I don’t think it’s that, it’s literally spelled out in the scene. Gi-Hun says it directly to his face, that the Recruiter has clear delusions that he is somehow a peer of the elites that run the games, that he’s somehow better than everyone else that he recruits, when the reality is he’s just as much under their boot, by following orders, doing work beneath them. The Recruiter basically follows through the Russian Roulette game as a a retort to Gi-Hun, it’s an act of defiance to suggest he still has honour to follow through with the game despite knowing his fate, he didn’t beg for any changes to the rules, he didn’t grovel for his life (as a lot of contestants do when they know they’ve lost) , he didn’t try to cheat Gi-Hun out of a victory, he tried to elevate himself as being better than those he believes are beneath him. It’s almost like a message of “would the contestants you met in the Squid Game accept their fate if they were in my shoes?” he thinks he’s better than them

I imagine he usually does the bread and lottery routine or something similar to reaffirm to himself the ideology and necessity of his work, maybe to even justify his killing of the players, including his father many years ago.

My main issue with S2 is Gi-Huns’s decision during the overnight scene. That just doesn’t align with his previous motivations. Even as late as Game 1 of his second go-around, he still tried to save everyone quite explicitly. Just one death appears to be one too many and emotionally affects him greatly. I don’t buy it and it was jarring when he just sat back and allowed that to happen, especially to, according to the show, some of the more vulnerable players such as women and older players (the X’s). It would have been more interesting to see them remain in the group formation and see if they could “hold the line” so to speak, with the stronger characters on the outside shielding the weaker characters on the interior. Surely, they would have had sacrifices, but it would have been with the intention of saving them all. It truly would have played into the idea of “defensive” vs “offensive” with the Xs and Os. Just my take.
@chadmendiola983325 күн бұрын
Completely agree. I was surprised when he decided to just watch and let the others die during the bedtime attack and labelled them as necessary sacrifices. I get that he was obsessed in finding these guys and ending the games, but he also wanted to save everyone if he could.

I mostly agree. VERY jarring. I was kinda freaking out when that happened, it just felt so sad that he let all those people die like that. But then again, don't forget that he was influenced by Front Man. Initially, this was not Gi-hun's plan. I think if Front Man didn't say anything, Gi-hun would've just suggested to prepare defenses and protect as many X's as possible.

@Choekaas26 күн бұрын
I fully agree with you on the unwarranted "half a season" criticism. The blame shouldn't be on Squid Game or their creative team. Like you said, they filmed these two seasons back to back. 7 episodes now and the remaining 6 will come out in June. (13 episodes, classical season length). If Netflix decided to wait until, let's say, April 2025 and air all 13 episodes instead, the criticism wouldn't be there. So in a year from now, this criticism will be gone when we view it all as one package. The difference with the "Hank sitting on a toilet"-cliffhanger is that the production had a 4-month break until they continued filming episode 9. I do understand that viewers are irritated about the cliffhanger in episode 7 here, but that's a criticism towards Netflix' release strategy and not the product in itself.

I don’t know what it is with people these days or if it’s just the younger generation. Also I agree how there was no way it was going to top season 1 but it was still a good season! Even great at times. There may have been things about it you didn’t like and that’s totally fair! That raises discussion and debate! That’s what good art does! Season 1 is so revered everyone probably forgot there might have been one thing about it they didn’t like lmao. I'm to sure why a cliffhanger ending would upset people. As you said, that's how TV used to work. My issue is when they intentionally do it in movies now. Nothing can be a self-contained story. It's not even the self-contained ones with a bit of sequel bait at the end. More and more movie franchises today are just stepping stones to the next installment. Tey resolve very little and are intentionally made you you HAVE to see the next installment to get some things answered.

I am not the most familiar with BetterHelp and the allegations, but that brings up a valid argument. Is it okay for influencers to have sponsorship from companies that lie and abuse their customers' data? The influencer might be getting paid, but what are the moral ramifications of that? Someone who isn't aware of such scammy behaviour gets influenced by their favourite influencer and is affected by that choice? That is a rather disheartening scenario. Relating to this situation, if BetterHelp are really lying and taking advantage of their user base, and Chris is still promoting them, then I think it is the correct thing for such comments to be a part of his videos to at least prevent other people from falling into the trap. Also, if the allegations against BetterHelp are true, and Chris is aware of this and is still willingly promoting them, then he is okay with his viewers and fans falling prey to such scams, just because he is getting a fat paycheck to keep mum about it. This is not okay. 100%. I cannot fathom the fact that Chris is unaware of these comments or the allegations. And it is moral to do some background research on the companies that you promote and endorse. With so many comments on his videos, I am sure Chris is heard of such allegations. One might argue that I, the commenter here, is not aware of the allegations, then there is a good chance Chris isn't too. I am not aware of the details of the allegations, but I am aware that there are some allegations against BetterHelp. And this I discovered only through comments on Chris' videos. So, if I were Chris and I found out about some allegations, I would do my best to find out what it is all about first, because I am the one endorsing it, and I am at least partially responsible for the impacts of my said endorsement on the viewers and patrons of my channel. Having commented all this, my next course of action is to find out what the allegations are and how foolproof they are so I can then decide, by myself, if Chris is really being selfish by still going ahead and promoting them, feigning ignorance, or if he knows that the allegations are not really solid and him ditching his cash cow for petty, unfounded arguments is not a wise thing. I am hoping it is the latter, because that will mean that Chris is not a scummy person and one to take advantage of his patrons and supporters. And it will also mean that there is a company out there offering mental support to people who are in need, without having ulterior motives to exploit and abuse those who trust in that system. I would totally understand him continuing promoting BetterHelp if the allegations are not really as dire as it seems and if it is all unfounded. Let's see where my research takes me.

I think the Front Man was implying more that Gi-Hun was no different than him in the sense that he opted to sacrifice people to get his version of justice, even though he went into the game with the goal that more people wouldn’t die. Gi-Hun was blinded by revenge and completely put his morals aside when he let the “Os” murder the defenceless “Xs” just to get a shot to getting to the gamer runners; when in reality they were at a position to end the game the next morning if he just protected them during the night sequence. His actions not only resulted in him losing his best friend, but also resulted in him completely going back on and failing the entire reason he’s still there to begin with.
@marchess799625 күн бұрын
I think the twist in the end will be he thinks he’s ended it and has no money . Goes to his daughter in America to find out she needs an organ to survive. It’s ends with the front man sending organ secretly to save his daughter and also confirming that the games are going on perhaps somewhere else . This brings it full circle that people dying in the games are for the greater good ….if even twisted .

I don’t personally think The Salesman had a “cult-like” mentality. For me, he was shown as a psychotic person who genuinely enjoyed the rush of the games and playing with people, he was a “purist” so he had to go through with his punishment and kill himself because he truly believed it was the only option according to his own beliefs.

My theory for the recruiter is that he simply just snapped! He started as a guard killed alot of people for many years in the games including is own father,that messing him up,and then as a recruiter killed some more. At one point being an angel of death took its toll! That scene where he steps on the bread says it all! Too much psychological damage.

Regarding the "trigger" at 4:30 brought up SPOILERS BELOW _ _ The last 2 bullets of that interaction was essentially a philisophical debate and a test to how devoted each are to their beliefs and also to not cave to the other. In that moment even tho the game was over, it still wasnt complete, and Gi gave the option out but the recruiter was so set on his beliefs he didnt cave and let his balls become 10x as big dying. I dont know if theres more of a explanation needed other than he was a insane person hellbent on showing the world how pathetic is can be. Not all those involved in the games are that and thats the new look we got on the season. The various types of staff that work there. The recruiter just went insane after his father and clearly it was better to keep him out there rather than involved with the games directly. "Why is the Joker insane?" doesnt need a answer. He simply is and that unknown reason why is what makes fear become real.

I was so excited for this show to come back, when it came out, I stayed up waiting for it to release at 2am & binged the entire season in one sitting prior to work lmao. Unfortunately, I thought it was just okay compared to Season 1. I loved the first 3 episodes, all the plotting & build up was cool, & I loved that they showed Gi-Hun had been training. I questioned the same thing you did, why would Gong Yoo's character even agree to the Russian Roulette? He's a greatt Actor though, made me wish we got more of him. What they did with the frontman was my favorite dynamic as well! Also, glad Lee Byung-hun got more screen time, he's a great Actor, I know you mentioned watching "I Saw the Devil" before a few years ago, definitely one of my favorite Korean movies ever. I've probably rewatched it like 5 times already. Lol The cop had one of the most interesting plotlines of season 1, but him & that crew Gi-Hun formed basically did nothing all season. Gi-Hun's plan at the end was such a poor plan as well, led a lot of men into their deaths. As I said, it wasn't as good as Season 1, but still solid enough. I'm excited for the final season!

I think the front man kinda answered that “lust for games” question you asked stuckman. He says “you had fun playing the hero?” the main character is kinda addicted to playing the hero like he was addicted to gambling. It’s kinda the same instead of gambling money he’s gambling people’s lives with his “heroics”. Which is honestly full circle, and I think in season 3 he will realize that and maybe will become the front man.

The only thing I didn't like about this season was the level of stupidity or naivety that some characters displayed, which suited the secrecy of the games. It took me out of the immersion of the series several times. That the policeman didn't suspect the person who rescued him, that the one who was saved from Russian roulette probably confessed drunk that Gi-hun was wearing a tracker, that Gi-hun didn't realize that Il-nam and the new leader were both player 001, that the one who saw the fisherman dismantling the drone didn't suspect and didn't notify the others immediately, etc.

I absolutely loved this season just as much as the first season. Only slight nitpick I can criticize the film for is Episode 2. It felt like it grinded the “seeking mysterious man” plot point a little too long. Which has caused some people to either quick watching or claim that the show is boring. Once I reached episode 3, I found it super entertaining and I was completely sucked in. To the point that I binged episodes 3-7. It still had the fun the original season had, while injecting some interesting premises. I think the character work is what really stands out this season. The first season had such stock one note characters that it felt a little too straight forward. This season has actually given most characters, even the side ones, just enough to be complex or show different emotion. It honestly feels like the “empire strikes back” segment of the story, which also explains the very heavy cliffhanger.

I feel like I'm crazy for thinking it, but I think season 2 might be *better* than the first. I hated the way season one ended, actually--I thought some of those final twists with the host got in the way of the show's heart. And I definitely thought that the show should *stop* with season one, that it didn't need the "I'll take on the games" type of ending. I thought season 2 would be bad. And yet, when this aired, I couldn't look away from this season at all. I loved it so much. So, so, so good. It fully surprised me; and Gi-Hun and the Front Man made for an intensely exciting watch.
