does exactly what I need it to do. It was always a fight with the Gweike.

It looks like you have the Husky 72W x 24D HD 18-Drawer Mobile Workbench. Will the feet of the riser base rest securely on this workbench with minimal overhang of the P2? I ordered the P2 almost two weeks ago but it has yet to ship (possibly because I also included all of the accessories). I'd like to have a mobile workbench ready for when it arrives.

John Burns has that table & it fits good. I, too, procured one of those tables for when our P2 gets here. The feet are not as wide as the machine & the machine fits good on 24 inch tabletops - the handle + the exhaust outlet circle are counted in those measurements, so the base itself, the overall machine, is smaller/less deep than the official measurements. Those will stick over the table, but the feet of the machine & the riser base itself fit the table. If 52 inches is long enough for you (machine is 39 inches), the “dark stain” husky table is the cheapest option & comes with 1 drawer, whereas every other option, including shorter than 52 inch without drawers cost more. I am very happy with it & am going to get another myself. Someone did a video of best table for p2 laser, I forget his channel name. He has like 4 or 5 husky tables, take a look to that video, he added on accessories for wire management, good video.

Can the xtool p2 cut metal?

You have to turn on "activate Z axis" in lightburn to be able to auto focus. I have the gweike cloud pro and use Lightburn and have never manually adjusted the z axis (laser nozzle height). Additionally the Gweike does have some inherent design flaws that cause alot of them to not run the speeds they advertise without losing position or quality. I solved this with about $300 and a little time and now mine can double the factory advertised speeds while still keeping good quality.

I couldn’t get that to work with mine. Their “auto focus” is supposed to work with their software by reading the QR code on the material. I was never able to use that though since the program wouldn’t work.

@Chris Powell If you turn on "activate Z axis" you will get a new box on the layers tab called material. In that box you enter (17 minus your material thickness) so if you were using 3mm material, you would enter 14. That 17 is the theoretically perfect distance the head needs to travel to put the focal point right on top of the honeycomb table. Every machine varies slightly so you would need to perform a ramp test to dial that number in. Then that new number minus material thickness would be what you enter in materials box. I have seen people receive a machine with a bad z axis motor or limit switch that prevented it from working though.

​@@reeves29456 having to manually input anything suggests to me that it's not true "auto" focus. The P2 needs no manual input, just a click on a button within the software. The P2 is definitely closer to "auto" focus

It’s easy to criticise when your getting them for free, me, I can’t justify the extra 3 grand. For all its “issues” it will still be able to pay for itself a whole lot quicker than the P2.

Suit yourself. The extra 1800 (not 3000 - where do you even get that figure? It is nowhere near 3k more than cloud or polar) is well worth it. This laser does SEVERAL things NO OTHER DESKTOP LASER AT ALL does + at 4299 I paid, it is way cheaper than a rip-off 7k locked down glowforge. There is nothing like this on the market & the polar & cloud are both junk IN COMPARISON to a P2, friend. I am not even being rude: I am telling you simply & outright; there is nothing else like this on the market & it is going to change the game. You can go watch Under Dunn compare the cloud to the polar & see for yourself, those machines are bunk in comparison.

@@ChrisPowellFSD yeah I agree, I was more talking to the guy who thinks 5k is 3k more than 3200 :P It really depends what you want the machine for, too, right? I mean if a person ONLY needs to cut ONE material - say, acrylic for prototypes - their Co2 laser is only a small part of their ambitions, there is no reason for a p2. But people who want to do a lot of things with the laser & it is the center of their hobby or business, there really is nothing on the level of P2 right now, I am sure you agree. Great video.

Metal enclosures can protect against radiation, but plastic enclosures cannot protect against radiation. Plastic is easier to damage, and many customers received xtool P2 machine shells has been broken.

Only lead can protect against radiation. It is an agitated co2 ray, not a reactor :P xD FedEx breaks stuff. People drop them then say FedEx did it, too. FedEx is replaced with UPS now 😊 I have seen people post on the facebook that the packaging now has wooden slats reinforcement on the outside, too.
