@@CB_agotchi Yeah - wondering the same. Maybe it makes them feel "better than" everyone else and that's what they get off on. They've been so brainwashed by evangelical Christianity that only GOOD people go to heaven and the only GOOD people are the ones who follow our Lord Jesus Christ. And I dunno, they must've been beaten within an inch of their lives either physically or verbally or both about how bad and worthless and less than they were as children to want to be good seen as good Christians so badly. A lot of people with insecurities and shame - lotta poor southern folk and whatever - with a chip on their shoulder toward everyone "better than them" see claiming Christianity as a fix and a FLEX to others that makes them feel superior. Gives them the superiority they crave. As if superiority is the antidote to feeling inferior. God forbid we see each other as equals and cooperate in this life as a team to make life better for everyone. Remember, thou shalt have no other God but me!!! Isn't that literally the first commandment? And they love the get out of jail free card of all it takes to be with Jesus and God the father in eternity is to believe in them and ask forgiveness. So literally any time all the time you can do that. Cuz God loves you no matter what. And they love the story of the prodigal son - for the son who is wayward but then comes back home is the guy REALLY worth celebrating by the father. And what they REALLY love? The OLD testament. The part of the Bible BEFORE Jesus and his teachings of love and kindness and care and a loving God -- the OLD testament - the part of the Bible that describes a God flawed much like it's authors - straight, jealous, homophobic, insecure, mean spirited, violent, vengeful, lustful, horny, selfish, possessive, immature, entitled, narcissistic, egomaniacsl, war hungry, small minded, superstitious cult worshipping, child abusing, slave holding, authoritarian men. In fact I call them Biblical Literalists. Or Old Testament Literalists. Not Christians. Or at the very least false Christians. Because as Christianity by definition means you follow, believe in, and try to practice the teachings of Jesus Christ. In fact, I think every non fake / true Christian and non Christian should really challenge ALL the fake Christians. We shouldn't let them get away with misusing that term and claiming to be Christians / mislabeling themselves and falsely representing themselves.

On the Protestant side, you have Prosperity Gospel: "If I'm rich, it's because God recognizes my unwavering faith." And on the Catholic side, you have "Eye Of The Needle" doctrine. So that you own your suffering and poverty, and don't revolt against The Man. It's perfect.

I saw something in a show once where they argued that there is no such thing as a true good deed. There is always some kind of selfish motive behind it. Even by saying that "it feels good to help others" can be viewed as selfish because it makes *you* feel good. However, I am of the opinion that, even if it can be viewed that way, I'd rather help someone than not help someone. Whether there is a heaven or not. It makes decisions a lot easier when you simplify it to this: will this decision hurt others? If yes, then don't do it. If not, then go ahead. Of course, there are a LOT of nuances and it isn't always that simple, but it helps to think of things in that kind of way.

It's also a problem of short-term and limited thinking. Kids who receive enough meals are able to better take in the information in school, which better prepares them for adulthood, which in turn helps society when they enter the workforce (because they will be more skilled and knowledgeable). It also promotes the idea of working together to solve problems, and supporting each other when one is struggling. But because people want to fight over resources, and hoard it for themselves instead of sharing it, or because they think others are less deserving of it, they don't realize that this will cost us in the future. It's the same with CEO's not giving a crap about their workers. In the end, they will lose the respect of their workers, which leads to poor performance and quality (or they become overworked which leads to the same problem). This in turn affects their clientele, and ultimately their business. At the end of the day, greed, selfishness and hatred is short-sighted and will always only end in failure. It is the snake biting its own tail until there is nothing left.

As I grew up, the crazy conservatives in my parents’ church in Texas (Church of Christ) we were told over and over: It is the parents’ responsibility to feed and care for babies and children. I couldn’t find any Bible verses that said this. My grandparents taught us it was our responsibility to care for and help the helpless, the unemployed, the struggling people, drug and alcohol addicts, refugees, conscientious objectors, strangers in need, vets, homeless, the list was long. They did calmly and quietly with no one really knowing about it. Until they passed away, that’s how they lived. Even hitchhiking folks stuck in the road! I do not understand these evangelicals and conservative Catholics, Protestants and any others that refuse to help and express caring and love for those that most need it. And those of us that are loved too. I miss them so much and try to honour their examples. They also could not care less about sexuality or gender issues or race or colour. What happened?

The "Religious Right" is a construct started in the later 1970s. Before that, the church didn't care about abortion. If you read up on it, the whole movement is a racist effort to find a way around de-segregation and abortion was just the rallying cry that they found could become a polarizing issue to gain support around a more palatable issue. In fact, the Christian Medical Society met in 1968 around the issue of abortion, declared that there was no clear stance about it either way in the Bible, but acknowledged that there was sometimes a necessity for it and also that the church had no business to dictate what a woman could choose. (Hypocrisy not lost on me, as the institutions of the church constantly tell people what they can and cannot do).

"The Christian Medical Society met in 1968 around the issue of abortion, [and] declared that there was no clear stance about it either way in the Bible...." But the Bible is quite clear... in its silence. You see, the Romans had a very effective pregnancy terminating pill called "silphium." And we know how Yeshua and the apostles just went on and on about how sinful -- no. No, you have never heard of silphium because they never said a word against it. Were they shy about discussing things they disapproved of? And what was Paul's ethnicity? Oh yeah, he was a Roman! So the Bible's very clear in its stance: guys, this is not our business. If you, dear reader, have a moral concern about abortion, believe it or not I share your ethical queasiness. But the fact is the pro-life position has no Biblical basis. And that's okay. The Bible fails to condemn slavery too, and we all know slavery is wrong. ...We all do know slavery is wrong, don't we?

Thank you for speaking truth! My husband and I are christians and he has been a pastor and we are completely against Trump and everything he's doing! I don't understand people in the church supporting him at all. I try to question people and gently challenge their beliefs and actions. We have been very lucky in finding our current church, which is United Methodist. Our pastor is a woman and preaches from the scriptures every week and will speak, from the pulpit, the truth of our current situation. Our church has more outreach than churches 10x our size. We live those verses you read today. I don't know your story but please don't lose faith in all churches or christians, there are many out there that strive to live the life Jesus told us to live. If course no one is perfect or without sin but our motives are truthful and align with teachings of Jesus. We need to come together and organize into a force that can make some noise and stand up for the downtrodden. Thank you again for your video and God bless.

Thank you for your message. I am a Methodist now, but was raised a Southern Baptist. Expressed in simple words; Baptists try to condemn people, while methodists help pull folks up and teach them about how Jesus loves us and how he wishes us to serve. A simplistic view, but what I feel. I was condemned by the Baptists for having a child out of wedlock.

I was just recommended this video. I'm an Evangelical Christian (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) and happily quote Matthew 25 to many of my fellow Christians. I'll go so far as to ask "is building a wall welcoming the stranger? I'd sure hate standing before God and have to explain why I thought it was acceptable to refer to people as vermin and to take food away from children." I also gleefully say "I'm pro life: I support health care for everyone, free food for those who are hungry, anti-death penalty..... Pro life means womb to tomb. I'm not just pro birth." Great video.

Thanks for reading Matthew 25 31-46, as it pretty much sums up what it is to be a Christian, and what those who follow Jesus should strive for. Since the age of 45/47 and his cult, I have seen so many trees claiming to be Christian and none of them produce any kind of fruit. I've actually seen more pastors preaching hate then I ever thought possible, and just a few days ago one threw up a yahtzee salute(I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried). Always remember, there's no love, like Christian h8te, and the evangelicals shows us that every chance they get.

Speaking as someone raised in Evangelical circles ... what happens is we reveal how closely were were paying attention to certain teachings and Bible readings--or not. Some of us nod along and find ways to justify the dissonance and stay among those people. The rest of us have become so repulsed we have either left Christianity altogether, abandoned the organized form of it, or simply abandoned Evangelicalism for other sects. The leaver-groups often carry with them a kind of moral wound from having to do this because it feels much like we were betrayed by our community, and yet we can't even understand when that betrayal really happened.

@@AlohaChips Yeah, getting hurt by the church is a real thing, my husband and I found out to our surprise and dismay! You would think that church would be the *last* place you should feel unsafe in, but unfortunately it's true! We even read an article in a Christian magazine about that and that's where the surprise comes in - that others acknowledge that it's a thing. Fortunately, the church we're at now is pretty good, and stays pretty neutral as far as politics (although people do have their opinion, I've found out in Bible study), but should it ever change, we'd be out of there!

But since Trump came on the scene I've been horrified at the change in her. I saw her right after he had said the 'grab them by the pussy' comment. I asked her how she could defend any man that bragged about that. Her response was, "That's just locker room talk." I was dumfounded. I asked her if her dead husband would have talked like that, or my father, or my grandfather, in a locker room or anywhere else. She admitted, "No", but I could see that she was still in favor of Trump. I don't know how to reach her. I'm not even sure if I should try.
