Christina Aguilera doesn't use auto-tune

I made this video bcuz I'm tired of dumb ppl saying that Christina freaking Aguilera uses auto-tune. And I know this video's a bit amateur but I'm kinda just getting the hang of it lol so be nice. I like her tone! Whitney Housten, Xtina and Mariah Carey all have such lovely tones to their voices. Recently I was listening to Mariah Carey's Butterfly live on Letterman and I just think "wow, such a unique voice!" The same goes for Xtina's Oh Mother live as well.Any live by Whitney is good in my opinion lol She was pretty much a beast in her own right. Someone mentioned in a comment once that she gets nervous sometimes and that's why she messes up during some of her lives. I'm not sure how true that is. She has some technique obviously, but sometimes she sounds like she's straining, so I'm not sure what that's all about. But overall, her voice is full of passion and it's raw and it's lovely. I think it's more than just belting. I personally like when she doesn't belt throughout her songs, because her softer notes are just as pretty.

Her editors have used pro-tools to bend notes a bit. And they have amplified her high notes, but the important thing is: she doesn't NEED PITCH correction because she can hear very well. Her technique means that she can't always replicate her studio material, but even when this is the case live, she does an ad-lib that is in the correct key. She wouldn't be a household name or as praised as she is unless she had a good ear.

Nice video! Im a big fan of Xtina but in her last two albums there did seem to be some editing to make her high notes sound better. Not sure if it is because of damage to her vocal chords or because her voice seems to get deeper with every album. But still she has an awesome voice! ^^ PS I know a lot of artists whove studied music for years and basically they all say that literally EVERY ARTIST uses autotune and/ or editing

Hey thanks for the comment☺️tbh in Bionic she definitely used auto-tube but not for her vocals, she used it to give her voice more of an electronic/robotic sound and how she thought music will sound in the next decade or so. As for Lotus, hmm I don't think she used auto-tune, because in the studio you can try multiple times till you get the note right(or use auto-tune like some singers lol) so I don't think she used auto-tune in Lotus either.

in bionic definitly but indeed it was for artistic purpose :) i didnt mean editing btw but it does sound like sometimes the high are a bit cleaned up in the lotus era. Especially if you compare them to the live performances. Not every song though :) but i do feel she has been working on her voice for that. But some artists use less and some others more, some artists need it, some others don't (but will use it anyway). There's clearly auto tune in the Lotus era. Is not because she can't sing, a lot of artists that you probably think that don't have auto tune on their songs actually have (Beyonce, Mariah Carey. ..), is pretty much common in the studio

+Leeuwtjuhhh Yeah she had a few vocal accidental periods (Late 2010) (A good chunk of 2012 and 2013) Not to mention her technique has never been the best (Stripped was a dawn of poor stylistic choices). She suffered a bit of vocal damage as her voice matured but for the most part her voice is still fine. Her Bionic album had no "correctional" auto-tune, it was all for style. Her Lotus album had correctional autotune for notes she had clearly lost (F5) but not much else (see Blank page or just a fool, there is almost no editing)

But you know what I feel though? Christina has explicitly stated that she doesn't use autotune, but I know as a matter of fact she has used it before. The moment I saw her in that clip during the Bionic era making those statements, I immediately thought of When You Put Your Hands on Me, where she really does use AutoTune at the end of the song. I know it's used as an artistic direction, but she really shouldn't be making statements she can't keep. I personally don't see anything wrong with AutoTune, it's a bit dated right now, but AutoTune itself is okay. If your talking about pitch correction programs like Melodyne, that are actually mostly used for pitch correction as opposed to an art direction, that's something else. But the same goes for Lady GaGa, she has stated "I have never lip synched and I never will." But then here she is, caught for lip synching... Don't say shit you're not 100% behind...

As for artistic reasons, she has admitted in putting a twist in the Bionic Album so it sounds more robotic/futuristic. Auto-tune will ALWAYS sound robotic. Auto-tune is not for fixing frequencies, it's simply for vocal effect. There are programs out there for fixing vocals, like Melodyne, which is what Christina said she doesn't use. Christina probably just didn't know the difference, but they are definitely not the same thing. Auto-tune is very invasive and destructive to the entire waveform, but with something like Melodyne you could get in and change the vibrato, length, or pitch to each individual note. Christina probably hasn't used much of that, but of course they use it on everyone anyway just to fix little bits here and there.
