Today we are talking about the drama around Baldur's Gate 3's romance scene, where there are some wild shape problems, giving us a scene where two people "romance" while one is a bear.
should Christians play a game that involves this?

pretty fair take " it's about choices" , we don't quit or not participate in life because temptations exist out there. Kudos on your rational perspective.

To be fair in a world where you can throw fireball or set childrens on fire I dont think having sex with a druid in bear form is a big deal. Will I do it? No because shadowbabe would not approve but it it can make some furries "happy" and others have a good laugh why not.

@@CHRISTIAN_GAMER maybe a bit 🤣. To be fair I really think she gonna be the origin character with the most interesting story. For some reasons her connection to shar feel like we only know half of the story and im hyped to know who she really is considering that all the origin character seem to be "more important" than what they hint during act 1.

Spoiler for spicy relationship option: (Actually Shadowbabe is one of the only characters who's okay with a polyamorous relationship with both the player character and Halsin...)

Christians heavily cherry pick what they are offended by and what morals they follow from their holy book. Magic and sorcery are considered blasphemous but they don’t seem to care about role playing those themes. I can’t take them seriously when they’re triggered by one (admittedly odd) scene.

You bring up a interesting point. Even just the fact that we are fine with playing games that involve killing, but if the game was focused on sexual assault, that would be too far.

I think you may have stumbled upon the greater theme of ludonarrative dissonance. Like in uncharted you are playing this light hearted treasure hunter, who is also a mass murderer. Or any action game where you are advancing a plot through brutality, are those games acceptable? I agree with katie and broken mask that really every video game (that I play anyways) involves breaking Christian values. I'm still wrestling through the theology of "just war" but even games like fallout 4 I am keenly aware that I'm just mass murdering npcs the game marks as "bad guys". romancing characters in mass effect, thats a paddlin, playing a game where you wield the force or magic, that's a paddlin. Playing any of the GTA games, oh you better believe that's a paddlin. My point is that overall the vast majority of games we play as Christians are outside of our boundaries of ethical living, with the big exceptions of XCOM 2 and the DOOM franchise. Aliens and demons don't count. So the real question is where do we draw the lines on what we will or won't engage with? No one complained in Mass Effect when you could make it with aliens. So I suppose in the end just be true to your conscience. Christians guided by the Holy Spirit will know when they are violating their ethical boundaries. I also listen to a LOT of punk rock. I have prayed that if God wanted me to I would give it up but I've never felt compelled ethically to do so. I think another argument is that if your eye causes you to sin gouge it out (not literally) and so rather than engage in virtual bestiality don't. play a heretic cleric instead. Are they violating the first two of the Ten Commandments? sure they are! but they also adhere to a more palatable moral code. Now that I've typed all this out I realize it has nothing to do with ludonarrative dissonance but I'm leaving it in to show how smrt I am.

I think that while I can understand the conflict that many engage in, people should remember... it's just pixels. There are actual people being abused and hurt that should be getting our attention and outrage, and should be getting our energy. These are multi colred pixels. If you don't wanna make love to the bear,.... don't. The romancing in the games can be avoided, ... we all have agency here. Almost like Larian wants us to engage with the consequences of our free will choices. Weird to have that in a video game.

I think the people raging against this scene have forgotten one very important part. Consent. The druid in wildshape is no different than a person in a costume. They're both consenting adults. And like you said, they have a choice here. All of the murder and magic, but they're angry about two adults having some fun.

Thats a fair argument. Some people’s problem with it stems from it being a man having sex with a bear, aka beastiality. Druids full on reshape their bodies into beasts. Some could argue that they are beasts at that point. The argument could be that they are just like furries, similar to what you mention about being in costume. For Christians, I don’t think it’s right to put your sexuality there; it’s a different form of beastiality.

Veto-ing games doesn't work. All you do is bring more eyes to the game you are trying to veto. No such thing as bad publicity, because bad publicity tends to be free publicity. I am a Christian woman, and I feel that if you do not support druids having sex with human men, then do not play that storyline. But it would be insane to try and say " this needs to be taken out, because I disapprove." Pearl Clutchers need to stick to Virtua Scrabble or something.
@CHRISTIAN_GAMER
@CHRISTIAN_GAMER 11 ай бұрын
I would say that it depends by what you mean by Veto-ing. That's like saying that paying for a game doesn't support it. I also agree that technically no publicity is bad publicity - it is all free marketing, but I do think that doesn't mean someone's word can't have a negative impact on the product. If you say that a game is fundamentally bad, sure that could get more eyes on the product, but if the product is bad, then that won't be positive.
