I bet you’re glad Christmas only comes round once a year…although I suspect that what you showed us are probably just typical tasks after one of your grocery runs! Preserving all that fresh stuff with limited storage space clearly calls for the skills of a Jenga Queen as well as a brilliant cook. Hope you and the family thoroughly enjoyed the fruits of your labour - and all best wishes for 2025.

Living in the US I have never in my 44 years seen anyone ever can using lids like your black lids.. all I have ever seen is the basic ring and flat Ball type canning lids . I mean it makes sense cause PLENTY foods come in jars with twist top single piece lids.. i have seen plenty folks reuse store product jars but never the lids. Never once. I am baffled. I want to know more!!! I suddenly feel like I have been lied to my entire life. I also terribly feel your pain at the sudden panic working knowing you bought so much beautiful perfect fruits and veg and it's all going bad so fast so you are panic race preserving to avoid spoilage.. that's so much work.. I'm so glad the family is helping!! When I saw the shopping video I knew this was coming cause you are already stretched thin for the holidays but you did such a great job!! And again I love these style videos where we can see the live problem solving!! I also have never seen chicken dredged in baking soda.. corn starch yes.. it makes me wanna try it to see the texture it gives.. I learn so much from you❤❤ happy Holidays!!

Just adore figs. Yum yum. They are getting pretty expensive. I have a fig tree but the flesh is always dry. A lot of prep you got done here and oh the cheesecakes looked damn good. You reminded me I have one hiding in the freezer somewhere. Time to get it out. I get told I have too much in the freezer as it is chockers. But, really it empties out pretty quick over Christmas and Jan. it’s a good time to indulge in some extra things. Mind you I seem to eat less when it’s so hot. I think this format of talking to us as you work is a winner. I need some of the containers to store produce in the fridge. Nothing worse than finding spoilt broccoli and such.
@OurSmallFootprint16 күн бұрын
I definitely eat less in the heat, sometimes struggling to eat enough because it just urgh! This box of figs was only $20 odd, it was a really good buy, I was sad I lost some because I was slack getting it into the fridge.

@OurSmallFootprint16 күн бұрын
I use a mix of brands! Some are kmart, some are from amazon and some are tupperware. This is similar to the Amazon ones I got, but I don't use the smaller containers much, so for my house, getting larger only is probably better. amzn.to/3BW0Z08
@OurSmallFootprint16 күн бұрын
actually, they aren't right, there's no venting on them, hrmmm, let me see if I can find something 'right' because the ones I actually bought are sold out, you want a vent, like the tupperware ventsmarts, because broccoli and stuff doesn't last as long if its enclosed.

We signed up with bidfoods for a while, the restaurant supply place and ordered some basics through them, though it was quite expensive, Darryl went to Toowoomba more often and bought what he could at a time while masked etc and we limped through, it took a fair bit of fanangling and it wasn't cheap, but we managed to get enough just not necessarily our choice of 'enough'!

I cut out washing my hands a lot as I have to walk around the bench to do so, but also generally speaking, when working with raw chicken I'm touching the items that will be cooked alongside it :) So it doesn't matter because they will all be heated thoroughly :)
