So i just went to the range, focusing on a nice, high backswing, and starting to load my front leg while dropping the club, and boom, no more swinging from the outside. I was flushing everything and it seemed like my swing was effortless, just because of that first move of dropping the club downwards, allowing more time for my legs and hips to make power. It also felt great crushing draws with the ball just inside my back heel. Unreal feels man - best range session yet kudos to you! From 🇨🇦

I just discovered this video of yours and want to thank you. I have played off of 6 handicap and the pulled shot has always been my bugbear. I have never heard of this tip of placing the ball back in the stance. I have just come back from the golf range and apart from hitting behind the ball a bit for the first 6 or so shots, I am pleased to say it definately does work. In fact hitting a draw feels really good as its not something I ever usually do. Thanks again, and I have subscribed.

Chris. I’ve been playing golf for just over 20 years, ( started aged 50 ), always an “ over the top” swing. I’ve just taken this to the course and hit the furthest drive I’ve ever made. So many good shots in the round. Here’s hoping I can get it into my routine. Trail arm under lead arm, simple. Many thanks.

Chris, I think this drill makes complete sense. My only challenge is that I tend to come over the top early in the downswing (with a steep shaft) and then somehow correct it half way down by re-routing the club and early extending. This means that at impact - all being well - I do actually come from the inside. But it is erratic as it involves perfect timing and early extension. Do you have any drills that stop the over the top move right at the very start of the downswing?
@mntlblok Жыл бұрын
Got here with that very issue. That the golf gods allow "some" percentage of perfect shots, it means that when you hit the really crappy one with what feels like the same swing, then the degree of anger and disappointment is greatly magnified. Those first two drills look to be both boring and potentially painful. :-) The third one, however, looks to be much more fun, and I don't see how it could be done *without* dropping the hands down more "in the back". Sick of trying to manipulate my right elbow and left wrist in an uncomfortable manner. Seems like just more of the same "sometimes the timing is right, sometimes not". That third drill with the ball back would seem to have the potential for grooving the move without having to think about it. Can see where I might just block the ball out to the right, but hitting into a net, so what? Shall give it a go and see if I can earn a cheap "feel".
@mntlblok Жыл бұрын
Gave it a go with DTL video. Still the same ugly early extension. Maybe that's just not what this is designed to fix, as I generally manage to "come from the inside" with my manipulations, anyway. Ball placed way back in my stance didn't make my hands arrive any lower to P6. My P6 seems to "align" OK, but my hands are clearly in a higher position than what good swings show. Oh, well. Lots of shot results seem nice from that position. Shall just lower my expectations and work more on the shot game. 🙂

Well. Just got back from the range. I have been a chronic over the top golfer all my life. Its not perfect, but using your first drill I was amazed at the results. I'm 68 years old. My PW before travelled about 100 yds on avg. I'm now hitting it around 120 (mini draw, sometimes a big pull). Of all the lessons and videos this is the best result oriented advice yet. I don't think I'm clearing my hips well but still...progress. I'm a slow learner (really slow) but I learn. I'm hoping that the "missing this piece" video will help me with this as well. Off to the range tomorrow and will try your third drill with the ball back in my stance. Stay tuned.

I like how you ‘guarantee’ this will fix it but I’ll not hold you to it lol! Great content Chris 👍🏻

Great series of drills to help stop my "over the top" swing flaw. I was shocked how well I hit the ball when I moved it back in my stance! My ball speed increased & carry significantly, my club path changed from outside to inside, and I hit some mini-draws & eliminated my normal slice. It is possible to transition over time to moving the ball more forward in my stance?
@alecsiegrist627711 ай бұрын
I know it’s been 8 months since you commented… Moving the ball forward in the stance tends to make your club path go more from out-to-in (fades and slices)

Your videos are brilliant. I am an unusual case. I am a dentist and had to give up the game in 1997 because my arms and hands and back could not take the additional stress of playing golf. I was a seven handicap at the time and it was hearbreaking but I needed to continue to make a living. Now, after close to twenty five years, I am retired and have decided to try and get my game back. It is going pretty well but I do not have the same body that I did twenty five years ago and my muscle memory was a little thin. I also had to learn to put away my MacGrgeor persimmon driver and begin learning to hit one of those frying pans on a stick. Your lessons have been enormously helpful in all regards. I was also a Dental Professor and so I know a bit about teaching things which can be very hard to learn. A great teacher makes things seem much easier than they might seem to the student. You surely do that. I send my gratitude to wherever it is you are. I am in New Hampshire! Cheers, then!

Very good Chris.. I’ve used this. My fix was to try and keep my back or upper torso from turning early. These drills do that. I’ve even closed my stance 45 degrees and out my weight on my front foot, that’s helped as well. Your videos are great. Appreciate what you do… I share info like this to golfers that are struggling at a range I go to a couple of times a week, when weather permits… What we share multiplies, what we withhold diminishes…. Keep up the good work….

I have struggled to correct the over the top swing for years. Some of the difficulty I had derived, I believe from my baseball swing because I am a dead pull hitter. Your videos, not just this one, have done wonders for my golf swing. I have never heard before the points you make here about the position of the ball. Early on in my golf instruction, I was told to keep the ball further forward in my stance (I think because my release was late in the swing.) More recently I have been trying to have the ball further back in my stance, but I tend to let it creep forward as I play a round. I can’t wait to do these drills to see and feel ball flight changes as I play around with ball position. Thanks again.

Hi, great drills! Just one concern: won't the 3rd drill make you lean back and not transfer your weight to the left? I saw some drills for helping weight transfer by moving the ball forward (towards the left), which is what you are advising against in this video. So whilst it could help curing swinging over the top, it could negatively impact on weight transfer (?)

Brilliant Chris, thank you again for sharing another awesome lesson, I’m definitely heading to the range this afternoon. Tried moving the ball around in my stance on the range and it confirmed my over the top problem; when hitting a 7i I had the ball in the back of my stance it didn’t go the same shape as yours (R to L), it went L to R, which I think emphasises my OTT problem! Yet when I put the ball forward (inside left heel as driver) it went pretty straight. I also moved my left hand around the grip a little to close the face for a stronger grip and the ball still went straight! Something has gone to pieces that needs to be back on line before a club match on Sunday 😥 so I certainly need to get busy with the bag on a regular basis.
