Chain controls are in effect along major roadways in the Sierra as a substantial amount of snow falls on Christmas Eve. The KCRA 3 weather team is issuing an Impact Day for Tuesday because of how rain and snow will affect travel and outdoor activities. Meteorologist Kelly Curran said snow levels in the Sierra will drop to elevations around 5,000 feet. Six to 8 inches of new snow is possible through Donner Pass with up to 12 inches possible at the higher elevations at area ski resorts.
