Funny. My band once released a flyer advertising one of our shows that included a vintage picture of a lady circus performer swallowing a sword, and we got complaints from angry feminists saying it was "objectifying/denigrating women". 🙄 I think the biggest problem is people not being able to keep their minds out of the gutter and appreciate sword swallowing as a cool stunt that has nothing to do with sex.

I graduated from two seminaries (Christian schools). At one of them, a respected leader told us that the hotels in any given area get their best profits from the porn movies their customer buy when there is a big pastors conference in town. There’s a lot of unhealthy sexual repression in the church. So, who are for sword swallowing and who are against? I’m afraid that was a question before this conference began. Also, men’s conferences are a way to try to reconcile Rambo/commando type masculinity with the meekness and poorness in spirit the New Testament calls for. It’s a contradiction or a “mystery” the church lives with. Men shouting at each other about who is right, that’s a men’s conference. Celebration of soldiers and sports stars and not professional theologians, that’s a men’s conference.
