This video hits me right in my soul - hip bump/slide with no rotation is my primary swing flaw. Also, completely unrelated: I put the alignment stick through the belt loops to practice this in the living room just now. Forgot it was there when I went for more coffee. And got stuck in the doorway 😂😂😂

I'm a tired old Marine trying to improve my swing well enough to enjoy time with my son who is an excellent golfer. I've watched more videos online that I'd want to confess to but this may be the most overall significant video I've ever watched. This video addresses my problems of slide vs. turn, early extension, over the top downswing, lack of hip rotation and shoulder spin. I will watch this video more times than I will ever admit. Thank you very much for your efforts in composing and posting this video.

Chris, this has to be one of your best ever golf instructional videos. Very timely also for me. I was trying to understand the movement into impact and this drill with the alignment stick through your belt loops to simulate the hip rotation while at the same time demonstrating the shoulder pivot motion while staying on plane was sheer genius. For me it helps connect many missing dots around the entire release of the club as it approaches impact. Including links to the need to move from forward bend into Extension. Thus enabling that elusive pressure / weight forward, hands forward / shaft lean downward strike on my irons giving that great compression onto the ball with ball then turf connection. Supported by the trail shoulder pivoting downward as the hands exit left. Amazing 🎉

FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! I never fully appreciated how the trail hip is supposed to rotate UP and then, after the hips rotate DOWN, the lead hip rotates UP, all in one smooth, continuous motion - at least, that's how I now see it. Mentally I had mistakenly broken my swing up into too many discrete pieces, and and as a result my hips weren't moving properly, but now they are. Thank you!!!

love this!! You have such a smooth swing. One thing that helps me on rotation is to push my front leg down forcing that hip socket back. That helps my rotation. This is a great video!! Great lesson Chris, I watched your right hip very carefully and it sort of moves on it's own little swing path. I've never thought too much about my hips, they just went along for the ride with my shoulder turn, but moving the right hip on it's own little swing path, moving down, around, and up makes it much easier to get back to the ball. I don't have to manipulate my posture or stretch my arms out to the ball in the downswing. Thank you.

Really well explained. I’m a low hc player but occasionally have the ‘hip bump’ causing a block /push slice. Two other pro’s said I need to make sure I ‘cover the ball’ and feel I’m hitting left for a full rotation. Your video explained the issue fully and has help me with drill to rotate properly and stop the hip bump. Please keep the videos coming!

Great video. The first part about the angle of the hips was the answer to a problem I've had for a long time. I would rotate through, but with my hips remaining level. This often led to me staying to much on my right side and not getting a proper weight shift forward. This also caused me to tilt my upper body rearward as I started down. This is exactly what I needed to see

Brilliant video. Some people swing like a robot because that's how their instructors told them. But they never understand the reasoning behind all that sequence. My understanding is that, physically we need to rotate the hip first while the arms stay put (i.e. don't swing yet), the hip rotation will automatically provide some speeds to the upper body and thus the arms, then the arms can follow, and at least, the hinges on the wrists left loose to whip the club. Easier said than done. If you observe great players doing it, they all do the same exact sequence. Most beginners really wants to hit the ball hard. And they ended up using a lot of powers from their arms and started pitching the club instead.

Well, I'm off to buy some alignment sticks as this video is exactly what I'm doing wrong when I video'd myself. Everything is 'perfect' right up the club becoming parallel to the ground on the downswing. Then at impact I'm vertical over the ball and shoulders are 'up' exactly like his example in the drill #2. Ive always struggled and never been able to fix it despite lessons, ill mention this at my next lesson (i know how much my instructor hates students that know it all from youtube vids tho lol).
