We need more of this! The love, joy, peace, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control displayed by all three of these men was exemplary. I grew up in a charismatic church with a weak foundation, so when my faith was challenged in college it crumbled and I became agnostic/atheist. Praise God for the men in my life who were willing to have reasoned conversations with me when I was a disagreeable atheist. All the interruptions really boil down to an inability to engage with the ideas, but these men did a great job of maintaining focus. Any ‘moral atheist’ willing to wrestle with the answer Doug provides 1:21:04 will not be able to maintain this position, you will either abandon morality or atheism.

There were slave owners who treated their “slaves” like family. In a time when negros couldn’t live independently in society they gave them their own homes on the family estate, had them attend family worship, and even reunited family members by buying for example a husband from another slave owner so that they could live as husband and wife. Spared no expense on doctors for them if they needed it. These were Christian people who lived out the Bible’s teachings of do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Many people chose to continue living with the same people who owned them after they were emancipated because they were treated so well and the quality of their lives was better where they were than on their own in society at that time.
