One thing I didn't notice but would like to have pointed out in the video, is that starting around 8:04 you can see at least 5 billionaires standing behind Rev. Lorenzo Sewell after his prayer. These are the oligarchs currently purchasing our country and standing behind a guy claiming to speak on behalf of Jesus. It doesn't get any more Orwellian.

@@DarkMatter2525 Jesus is worse than all of them. Whatever you can say about them doesn't even come close to the evils of Jesus Christ. He's the one who sent Anne Frank to hell for all eternity, assuming Xtianity is true, which it isn't, of course, thankfully. As Hitchens said himself,, the NT is where the fun REALLY begins. In the OT, Yahweh just strikes you down, and sends you to Sheol. In the NT, Jeebus strikes you down, and sends you to Hell, forever. The OT doesn't even come close. 🤣

You DarkMatter2525 are an intellectual heavyweight. You are (not single handedly) responsible for my loss of bigotry towards LGBTQ+ people and (single handedly) responsible for my exit from the menosphere (red pill space). I’ve always been a fan of yours for your atheist content and would like to thank you for opening my eyes and my mind to the world. I used to be homophobic, but the more I thought about it, I asked myself, why do I hate something that really has nothing to do with me? Do the actions of gay people affect my financial status, my health, my happiness etc. No, they don’t, so why was I so bothered by them? It was because I was taught to hate them, I think the fact that I’m an atheist made it easier for me to discard my bigotry because most justifications for homophobia are religious, and I don’t adhere to that doctrine.

@@BlacksmithTWD The Gospels were written decades after Jesus supposedly lived. The stories of Jesus were told orally until that time, plenty of space/time for embellishments (ever play the game of "telephone"?) So the "words" of Jesus aren't even the words of Jesus. They are the Gospels' authors' storytelling. So one can't say "Jesus said this" or "Jesus said that" -- only those who were actually with Jesus at the time he said anything knows what he said. I find it funny how often I use Christs words against Christians. Even though I don’t believe he existed, I do think his biblical character is pretty admirable because he was basically a hippie who wanted everyone to care about each other (an oversimplification of course, but still fits the vibe). And that desire to have everyone love each other makes Christians EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Edit: I’m tired of individually replying this so here’s an edit: I’m well aware that Jesus was a real guy. I said I don’t believe he existed was a bad way to phrase it, what I meant I I don’t believe Jesus as he was written in the Bible was a real guy. I don’t believe in the supernatural. But yes, a guy named Jesus lived, was baptized, and was crucified.

@@Legendarylegend75 actually no, Christ’s greatest legacy is his sacrifice for humanity. He hated sin and therefore gave his life so all sinners could be forgiven. Note how he did that for the sake of sinners. Why? Because he loved humanity and he expected humanity to love itself. It’s true he wanted people to love god as well, but his sacrifice is what we remember him for. He constantly made friends with sinners. The very day he would be put to death he told the criminal next to him that he would be with him in paradise. Idk man, seems like a guy who really liked people despite their sins to me.

I find it ironic that the people who most often try to force homosexuality on me are closeted Christians who claim to be straight. I was literally SAed as a child by these people who hate gays. For a long time I hated gays myself because based on my limited experience I had assumed that homosexuality was always forced. It wasn't till I was in my 20's and a gay co-worker asked me "What do you care what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home when it doesn't involve you?" And I realized I didn't have a answer for that because the idea of it ever being consentual had never even occured to me till that point in my life. Openly gay men, at least the ones I've interacted with, have been far more likely to respect my boundaries and not force their sexuality on me than these supposedly "straight" Christians who seem to afraid of their own sexuality. There's a reason that so many Catholic Priests were caught with young boys. Maybe they should worry more about the immoral behavor within their own Church groups than what other people are doing in private with consenting adults.

You've scratched the surface of a rather big topic, which doesn't get discussed enough, and which I've never seen get discussed in completeness. The long essay below is actually only part. I saw this from a different angle, going to an extremely conservative (traditionalist) Catholic private school in the wake of the "Spot Light" scandal. I got to see my super-Catholic do everything they could to point the finger at homosexual "infiltrators" and away from any faults with Catholicism, itself. The topic of "the queers" maybe came up every other lecture by are headmaster, who taught a number of my classes. Sitting through that from the time I was 15 until I was 18, I learned from them that being coercive was supposedly just part of my nature. I can totally imagine how some less scruplulous individuals might take that lesson and then proceed to live up to the expectations they were taught to have of themselves. Another thing worth noting is that consent isn't even part of traditional sexual "morality." Traditionally, they've been a lot more concerned with "eww," "natural law," "purity," etc. There isn't even any credible defense of consent in the Bible. I've challenged multiple Christians to find one, and they've responded only with passages that teach the opposite (the man's authority/ownership of his wife). This attitude persisted even into the 19th century, when age of consent was still as low as 12 or 13 and fathers still had the authority to, more or less, sell off their daughters to much older men. To reiterate, the concern was "eww," or "natural law," not consent. If she was capable of having kids and daddy liked the man asking for her, then it was all perfectly "natural." Even as late as the 50s or 60s, it wasn't unheard of for teenage boys who were victimized to be prosecuted as "accomplices." As far as the law was concerned, it wasn't their autonomy that was infringed on. It was "natural law." Anyhow, because ancient sexual mores were already quite coercive, this effectively linked homosexuality to coercion. The Romans almost mandated that the "receptive" position in homosexual acts had to be someone it was forced on. It was acceptable for someone of high rank to subject someone of low rank to this, but you were necessarily highlighting their lowly station. When Christian authorities banned homosexuality outright, it was conceptually frozen in time. Heterosexual standards were able to evolve to eventually give women some dignity and autonomy. By the 60s, *_the public was mentally comparing 60s ethical standards in heterosexual relationships to ancient Roman standards for homosexuality._*

You've scratched the surface of a very big and important topic. A ton of history behind it and a lot of things to go into in order to fully cover how thoroughly religion has poisoned the water as well as exacerbated the risk of SA. I see it from the perspective of someone who, as a teenager, was taught that coercion was basically in my nature. Very conservative Catholic school in the wake of the "Spot light" scandal. They were pointing the finger at gay "infiltrators" in order to excuse their religion, and I took that message in and took years to realize how they had confused me about my own self. I can imagine how some less scrupulous individuals could internalize that message and then proceed to live up to those dark expectations.
@somexp12
@somexp12 12 күн бұрын
Also related: Consent is not actually a part of traditional sexual "morality," which is more concerned about "eww," "natural law," and a man's "property." You won't find consent defended in the Bible. When I challenge Christians to find such a passage they usually come back with something like Deut 22, which (if read objectively) teaches the precise opposite. This attitude has persisted well into Christendom. By the 19th century, for example, 12 or 13 year old girls could still be married off to much older men without having any say in the matter. 100 years of feminism has accomplished far more for consent than 2000 years of Christianity.

It's hard being a Catholic. Not because I am persecuted or particularly disadvantaged, and not because taking part in the traditions is time-consuming and involved, but because I have to witness people ignoring the teachings of Christ and the church while claiming to be his greatest followers. "Those groups aren't inherently political, they're made political by people who want to enact political policy against them" I'm a transwoman. I have family members who are hardline MAGA. So many times I've been told in my conversations at gatherings 'don't be political' or 'don't talk politics'. And then they ask me how things are going. How my life is going. These people have made my life politics, then complain when I talk about my life. These people don't understand that the ability to be apolitical is a privilege afforded to those who haven't been made pawns in political games. I've only ever wanted to live my life and find happiness, and for the crime of exercising those rights we have declared belong to all people I must now watch in horror as everything that protected me is being stripped away by those who claim themselves to follow the man who showed compassion and mercy to migrants and prostitutes and lepers.

My sister's youngest is nonbinary and everyone, EVERYONE, in the house uses the dead name (Lizzy, Elizabeth, etc.) and I just want to tell them I am so sorry that her dad voted for trump and her mom likely did too, I don't know how to reach out to them and tell them they are seen and their parents should truly know better just from the experience they have seen them go through. (sadly this has been the most correct pronouns I think anyone has use for them in the family just in this paragraph.) I had to fight from typing she/her this whole time just because I am the only one that has really ever called them Eli, and I know that's what they go by at school as it's written on their lunch bag everyday. I don't think this made me seem like a good ally but I really do understand their want to not be labeled something different then how they feel, I just go with the flow of the rest of the family and that's on me. But hopefully typing this will open my mind up for a little more acknowledgement for them. Sorry if this strayed from what you were trying to get across, as I think transitioning is something each person has to decide on their own, not force on those that feel the need to stop them. It's your life, live like you want to live! I emotionally support you in that as well as with my vote, not that it did any good this time around, but maybe, just maybe trump will open enough people's eyes they will see that the status quo is not so quo anymore and something has got to give and trump was not the right direction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/in7QpGV6f7Nja5Y ^ In the URL above, a link to YOUR video: A Bible Story Snagged from Older Gods - By DarkMatter 2525 The purpose of the unuma Alish which the Babylonians read every Babylonian new year was to point out the fact that the deities and there's countless deities in the Pantheon they actually come from the created order so they're not outside of time and space. They actually come from the created order and when they die in this battle right when teamot is defeated, the defeated God become the earth and the sky and the the plants and even you and me and in that sense the theme is that you don't actually have any purpose or end result and you're not created in the image of God. In fact in the ancient Babylonian system only the kings were created in the image of God, and what we see that is counter to that is that even sure they're superficial you know "divided the waters" but we find that in almost every you society and culture that's not that's not a parallel as much as just a generality. I would say what we see within the biblical account is that God purposefully creates, there's only one God, he purposefully creates, and then he creates and it's good and it continues to say it's good seven times and then at the end of chapter one just for, you know the thick people in the original audience it says and then it was very good and then he creates Humanity, not Kings but simply the humans that he creates in God's image and they have purpose and meaning and that instills them with this creation order and that's not what we find in the unuma Alish. In fact we find the opposite in the unuma Alish is that the created order is not good, it's a mistake, and that you are not created in the image of God and there's a reminder that regular people are not created in the image of God. -Wes Huff STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION!

How could their turn away from what they call God when _they invented their own God out of their own prejudices and hatreds to begin with?_ None of those -people- know what the bible says, none of them know a single damn thing about 'Yahweh'. God is just an externalization of their own opinions. If _they_ hate charity, that's just an opinion, but if they say they have a magic invisible space wizard friend who hates charity, that makes their opinion "justified". They're "christians" in the sense that 1. there's not actually any such thing as a christian because it's literally impossible to follow all the rules that would make someone BE a christian and 2. the standard for being a christian is to just call yourself one without any further work or effort involved. "God" is _their own opinions._ The only way they could turn away from god is if they became better people. Like that's ever gonna happen.

What I discovered is though Christians claim their roots from Judaism, the two are diametrically oppossed. Very few Jews could stomach what Paul was teaching. No wobder he had to go to the gentiles. We are witnessing the birth of a new religion. These people call themselves Christians, but the Christ that they claim to worship is foreign to those who worship a loving, merciful god. This is not a god who loves immigrants, who loves the indigent and sick. This is a god of war and power and narcissism, given the name of a god of love. Perhaps we could call him "Supply Side Jesus".

Old testament, New testament, into Revelations which supposedly predicts the future, throughout Christian history with the crusades. I am not Christian myself, but the kind of hypocracy that you're expertly pointing out has always baffled me. I've read enough of the Bible to know that it speaks about helping the poor, taking foreigners in, and loving thy neighbor, etc. And to see people claim to be Christian but act the way they do, it really seems obvious that they don't actually follow the teachings of the Bible / Jesus at all. They just say they are Christians for money and clout essentially, and it's gross when so many people are scared and hurting. No, there IS something wrong when Black preachers across the country all get up & do an MLK performance when they preach. All Blackfolks don't have the same speech patterns. But too many pastors feel they have to mine King's tone & timbre & cadence. Preaching the gospel should be about a pastor speaking from his heart & being true to himself & the way he normally speaks. @@immortal2u You're hitting a language barrier, here. He's a christian, so when he says "more christian" he means "a good person". So it seems like you're saying different things, but you're actually completely in agreement. Roboticski just doesn't understand what he's saying sounds like to a real person. @EdwardHowton Flat out wrong! I don't believe people are naturally good! Everyone has the ability of both good and evil (with varying dispositions). Even though DarkMatter is not a following of Christ he still uphold the core value of "loving others" unlike many so called following of Christ, hence more "Christian"
