Concluding thoughts: Surah 10 - what is the purpose of life in Islam? - what are you thoughts on the "test of imitability"? Surah 11 - why do you think the Quran is the word of God? Surah 12 - what is your biggest takeaway from the story of Joseph?

(1) Purpose of life in Islam is encapsulated in 51 : 56: "I did not create jinn (spirits) and humans except to worship Me." (2) the inimitability of the Qur'an is that no-one can write or has written like it unless they copy elements. It's a matter of style, meaning and grammar which are unmatchable - in essence only two out of three can be matched at any one time. All 16 styles of Arabic poetry and all types of prose are different to the Arabic of the Qur'an despite employing mostly the same words. The claim the inimitability test is subjective is false and a common non-Muslim prejudice without basis - the rules of grammar, rhetorical style and coherent meaning are clear to even lay Arabic speakers which facilitates the distinction of Qur'anic Arabic from non-Qur'anic Arabic literature. I have personally witnessed English speaking Muslims who learnt Arabic fluently and without being told beforehand could easily distinguish the recitation of the Qur'an from the Bible (which Christians have managed to copy in inferior form over recent decades). For the non-Arabic speaker it is entirely possible to comprehend its power without knowing the language simply on the basis of its powerful, logical arguments and superior information which dissects one's humanity in such a profound way. The Qur'an is also unedited so it would be quite impossible for any human to compose error/contradiction free and then recite to an audience accordingly. Its content clearly evidences anticipation of the future accurately - including, for example, preparing the Muslim community's move to Medina, the victory over their adversaries in Mecca etc as well as other aspects concerning reality like Edwin Hubble's observation of an expanding universe, big bang and destruction of the earth etc. Its moral authority is unmatched, including by the Bible, anticipating things like the UN Charter, anti-slavery, institution of proper legal procedures etc, etc. There is no literature even remotely like it, certainly not the Bible which is very inferior and amounts to a sort of historical account of the prophets rather than God speaking directly to the reader voicing His expectations for him or her. The Qur'an also corrects aspects of the biblical narrative despite the Prophet and his people being uneducated and mostly illiterate, for example, it accurately points out Abraham was not Jewish, that the Egyptian leader at the time of Joseph was a king not a Pharaoh and so on. It contains absolutely convincing truths throughout, for example, when the Jews of Medina were asked whether the Prophet was authentic they asked him to recount the story of Joseph which was not known to anyone in the community except the Jews. Chapter Yusuf provided a full and accurate account which the Jews could find no fault with. To better understand the significance of the Arabic meaning to a non-Arabic speaker you need to consult the brand new Project Illumine commentary available from the Usuli Institute's KZbin channel. @16:45 the Arabic language was used to record God's final testament to mankind because the people it was revealed to were living in such a remote and inhospitable location which allowed them to avoid outside interference from the great powers (the Roman and Persian empires). It was revealed to a people whose language skills were unmatched, particularly their ability to memorise huge tracts of poetry. By so doing God revealed his words to a people who would be, unlike the people to whom the Bible was revealed, fit for the task of the preservation of the revelation (the Qur'an). Finally, the Arabic language has features about it which enabled the message to be composed in a form which could not be matched by people proficient in the language (ensuring its inimitable character). Dax doesn't have access to the language of Jesus (Aramaic) nor the other Old Testament prophets (Hebrew) so banging on about not having access to the language of the Qur'an is nonsense and hypocritical. Arabic is a living language, Aramaic and Old Testament Hebrew are not (the pronunciation of the word "God" (Yahweh) in the Hebrew original is not known and remains highly contestable). @18:44 Hud is a chapter about the prophets of old dissenting against the corrupt ways of the privileged elite and the misrule of their people turning them away from moral/ethical standards required by God throughout the ages. Dax is covering these chapters in a highly superficial way by not consulting the modern exegetical literature (see above). This chapter demonstrates another aspect of the Qur'an, its coherent message and truth about the world - privileged elites without checks and balances leading people into autocratic despotism, iniquity and corruption. The point about Hud is that he was an Arabian prophet and so was familiar to the Arab pagans at the time the Qur'an was revealed. There is historical evidence for his existence. However, the chapter doesn't just deal with Hud but with other prophets, like Noah, who are well known and the subject of the Bible. Each faced similar challenges, hence the coherency of the chapter so it doesn't matter if Hud is not mentioned in the Bible his moral example mirroring that of the other biblical prophets is all that counts. A person who can't appreciate that must be morally blind. @21:53 the key to chapter Yusuf is its last verse, Ayah #111: (In their stories is a lesson for those who possess intelligence. This is not a fabricated tale, but a confirmation of what came before it, and a detailed explanation of all things, and guidance, and mercy for people who believe) which is significantly different from the story in the Old Testament because of the lack of a moral lesson there. The Qur'an is indicating to the Prophet to expect similar challenges to his prophetic mission from his own community, tested to the point of near despair. And that God, however, is in complete control of destiny such that those who maintain their moral/ethical compass throughout will eventually emerge victorious.

An interesting take away from the story of Joseph PBUH to me personally, is that his family all prostrated (bowed down) to him. They "worshipped" him but not in the same fashion as God Almighty, not really *Worship* but obedience, submission. From an Islamic perspective, we believe that such an action was permissible for the followers of previous prophets, but ever since Christians misunderstood that as a sign of the divinity of Jesus PBUH, it became forbidden for us to bow down to humans.

The Quran is the word of God because the language is very beautiful for people who understand Arabic, and there are scientific proofs and prophecies of exact events in the Quran. You can watch Islamic scholars who talk about that, this is only a small part that I can give : 1. The Strait of Gibraltar which connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. (Surah ar-Rahman : 19-20) 2. Fire under the sea (surah at-Tur : 6) 3. Solar system orbit (surah al-Anbiya : 33) 4. The BigBang Theory (surah al-Anbiya : 30) 5. Rainwater process (surah ar-Rum : 48-49) 6. River on the seabed (surah al-Furqan : 53) 7. Human fingerprints (surah al-Qiyamah : 3) 8. The corpses of the Pharaohs who lived at the time of Moses are still intact (surah Yunus : 92) 9. The victory of the Muslims at that time was like the conquest of Mecca, where this verse came down when Muslims were driven out and weak (surah 48:28) 10. The victory of the Romans who had been pushed and lost several times by the Persians (surah 30: 1-7) etc...

I really enjoyed your videos so far. I know you are reading the Quran from an academic standpoint with a christian lens, however I pray to Allah that he opens your heart to the truth of the message as you read through the book. I'm in no way a scholar but I will try to answer some of your questions as best I can from my very limited knowledge, hopefully with your academic approach in mind. 1. Purpose of life - You got the answer pretty close. The complete answer comes in 2 parts: "To recognize the One true creator (absolute monotheism)" and "to worship him alone". Here by definition, "One true creator" refers to God's attributes - his Unity, his Oneness, his Sovereignty over all of creation along with the 99 attributes mentioned in the Quran. For example: 'Ar-Rahman' loosely translated means the most gracious. Here, Allah's grace cannot be compared to any human version of grace, for it is beyond the scope of human capacity or understanding. Same with all the other attributes, which can by no means be compared to a human version of the attribute. As for his Unity (very important concept in Islam - "Tawheed"), I would refer you to surah Ikhlas (chapter 112) which is for all intents and purposes a definition of the Oneness of Allah. "To worship him alone" means obviously to worship only Allah and NOT any of his creation, and not to enjoin partners to him. The term 'worship' simply means to do what Allah has commanded us to do and to refrain from what he has forbidden for us. 2. The test of inimitability - A little background: The miracles of all the previous prophets were for the people of the time of each of those prophets, to prove their prophethood. Those miracles cannot objectively be proven or disproven absolutely in the present day. However, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was sent as the final messenger for all the people till the day of Judgement. Hence a miracle which can be proven over time has been left to us by Allah's infinite wisdom. That is the Holy Quran. The test of inimitability is one way of proving the miracle. There are ofcors plenty of other evidences in the Quran to prove its authenticity. Arabs in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), despite being mostly UNLETTERED were infact highly EDUCATED. Oral traditions, poetry, rhetoric, debate and speech were at the very heart of arabic culture. Even wars were declared, won and lost on the podium of poetry and debate. The celebrities of the time were their greatest orators. This challenge in the Quran was given to the best of these poets and orators in all of arabia. There are infact specific criteria regarding this challenge which was obvious to the arabic poets of the time. The Quran itself is written in a very unusual way which does not fit any genre of arabic poetry. Basically for you to even understand the test you have to atleast know the arabic language. When the poets of the time came to meet the challenge, they all failed. And 1400 years later, one has yet to succeed. Keep in mind there are and always have been a sizeable non-muslim arab population in the world, so the challenge will never be biased. All challengers over time came to only 2 conclusions - either the Quran is magic, or from Allah. I recommend you see the following video where the MUSLIM host is giving a simplified explanation to an ARAB CHRISTIAN of the intricacies of the style of the Quran to get a better understanding of this test. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pF7Jnal8oNmasLc As for why the Quran was revealed in arabic, simply because any other language would not be able to fully grasp the meaning in such a small book. Each word in the Quran when translated would actually take entire paragraphs to properly explain their meaning. See this video for a good explanation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaDIXmmsg76FecU 3. Quran the word of Allah - Several reasons. The prophecies made which came true after their revelation (The story of Abu Lahab, the power balance between the persian nd roman empires, the rapid spread of Islam and many more). The fact that the Quran has been preserved as promised by Allah in the Quran itself (manuscripts dating back to the time of the Prophet exist). The scientific facts stated in the Quran, alot of which were discovered to be true only in the last century. The ease of learning the Quran itself, also promised. The fact that we have detailed histories and biographies of all the people surrounding the Prophet, giving more legitimacy from an historical standpoint. 4. Pretty much the same takeaway as yours. Also one of my favorite stories. Allah says in the Quran 94:5 "So, surely with hardship comes ease." Very inspiring for me and proven to be true throughout my life so far. Allah knows best.

@@daxvanderwal Hi brother Dax, I hope you see this. Love the videos btw and thanks for sharing. The inimitability of the Quran is due to its unique style, eloquence, and depth of meaning. Its verses are rich in imagery, metaphor, and rhetorical devices, and its language is clear, concise, and powerful. Additionally, the Quran contains a wealth of scientific and historical knowledge that was unknown at the time of its revelation. The context when the quran was revealed, the Arabs were extremely proud of the language and used to refer to non Arabic speakers as Ajam(mute). The poets were seen as the most important and influential members in a society of mostly illiterate people. A good poet could bring shame to your clan for centuries with one powerful poem. When they heard the Quran however is was completely unique, it completely descoped the Arabic language and does not fit in any category of Arabic grammar or poetry. As a non Arabic speaker in is hard to appreciate. However this is not a subjective test. It is completely objective because of the reasons I mentioned. No one has been able to do it till today for the past 1400 years. Further more any style of writing or art can be replicated. Whether from geniuses such as Shakespeare, Picasso, Beethoven it can be copied and use the same style for an original piece. That is why there are forgeries and so on. But the Quran is unique and can never be replicated, that is why it is an objective test. I hope this makes sense. There are scholars that have large volumes of works on this topic who can explain it way better than I have

As far as the test of inimitablity goes: it applies only to Arabic speakers, however it isn't a test of "beauty". The Qur'an's mastery of the Arabic language is absolutely unparalleled, it bends and twists the grammar to its absolute limits, using expressions and grammatical structures that only "theoretically" exist. It sometimes says something that on the surface level appears to be saying something, but is actually saying the exact opposite when you take the grammatical context into consideration. Every single Surah contains a "linguistic miracle" of using a word in an altogether new way, which was never done before. Furthermore, the Qur'an was revealed over 23 years by an illiterate man, and yet many of its longest chapters have an innate "ring structure". There's a video on YT discussing this, "The ring structure of the Qur'an" or something of the sort. The pagans brought the 5 greatest poets of their day to contest the Qur'an and they all gave up, saying that his words couldn't be said by a man. "He must be practicing sorcery" they said. So regarding objective criteria: - absolute mastery of the language - using words and expressions that only theoretically existed before - appearing to say something but saying the opposite - eloquence and beauty - innate structure - unclassifiable as any of the 16 types of Arabic poetry, yet still rhymes - originality (not copying the Qur'an in its style and linguistics) - consistency (must uphold those standards throughout) - lack of flaws and contradictions - ease of memorization - (perhaps?) The ability to exorcise demons like the Qur'an Note: The OT was in Hebrew, and Jesus himself spoke Aramaic. Any and all revelation was spoken in a language. There never was a universal, all-language revelation. The difference is, that the Qur'an is so beyond any other Arabic works that it boasts about its superiority, using it as *one of* the signs that it's from God Himself.

Appreciate your efforts as always. I've been waiting for this episode. The imitability test is much more complicated than making some verse in Arabic. We all know that the Quran was revealed piece by piece in a period of 23 years, and the verse revealed are due to an event that causes it. It is not something that the prophet came up with over night and recited it the following day to the companions. Not at all. Secondly, despite the long period of the revelation (23 years), the Quran has zero contradictions. Moreover, it was revealed to an illiterate man, and was a linguistic miracle that surpassed all poetry at that time, or any time to be honest. Add up to the challenge, it has many prophecies that talks about the future, science, history, and correcting the misconceptions of other religions. All that must be dependent on the circumstances and the questions that people asked the prophet. That is why it is not imitable.

Do you know the famous companion Abu- Hurira( one of the best Hadith narrators with almost 600 Hadith in Bukhari and Muslim alone). His clan( Sakher) was the elite in Arabic poetry, and their chief was Tofile ibn omar. When he approached Mecca, the pagan worshippers approached him and said ( the is a person, i.e Mohammed,who recites poetry that is far beyond our reach, go see if you can beat him). Surah Yusuf might be my favorite Surah as well. My biggest takeaway of the Surah? It's how to deal with temptations and as you said be patient. The way the words are recited in this Surah in Arabic are beautiful too. It's poetic and uses unique phrases found only in it... It's also one continues story, and as a writer I marvel at the many "modern" storytelling techniques are already present in this Surah. "The dramatic Irony," the "Circular narrative," even using the "Mentor Archetype" as the protagonist, it's just too beautiful.

1. The idolaters did not ask "what are the criteria to be met to create a chapter" they simply retracted when they were the masters of the Arabic language. why? 2. the linguistic challenge is far from being the only test of falsification of the Quran. There is also the scientific test, the historical test, the philosophical test. and even if the interlocutor does not speak Arabic he can always look into the other aspects of the book Like: a. "Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were ˹once˺ one mass then We split them apart?1 And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?" 21:30 b. The name of the priest HAMAN in the story of Moses or the name of the "King and not pharaoh as the bible says" in the story of Josef which are coroborated by archeology c. And the multitude of philosophical arguments on the prophecy the uniqueness of god or the nature of the human being. 3. the jews of Medina threatened their "pagan arab" enemies by telling them" A prophet will soon appear and you will be exterminated like AAD and ERAM who are two Arab peoples. The prophet sent to AAD is HOUD and the Jews knew him. Their words are recorded in the quran 2:89

I understand your views on the test of imitability. Im not an arabic speaker as well, so i couldnt really understand what sets the Quran apart from other texts. However, other arabic speaking intellectuals, academics and poets analyized the Quran. They have come to an conclusion that the Quran is a unique literature. It contains truths, tells stories, gives descriptions, gives judicative guidelines, rules morality, predicts the future, gives wisdom and much more and all of it while still remaining a poetic and eloquent sound and unique structure, which makes it easy for humans to be memorized. And all of that while verses were revealed at different moments about different events ,so that it could not possibly have been planned by the prophet, who in addition to that was an illiterate. So after those academics and poets analyzing the Quran it was given a whole new category of literature because in didn't fit in any existing category and was unique; different from poetry and prose. Also it seems that the Quran being in arabic limits other people from accessing it. But we have to keep in mind that arabic is by far the richest language in the world. If God wants to communicate direct guidance to us , it would make sense that He would choose a language that allows very precise and distinct phrases and meanings. Of course we can't know for sure why Allah chose arabic, unless it would have been revealed by Him. But we can try to make sense of it.

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to explain what your experience has been like. As far as the "illiterate" point I see people making that point a lot so let me ask some clarification on it - being illiterate doesn't mean he was uneducated right? Are you just saying him being illiterate would have made it harder for a man like this to come up with it?
@QuinnTheTailor
@QuinnTheTailor Жыл бұрын
@@daxvanderwal Yes, argueably i would say that him being illiterate would make it magnitudes harder. As he has no writing or reading abilities and hence can't structurally "plan" and coordinate these verses. Literate and schooled poets even take days or weeks to write one poem, authors of books even months or years to finish a chapter because they are constantly contemplating, re-arranging, erasing and changing words and verses. Before they release the finished book/poem, they have dozens or hundreds of pages or verses that haven't made it into the final version. As an iliterate man who hadn't had lyrical education, didn't attend school, wasn't able to read or study about it nor was able to edit the verses or chapters because he couldn't write it down and think about changes or mistakes etc , all his verses had to be spot on from the first time they have been revealed. All this while maintaining a poetical structure and rhythmic but also truth. Most poems are rhythmic, structured and so on, because the author writes it down and can just choose and change words and make up the story as he goes 'cause it doesn't have to adhere to reality or the truth, nor does it have to be free of contradictions. Contradictions are sometimes even intentionally used as rhetorical elements in poems for different means. But not so in the Quran, because contradictions would create questions about the truthfulness of its message. It would exceed the capabilities of a human to construct a book like the Quran. A common view is that God intentionally chose to reveal the Quran to an illiterate, so that people who don't acknowledge that its humanly not possible to write it, could not accuse him of constructing it. To give you another thing. Mohammed was given the prophethood at the age of 40, until then he wasn't known to tell poems, stories and sorts. So when he started to recite the Quran one day, the locals and poets were shocked and surprised that Mohammed was suddenly reciting such eloquent and poetic words, which they never heard before. I put "poems" in quotation marks, cause the Quran isn't technically seen as a poem. I hope i remembered things correctly and didn't write something wrong.
@hmdch

@@QuinnTheTailor I agree with everything you said. One thing I would like to add to this is that Mohammad (PBUH) was known to be the truthful and honest one among the pagan Arab community in Mecca way before he ever became a prophet. He wasn't ever known to lie or spin stories even in pre-Islamic and non-Muslim accounts. So from everything we know about him, it's very unlikely he would've copied from the Bible and lied about it.

The inimitability test can apply in a broad sense. The miracle of the Quran put plainly is word choice. If the Quran is from God, then every single word can be scrutinized to the highest degree. Arabic has 12.3 million words, which means that there are thousands of alternate sentence structures where a synonym could have been used in place of what is already there or a sentence could be written a different way. The miracle is that there isn't a single place where any word could be replaced that would make the text better in terms of clarity, rhythm, meaning, or accuracy and no other book could compete with such a standard. If anyone could point out a single word that could be changed to make the text better, the test would be passed, yet despite the best effort of many, it hasn't been done. The arab speaker will appreciate this the most no doubt, but every person can see it to some extent. You will see certain scientific accuracies as you read like: "We sent from the heavens iron" in surah hadid as an example. The ancient scholars were confused on why the word "sent down" was used, but today we know it is more accurate to say that because iron originated in space and came down through meteorites. In this way you will find that no verse of the Quran lacks in any way, in its accuracy and truth despite all the advancement we see today. When you combine this with the eloquence, style, and even the numerical miracles of the Quran's writing it becomes undeniable that it must be from God. Hope that helps

Hey! Fair question. In the future I would love to do a Bible vs Quran series talking about how we can "test" each one, I think that would be a lot of fun. Overall I think the tests are similar - prophecy in the OT and the NT, clear predictions about the future that came to fruition are a huge test and have convinced me that the Bible is more than just human words. I would also say the teaching and truth claims in general show insight into the universe that could only come from a divine author. The Bible explains reality in a way that is consistent with how I experience it. But the biggest reason is Jesus. I think Jesus is God in the flesh and he affirmed the OT and the NT comes from those who followed Jesus - so I'm going to follow the scriptures that he clearly affirmed.

Hello Dax, One thing to note about why Arabic is the chosen language for the final revelation from God. The Arabic language has a vocabulary of over 12 MILLION words, so the precision of language is immense and the depth of meaning is incredible. Compare that to the English vocabulary with about 170,000 in the English dictionary. To learn Arabic is a priceless treasure, may God grant us such knowledge. Something else you said about reading a translation of the Quran, the main essence of the Quran can be found in the translation but hardly any of the beauty. The fact that you admit even the translation is beautiful, then you can only imagine how much more beautiful it reads in the original language. Also, are you even reading Biblical scripture in the original language? One of the most confusing aspects of Christianity and Christians is the refusal to learn Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic in order to know their religion better and with greater depth. In Islam, there is an expectation to learn Arabic to a certain degree in order to pray in the most authentic way possible in regards to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The test of imitability is certainly a strong one as Arabia has had some of the greatest poets ever and in 1400 years none of them have come close to the powerful eloquence of the Quran.

Thanks for leaving this message! As far as Arabic being the chosen language because of the depth, I actually think it can be argued that Arabic is the worst language for revelation. It can't easily be translated and understood by people in other languages, showing how limited this revelation would be (unless Allah doesn't want any non-arabic speakers to know him for some reason). But the Bible can be translated and understood in several languages, making it more accessible to the world. I read an english translation of the Bible but I constantly study the original languages to make sure I'm understanding verses correctly. This is how languages work, translations can communicate the meaning well and if we are confused we can look into the original languages.

@@daxvanderwal Interesting notion considering almost all of Ancient Greek and Roman literature that led to the Euro-Christian enlightenment and is still extensively studied today only survived because it was translated into Arabic during the Abbasid Caliphate and then translated back into Latin/Greek. This strongly contradicts your claim that Arabic is the worst language since it can't be translated easily. Europe and Christianity would not be what they are today without preservation through Arabic translation of much of the literature that inspired the Renaissance and Enlightenment! God chose Arabic because the language is deep and rich with incredible nuance, making translations of the true message into less complex languages still incredibly insightful and impactful. Like, when it comes to their laws i guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Idk. And secondly, when you said that we are separated from God and should be reconnected with Him by prayer and then in paradise? Something like that... It reminds me of what I heard in the church I currently attend. They say like that we people were connected with God in paradise/garden of Eden at the beginning but then this unity broke because of sin, then in Genesis 6:3 it should confirm even more. And they say that God is sending prophets to people and tries already 6000 years to bring people back and book of revelation should be the final stage of this work. 🙈 What do you think about it? I'm just thinking like the beginning of creation could give us some answers, like when it comes to purpose/reason of our life here. But maybe when you get to reading about Adam and Eve in the Quran more, then get back to it.

During the time of Prophet Muhammad, the Arabic language was at its peak of eloquence. So, for Arab pagans the challenge was to bring something like Quran which could match it's eloquence and style. But they couldn't as the Quran is in a unique style of ring composition, it has no formal beginning and ending like usual books,..and it was not revealed in a regular manner. But today, it's the age of science and technology, and there are so many verses in Quran which speak about science and the things which are recently discovered e.g the orbit of sun. To imitate the Quran today would mean to bring a Surah, which has beauty, ring composition, eloquence, surprising prophecies etc.

There's an atheist revert named Jeffrey Lang who I think summarises the immitability test of the Quran. Basically, he once had a Quran being gifted to him, and started reading it and was fascinated by its narrative and curious and precise word choice. He thought its logic was sound, and it was presenting a very strong point of view of life, of reality, God and etc... That's not the main point, however. When he visited a muslim friend, he found him listening to a "song" with no other instruments, with a rhythm that's very tough to pull at all in poetry, a melody that's haunting and beautiful as he describes it, and asked his friend what was he listening to, and he told him that that was the Quran. That was when he realized that perhaps this was the word of God. How can something that seems so intentional with its word choice, so strong in its linguistic structure, be so rhythmic, he asked. And to me, that's exactly it. When you're writing a poem or a song, sometimes accuracy isn't all you care about, since it must rhyme and satisfy a certain rhythm. Meaning is important, and that's exactly what makes poetry a challenging endeavor. The Quran's rhythmic style is truly superb. Very fluid and flows into one another. I can literally memorize six pages of it in a span of half an hour, just because of how it naturally flows into itself, and beautifully resonates. Yet, to be able to achieve this, while abholding meaning and very specific word choices and meanings, (not to mention the grammatical accuracy of it, which when it comes to arabic, is very hard to not bypass one or two of for the sake of rhythm), you would expect the meanings of it to be a mumble jumble. That's why people usually don't translate poetry. Because it loses its meaning and power without constantly hearing the rhythm, which kinds of distract you. However, when I read the Quran, it feels like the author is simply just speaking, if you know what i mean. Like, it doesn't have that feeling of forceful terminologies and sentence structure that poetry usually have. So it feels like the author's matter of speech is simply incredible poetry and melody. That the author simply speaks music, nothing else. I think that's why I believe it's from God, and why non of the disbelivers even attempted to immitate the Quran, since they know they would fail. I think a great testimony for its superb-ness is how they habitually call it magic, and they call the prophet a magician, and those people were poets! When you're being called a magician for simply speaking, know that you're not simply speaking. Side note: There is a bookby an early arabic muslim scholar, called the signs of miracles, referring to the Quran. The book has mo reference to the Quran at all, but is a study of the arabic language, its grammer and "the science of meaning", or ilm alma'anii. He talks about how no two sentences have the same meaning, sentence structure and how it communicates meaning, and says that without this, the miraculous nature of the Quran is only superficial. He basically explains why if the Quran lacked rhythm and melody all together, its simply linguistically immitable. May God guide us all to his path.

About the test of inimitability, it has a criteria but figuring out the criteria is already part of the test. think about this way: if you can't recognize the eloquence and complexity of something you won't be able understand it. like art or music some people can appreciate details that most people won't even notice. this test was given to the best poets of that time, the only thing that made them stick out as a society is their fluency and comprehension of the Arabic language. all of them at the time understood the test at that time because of their capacities and still failed to do it. There is a good book explains this criteria its in arabic and was recommended on another channel: Arab Christian Introduced To The Challenge Of The Quran! Muhammed Ali Watch the first 6 mins he talks about this. Also the book he mentions is this: المعجزة إعادة قراءة الإعجاز اللغوي في القرآن الكريم Miracle Re-reading of the linguistic miracle in the Holy Quran i don't know if there is a translation of this book or not.

For the test of imitability as an Arab myself: The way the Quran is constructed is using Arabic letters, bringing grammatical constructs that which was never used before and use them while writing it. Bring words that wasn’t known before but still would be understood when using them. Use old words and use them in new ways that were never used before and all of that in every chapter in the highest eloquent matter like no one can use it in any better form. So it’s a very objective criteria which has been there for 14 centuries. But probably the non Arabs wouldn’t understand as the language itself is very rich( which is why it came in Arabic like search the different names for camels or friend or love in Arabic and you would understand) and the Quran came to challenge that. The Arab christians actually keep trying to challenge it but every time it’s a mockery scene, the best they have done is plagiarism from the quran itself.

Quran was revealed in 23 years, never edited or proof read, even the surahs were not revealed together, some verse at some time and others later based on the events and situations . But when the verses were combined into surah , you see harmony, order, eloquence and poetic form of literature, which covers a broad range of topic synced in total harmony and without any contradictions. the order of Quranic verses and the subject matter is a big science in Islam, scholars have dedicated their lives on it because its unlike any other book ever produced.

Another imitability challenge, also technical: For this you should get familiarized with Arabic abjad values where each letter has a unique value. Produce a Chapter like chapter-111, which has 5 verses, 23 words, and 81 letters. Letters in each verse count as 15,19,15,17,15. This chapter has used only 21 unique letters from the alphabet. Notice all are odd numbers, so the challenge is about odd/even numbers. Make a chapter like this - just spoken once, which is instant and meaningful. Now, apply the abjad values to each word. Get the total abjad value of odd words (1st, 3rd etc.) - e.g. A123 Get the total abjad value of even words (2nd,4th, and so on) - e.g. B123 Now apply the abjad value to each letter in the chapter. Get the total abjad value of odd letters (1st, 3rd letters) - e.g. X123 Get the total abjad value of even letters (2nd,4th and so on) - e.g. Y123 Make sure you get this: A123 = X123, and B123 = Y123

As others have pointed out, beauty is not the point of the challenge. What makes the Quran a miracle is that it’s entirely a unique form of speech that you cannot find in any other literary work or poem in Arabic, or any other language for that matter. All traditional poems adhere to a clear poetic meter, foot, and rhythm, and if they rhyme, they are always limited by the amount of words, and the types of words they can use to maintain the flow of their poems. On the other hand, the Quran does not adhere to any poetic meter, feet, or rhythm, nor can it be identified through these means. Rather, it had its own rhythm which it is able to produce through masterful syntax and smooth arrangement of words, thus creating cadence, assonance, alliteration, etc. The Quran is also filled with literary devices such as, analogy, antiphrasis, antithesis, asydenton, chiasmus, homonymy, epizeuxis, hyperboles, isocolons, metaphors, palindromes, metonymy, polyptoton, puns, and synecdoche to name a few, as well as rhyme. All of these literary devices are employed in every single verse in the Quran. They are so frequent, even when it narrates stories and details laws, that it becomes impossible for a human mind to meaningfully imitate, especially considering the fact that all pre-Islamic Arabic poetry, or any poetry for that matter, does not even come close in their use of literary devices. Poems are also often vague and unclear, and use synonyms/different words just to create rhyme/rhythm, but the Quran by contrast, is very clear and does not contain such forced rhyme/rhythm. I’ll give you one example from a single verse from the Quran: ‎ذِكْرُ رَحْمَتِ رَبِّكَ عَبْدَهُۥ زَكَرِيَّآ “a reminder of your Lord’s mercy to His servant Zachariah,” [Quran 19:2] There is so much going in this small verse that you can NEVER pick up through the translations. First we read the word ذكر (T͟Hikr), which means “Remember/Mention”, the phrase رَحْمَتِ رَبِّكَ contains alliteration because the letter “r” is repeated in the two words, then we get to the name زَكَرِيَّآ (Zachariah). This name in Hebrew is a combination of the word, זכר (“Zakr”) “remember”/“mention”, and “יה” (“Yah”). The word זכר (Zakr”) in Hebrew is cognate to the Arabic ذكر (“Thikr”), they both mean “remember/mention”. So essentially, there’s a wordplay in this word that only someone who understands both Hebrew and Arabic will be able to catch. The Quran is basically saying “Remember/mention your Lord’s mercy to His servant Remember/mention Yah”. And better yet, throughout the surah, the same rhyme scheme starting with the name “Zachariah” is used throughout. The Quran is filled with these types of wordplays and literary devices. Even when a verse from the Quran appears normal by all means on the surface, it always contains deeper meanings that cannot always be perceived. This is why the Quran cannot successfully be imitated, and never has been. The top poets of Arabia at the time of Muhammad [SAW] couldn’t compete nor explain it, and hence had to resort to calling it “sorcery” or an “incantation” from other lands, even though objectively, that doesn’t make any sense. *”Say, ‘If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.’”* (Quran 17:88) Hope you’re sincere in seeking truth.

4th comment The story of Joseph has a miracle as well in the Qur'an, where the bible claims Joseph went to the pharaoh of Egypt but the Qur'an says king of Egypt, the Qur'an mentions Pharaoh at the time of mosas. Historically, Egypt referred to the palace as the pharaoh and the king lived inside. In the new kingdom period the word pharaoh referred to the ruler. So the Qur'an referred to the king in the time of Joseph around the old kingdom time when isreal was only 12 people basically. And referred to the pharaoh later at the time of moses when isreal was a nation in the new kingdom of Egypt. A historical accuracy not in the bible, that makes me believe, the Qur'an was not copied from the bible, but god just literally said what happened at the time.

What makes me myself to believe in Quran strongly brother Dax is that(I’m an average Muslim btw, but I do believe in my religion strongly Alhamdulilah), anyway what makes me strongly believe is that the signs in the Quran, cause if I was there before Mohammed(SAW) and I found somebody says “I’m prophet”, I would tell him show me a miracle, but we can find miracles in Quran, like science facts before it has been even discovered, and like translating one of the heroghlefic(one of Egyptian old way of writing*Pharoahs*) sentences, and some other miracles yk, that’s why I believe in it strongly

Your pronunciation is getting better fr, MashAllah I just wanna add something, when one of the companions asked the prophet Mohammed(SAW) about is there a prophets that we[as people who are not prophets] never heard about, the prophet Mohammed(SAW) said yes there is prophets we have never heard about, the hadith is: And it came in the hadith of Abu Dharr with Abu Hatim bin Hibban and others that he asked the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, about the messengers and about the prophets, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: The prophets are one hundred and twenty-four thousand and the messengers are three hundred and thirteen, and in the narration of Abu Umamah: three hundred and fifteen, but they are two hadiths They are weak according to scholars, and they have evidence, but they are also weak hadiths, but all the scholars agreed that there’s prophets and messengers that are not mentioned in Quran, bible or Torah, and there’s also prophets who are mentioned in Quran and not mentioned in the Bible and Torah, and the same with the Bible and Torah. And Ibn Kathir and Ibn Ishaq mentioned two of the prophets of the Children of Israel who were not mentioned in the Qur’an, which are Armeia and shai’ya, and they are from the prophets that God SWT told them that Jesus and Mohammed peace and blessings be upon them will come

8:05 regarding hadith, be careful. Most hadiths are false and exaggerated. Hadith is very controversial in islam, and major islamic factions are split on its face value. The Quran never mandates the hadith as a tenet of islam (shahada) testimony of faith. So this is a sensitive area that I think you could critique as: ”this sounds sus, surely must be false” and you certainly could question it since it's not the word of God. It doesn't matter if ”scholars” or ”sheikhs” or ”imams” ”verified” its authenticity, they aren't prophets and they could have been under threat in their time to twist it for the ruler's desires or even their own desire, such as control

What is the purpose of life? A very good question that was first introduced in verse 30 of Al bakara... again as I have highlighted in my previous comments. The meaning of Islam can be understood in several ways . However they all lead to the same meaning... back to purpose of life, to answer I we need to understand a number of concepts: Worship in Islam I every act that you do with the hope of servicing Allah's will. So if you go to sleep hoping to rest in order for you to work hard the next day within the boundaries of Allah's will, your sleep is considered worship. Allah does not need our worship. So basically the creator has no need from the creation... this presents a question of why worship if he does not need it? Will the acts of worship through the 5 pillars of Islam or observing Allah in our life are things that are good for us as individuals and communities. Scientifically proven. So Allah, like a loving parent, order us to perform these acts that are good to us and punish us if we don't do what is good... like punishing your child if they don't brush their teeth. Most children view it as a chore to satisfy their parents... hope you see the analogy. We worship Allah out of Taqwa.. which is a concern meaning that we do these things that are good for us with the hope of appeasing Allah. Not because praying for example is a good meditation technique... rather we pray because we love Allah and seek his satisfaction... hard concept to understand... it took me a while to. So the purpose of life is to build this humanity Community on earth and make a peaceful and comfortable place for humanity to live through the generations. Those who support this plan and seek its fulfilment will go to heaven. Those who oppose or hinder this plan will go to hell... remember that we discuss humanity as a whole... so when you act in a certain way, you should observe your action future effect. We see examples of this in muslim history like Omar prayer incident in Jerusalem... Hope I answered part of your question with my blabbering
