This is Christina Superstars Biography, and it’s only on Retro Room. Christina was both friend and subject to videographer Nelson Sullivan. Christina portrayed by Marilyn Manson in the 2003 movie Party Monster. Superstar was crowned, by Michael Alig as his first 'It Girl" in 1986.
Part 3, spans the end of 1988 to Christina's passing in may of 1989, The final Chapter of Christina Superstar's Biography.

Ty for this series. Christina led such a troubled life. I had never really heard of her until a couple yrs ago when I stumbled upon Nelson's videos. I was immediately hooked. She and Nelson passed way too early in their lives. So sad.

Thank you for finishing out the story and sharing excerpts of the article. I can't imagine how hard those last years were for her. And poor Nelson. You get hints in his last videos of his anguish over Christina but hearing how involved he was with the aftermath of her death, knowing it would be the last month of his life, is heartbreaking. I'm so glad that Nelson's videos, his obvious adoration of her in them, is how people now remember her, not that movie.

I don't know if this is something you're interested in but you can request Christina's autopsy report/death certificate.. It's all public record. All you need is a name, birthdate and the county the person died in and you can make a FOIA request for all public records related to her name (even the previous court documents and her arrest information, etc.)... There is likely some more context in those records that will provide some answers/details about what she was going through and what happened to her.

Again, thank you for making these. I don't want to say I enjoyed them, because that is the wrong word. I learned about Christina from watching Nelson Sullivan's videos, and every so often, I go back and rewatch them as well as yours. The ONLY part I can't really understand is the choice of background music on here, as I would have expected it to be something from that era and scene. But I don't even mean to put my two cents in as a complaint. More just a suggestion to consider for future videos on the 1980s club scene, since such a strong mood is set by the footage. Cheers!

She was beautiful just very troubled. I wish she was still here. I thought she looked better than any of her competitors…Nelson really cared for her too. They died within months of one another. He is a legend too!!

Looking at those final photos, and as a former fighter, that doesn’t look like she got beat up, that droop looks like she had a damn stroke, which also would explain the cane as I’m not seeing any obvious swelling or trauma down there (though it’s admittedly hard to tell in the still shots) With the final autopsy not being revealed what was the rumor mill? I saw somewhere else it was suicide but I’m questioning that source as it seems they made a bunch of other factual errors if your 3 part series is on point. Not knowing if any conclusion is known I have to wonder if she may have died from complications related to a stroke, I’m going to assume there was a fair amount of drug use going on during this period? I don’t like making such assumptions but I don’t think I’m out of line with this one. Edit: I should add I know very little about this story or the scene around it, I wasn’t even aware of her existence until I came across one of Nelson’s videos, who I also had never heard of, that said it’s been an interesting rabbit hole to go down.

Christina stated that he was dead. 1. I have found no evidence of his death.. obit, news report, etc. 2. I have found no evidence that he is alive either, no social media no professional website. No discussion of him from his peers from back In the day either. Odd, considering most of them are currently working for or with WOW. I am still looking into this however. Stay tuned.

So, unless my math’s deceiving me, Christina would’ve just turned 35 before her passing? Is there anything out there that points to a more specific cause of death? There’s obviously more of a consensus involving drugs and an escalation in her misuse of them due to the pending court case. However, whether it was death through misadventure i.e. an accidental overdose, or an actual suicide remains just as unclear as it did 33 years after the fact?

her obituary doesnt list any cause of death, but her obituary uses her deadname so... it was probably written with as few personal details as possible.

@@erinolsen8062 kinda defeats the whole purpose of an obituary for the cause of death to be omitted, don’t you think? However things were different 33 years ago, especially as the deceased was on a spectrum that was far more discriminated against compared to now. She was also, psychologically, in a very bad way due uncontrolled bouts of psychoses, namely schizophrenia. I believe she suffered from diabetes also. Nonetheless, even all of her complexities still managed to exude their own unique beauty. Always able to read a room, even if she wasn’t fully being included by the people in it, she was very sharp, intelligent and quick on the uptake. I imagine that because she was no longer Christopher Smith, that might be why there are so few details. It’s certainly in keeping with a cold case if I ever saw one, which more or less says it all as far as I’m concerned, such a tragically sad and unfortunate end to someone with the potential makings of a genuine Superstar…..and not just in name only.

@Lady of Butterflies So do I! I find her fascinating, and this was just EVIL! Like Erin Olsen said, her birth name wasn't even Christina, but still done to masculine and humiliate her, on HER day! I do believe Christina intentionally ended her life, knowing she was sick, and being constantly shit on by ppl she seen as friends, for the last months of her life. Along with the psychological issues she was born with, and her "friends" also knew about, just pressed her decision.

@@tfs203 I also think she ended her life….. there is no way it was an accident… it didn’t have to be like this. so very sad… I think that Nelson was the only true friend to her, he included her in all of the activities: Thanksgiving, new year holiday celebration, and if she wasn’t there he talked about her….
