We need more information on autistic women and girls because it’s already focused a lot on autistic boys and men. Autistic girls have been left behind because of this. Girls are better at masking than boys and we need to learn how to identify those girls.

That’s fantastic❤, I had no idea autism in women was so in the dark, I hope one day everyone gets equal care

This is too true. I was diagnosed at the age of six and I definitely didn't see more than maybe one other girl who had the same diagnosis as me when there were more boys in my class that were diagnosed and got care. I remember being diagnosed and feeling so alone and misunderstood. I still think no one really understands how isolating an autism and add diagnosis is.

Not sexist at all - the current identification/dx rates are 4 male to 1 female. That could be because the diagnostic criteria was developed on junior school boys in pre-war Vienna. And it hasn’t significantly changed over the years. -Mike

I'm with you about school. I dropped out of college multiple times because I was nervous being in a classroom with other people. I could do the work but finally gave up😢

I am happy to be living in a time like this. Autism in women, girls, and people assigned female at birth needs so badly to be researched, diagnosed, and understood. ❤

I can relate from all the Instagram posts and community ,I think I have probably been autistic my whole life and it was never caught ,I am 22 years old and not officially diagnosed but it all fits, but I don't go to the doctor ,so I will probably never officially know

I was that teenage girl a free ago. Now I’ve figured out I’m autistic and I’m getting support and I’m doing ok with my mental health. I just wanted to say to any other teens struggling that it is ok to struggle, that it is ok to not be perfect, that it is ok to not be normal and that you are still loved by someone in this world and on this Earth just the way you are. You don’t need to hide who you truly are, you can show your true personality or whatever it is and the people who truly care and love you well stay by you. I now is not easy, I know people have it harder than I did but I also know that you feel happier when you can be who you truly are. So stay here a little longer, just take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time, somewhere there is a little kid looking up at you who wants to be you, who is so inspired by you that they keep going on their journey. You have a place on this Earth and this works be much worse without you in it ☺️.

Great documentary and very much needed! Finally feeling like Im being seen and understood. Knowing I was autistic at 14, but fighting the system for a diagnosis for 8 years before I finally found a doctor who believed me and got me referred. Spent all that time feeling very alone and couldn’t even turn to my friends for support as they didn’t believe me either. Masking is a defence mechanism to try and cope in a world not designed for us and our needs. We feel alienated from day 1. Thank you Christine ❤️

It’s so sad that she says she feels bad for not talking about boys. I’ll be honest I am still probably undiagnosed, but it’s pretty likely that I have some form of autism.

I am really unsure if I could be autistic or if I was just mistreated by my family, maybe both formed my life.
