A lot of Garnts points about his feelings around gift giving, being the centre of attention etc is very common in people with ADHD. Emotional distegulation is a symptom even though your thoughts are irration you can help but feel them so you try to mitigate the feeling by avoiding scenarios that make you feel that way.

Nah, Connor doesn't get it for good reason. Slice of life anime are made for people had a lot of difficulty touching grass. And I'm not talking about shut in basement dweller, I'm talking overworked salaryman just coming home at nine or ten and want something comfortable to watch. If you look at the broadcasting schedule, you'd find that many perfectly wholesome SoL anime aired close or even AFTER midnight.

For me, Slice of Life is the opposite of what how the boys described it. Instead of being able to relate and have nostalgia toward it for me, I have never experienced those things. So watching cute anime girls do or experience those things that I can't even though I want to is really comforting.

and i think that's why a show like non non biyori was so successful because lets be honest its not a masterpiece but if offer great escapism. for people that grew up in city and live in it for all their life, seeing these girl having fun in this small village in the countryside was honestly refreshing. natsume and the book of friend and mushishi too give those vibe even if they have more fantasy element to them. me i grew up in a forest but move to the city when i was 10 years old, so i really miss the countryside and nature and so when there is an anime that came out in these setting, i'm really grateful ( because lets be honest 99% of anime take place in tokyo or another big city).
@Endershock1678
@Endershock1678 10 ай бұрын
To me, it's a little bit of both. I love watching people experience things, especially things I never do, and a lot of times, watching these things inspires me to go out and do it, like with Yuru Camp, it made me want to appreciate nature more. Same with K-On, something about watching people form a band and play is something I never could pull off in high school, and seeing that made me proud of it, and made me want to at least relearn guitar. But at the same time, watching these, I draw parallels to my own life and it makes me appreciate these things more. Going back to the yuru camp example, while I don't go camping, I go on walks, and while going on walks, I was able to better appreciate nature, the sky, and the overall quiet isolation of this time away from the hustle and bustle. And I think more than anything, I just like people having a good time. Obviously, whenever, IDK, Naruto is happy, I am too, but with slice of life, the problems are much closer to reality, and because nothing is happening, and I'm not stressed about who is gonna die next arc, I can appreciate the atmosphere, the scenery, and the smaller interactions. I think I just like seeing people happy, and it's emphasized way more in slice of life than other genres, while at the same time, it helps me be happier in my life because I notice more of these little things.

Fun fact about the parks and city planning thing in Tokyo: Urban planning in Tokyo actually DID include lots of parks in the cityscape, in fact, the original plan for Tokyo across its development was even to encircle the city center in a belt of greenery and have people come to work in the city from smaller satelite cities, that would surround and be included in said belt. They started multiple attempts at this during Tokyo's development, but failed again and again. The problem with Tokyo was, that due to its massive growth, said belts would be broken apart time and time again, since the city expanded so rapidly (from somewhere below 1 Million people living in the urban region back whent he city was officially founded and renamed to Tokyo from Edo, back in 1889 to more than 37 Million living there today). Back then, of course, Tokyo wasn't merged with Yokohama, Chiba and Saitama the same way it is today, where the whole Megacomplex is basically one big urban area. If you know, where to look you can even still see that the current parks in Tokyo, more often than not, are a remnants of said efforts, since they align with those planned "belts" of greenery. Did my bachelors dissertation on the topic of urban planning in Tokyo across the last 150 years, was really interesting to see, how terribly hard it was to accomodate that many people in one city in such a comparatively short time, and the developments, challenges and failings it led to. That's also why I was able to look into some of the old urban development plans as a result and know about this little known fact.^^

I wonder if Asian cultures have secret Santa, because that’s basically a bunch of randomized surprise gifts 🤔 also, when they were talking about borrowing money from friends, I was surprised nobody mentioned banking apps. In my country (Croatia), we basically have phone apps made by the banks where if you put in your friend’s phone number and they confirm it, you can send them money directly from your bank account to their bank account in one click. So like, if you don’t have cash on you, and a friend pays like 10 euros for you, you can immediately just go into the app, type how much money you wanna send (10 euros), press send and it gets transferred from your bank account to theirs the same or next work day (if it’s the weekend). It saves you the trouble of having to remember how much you owe somebody and having to pay them back in the future.

COVID-19 Shots as they currently stand: Primary Vaccination Part 1 Primary Vaccination Part 2 Booster shot (monovalent) Booster Shot (Bivalent) Depending on _when_ you got your primary vaccination, you may not have needed the monovalent booster and skipped right to bivalent booster. Working in the hospital though, I got every vaccination + flu (required for employment)

I only had the first one, second one was scedueled during a last minute booked vacation because of the lowering of restrictions so I kinda just didnt go to the second shot. And then they made rules in my country where you could enter clubs and bars restaurants with a negative test from the last 24 hours so I kinda just went with that, clubs and bars were mostly still closed anyway so we just went to raves and did home drinking so i barely needed it. Never caught covid, untill the last month which was the same month they removed all restrictions in my country. so I just called in sick for 3 days untill my cold was over, never got actualy sick or noticed anything.

we've had 2 primary and one mandatory booster over here, second booster was afaik only for seniors. Flu is optional every year, I can get it through my company on company time. Missed it this year, but got it last year and my flu was so much more mild than my GF's who didn't get the shot. Definitely will be getting the flu shot every year from now on.

The 'act of giving a gift' section's been some of the most insightful talk I've heard from Trash Taste and a group of mates. Concepts of giving back to those who've given us the best moments of our lives in different ways was powerful. As viewers we're no inner circle to Joey, Garnt or Connor but it's cool to think of people they've been on and off camera with and think about our own lives we lead.

The phone/SIM part was so mind blowing to me. Here in Germany you can just buy SIM's with a contract plan at any supermarket like LIDL or ALDI and it will just work on almost any phone. Also every SIM allowes thethering by default and as long as your contract plan has internet volume in it you can just use it.

I had a friend who was struggling, but still gave me gifts every time we met. Though grateful, I always felt burdened and told her not to, but she kept doing it, and so I brought small gifts every time I saw her too. But she would get annoyed and not even address the gifts I gave to her. She hated getting presents herself. I think that's why she started ghosting me after a few times of that lol. It still baffles me though because she always insisted on giving me something, it felt like we weren't on equal terms.

It can be stressful lol but the way Connor tries to understand how other people have different love languages reminds me of myself.

I like SOL because it's very relaxing and it allows me to experience what the mc is experiencing with their friends. I like watching them have fun, go to cafes, and do random stuff. I also like high school sol because school life in Japan is so different from school life in America. I didn't really have friends so hs wasn't exciting for me but through anime, I can see how characters deal with the school system (and uniforms) and what they do for fun. Plus Japanese schools have cultural festivals and my school didn't really have anything like (from my knowledge) that since I'm from America and I really like seeing all the different classrooms and what they do and the drama surrounding that. I love K-on and Yui is my favorite character. I love how despite being the mc she's not a bland dumb clueless character like those in most sol series but instead is hyper and sorta the jokester type while not being the class clown. And I just really like cute characters lol

Don't tell your friends how much the gift was and don't ask or look it up. It shouldn't matter if it was a lot more than what they got you or vice versa. No one should be keeping score. As Connor pointed out, if it's a good fit for that person and you can afford it, that's all that should matter. When they say "it's the thought that counts", that's what it means. Make the effort to give thoughtful gifts. And feeling obligation from receiving a surprise gift is definitely a You Thing. Don't deprive others of the joy they feel in giving you something. Work on receiving graciously and being thankful for other's generosity and kindness. If they're a real friend then they aren't keeping score and "I'm now indebted" is all in your head. If it turns out they ARE keeping score...get new friends bro. At least these guys recognize it's just them projecting on others. Listening to Connor here, I really agree with how he sees it. I feel he's very insightful about different people valuing different things in a friendship. Reminds me of the 5 Love Languages actually. And I'm sorry, but saying "How do I get a gift for someone who can buy themselves anything", is a bit of a cop out. Make something. Find a unique item they would never think to get for themselves. Give an experience. It's not about buying someone something they need or can't afford. This is where being thoughtful comes in. You are 100% a Slice of Life, turn off my brain, Have You On in the Background, kinda show for me. Relaxing.

For me slice of life is this kindhearted, wholesome, easy going story that I can just enjoy and be happy watching. I'm just very content and relaxed when I watch slice of life, it's this breath of fair air away from all the other genre's where everything really bussy, brash and in your face. With slice of life you just get time to chill and take everything in. Cute little interactions, story lines and character moments with the occasional development in story/character.

As someone who also lived in Japan and had the same issue... Amazon Prime bro. I bought an unlocked Sim-free phone on Amazon and their sim card worked on it. Phone shops want to overcharge you for everything and force you to get new contracts every time. And as an added bonus, you won't have that annoying shutter-sound that you legally can't turn off there, because the phone actually came from South Korea. Still no tethering in Japan though.
