Hi Carole! You have been busy. I laughed out loud when you said the white fabric looked like cellulite… and the other looked like a support bandage. 😂 The plate holders are a genius idea. I’ve never thought to warm a plate… I will be trying that at Christmas. The stockings are going to be a treasure. The fabrics are so pretty and the fur and names really set them off. Have a great weekend. ❤ Diann

Hi Diann, hope you are well. Honestly Diann there were no other words to describe that white sweatshirt fabric and I have a roll of tubular bandage in the cupboard exactly like that cuffing, maybe I should use that?! I am shocked you have never warmed plates? Is that not a thing in the USA. I do have a plate warmer thing where you slot in 6 plates in between sort of heated blankets, I wouldn't be without it! I detest cold food as I am such a fusspot 🤣 The stockings have been approved so I need now to get cracking and make them. Hope you have a good weekend too 🍓💗🍓

I've been monogramming towels all week as gifts. Learned (once again) that even though the designs from a certain digitizer are enticing, they don't stitch out well, so ruined a couple of towels. Back to a design from my favorite digitizer and all went well. its always some small challenge but I feel blessed.

Thanks so much for your comment. Well done you on doing lots of towels, they aren't the easiest of things I found out early on. How annoying that you ended up ruining some towels down to errors in the pattern, at least you had another supplier for the images. I think this fur will be tricky but will end up looking nice so worth it. Have a good weekend 🧵😊

I do hope you are right about the stocking. I don't have long to make 5 of them and that embroidery takes time. Thanks so much for watching and I'm so nervous about babysitting her which is crazy isn't it?! I suppose it's because we don't see her that often. My goodness - you have been busy!! Love the stocking - very sophisticated! Re: the ponte. Like Christine said, it does come in different weights, but I’ve learned to read Minerva descriptions VERY carefully before I order from them. Hope you have a great day with your grand-daughter! Xx 💞
@socarole668 күн бұрын
Oh Izzy, why can't my weeks be planned and organised like yours 😂. Sophistication is my Son and Daughter's aim in life believe me so I knew these stockings couldn't be all garish and jazzy 😂. They have approved so now I need to make the 5 they have requested (one for the dog included and a bonus one for another child should they have one 🤣) Although I did purchase that Ponte quickly I always checked for vlogs and pictures for items made by that fabric and it was all dresses. trousers and skirts so I thought it would be ok!! It is also described as heavyweight. This is exactly why I don't like ordering fabric online and I did not have time to get a sample. For the length of time I am wearing it and the fact I am hidden behind a music stand it will be fine. So far so good with my Granddaughter 🤞🏼, she is currently napping! Have a great weekend and go play in the snow ❄️🥰💗

Cellulite and surgical stocking, not something you would expect to hear in a sewing video, too funny. Love the boys sweatshirts they look so cute in them. I think your stocking came out adorable. It is so pretty, love the fur at the top even though I hate sewing with fur. I think you need a sign on your sewing room that says "Santa's workshop" You will do fine with your granddaughter. I was watching my granddaughter all last week while I was in California. We had tons of fun and probably broke all the rules, but you know, grandmas can do that. I returned to Tennessee a couple of days ago and the girls had cleaned the house and put up the tree and decorated it. It looks so festive now. Thanks for sharing about you week and all the lovely pictures at the end.
@socarole668 күн бұрын
No Carol, I suppose you don't expect to hear that in conjunction with sewing! Honestly there was no better way to describe that fabric 😂. The stocking has been approved so when I get back next week I can go ahead with the 5 I need to do, one for the dog has been included! So Granddaughter report so far...lunch eaten and now napping which she is normally very tricky at... been asleep for 50 mins so I am taking this as ...all good so far!! I look after the boys all the time but they are my daughter's kids and somehow that feels different. I don't think I have ever been nervous with them. Grandmas can definitely bend the rules... what happens with Grandparents - stays with the Grandparents 🥰. Have a great weekend and how wonderful your girls had decorated the house for you 🧵😊

Hi Carole, so sorry to hear that your Juki isn‘t back yet. 😢 So many lovely makes. I especially love your top with the black velvet trim. I‘m surprised you didn’t get sneeze attacks with all that fur. I nearly messed up the neckline on my son‘s Tshirt that I’d been sewing at the weekend. I was concentrating so much on positioning the overlock foot, that I didn’t realize that it was not lowered before starting🥹Luckily I could rectify it and looks fine now. He was very pleased with it. Have a good week 🙋♀️👍🧵
@socarole665 күн бұрын
Hi Amanda....well the Juki news is...it is back but they hadn't fix one of the issues 😫. They said to bring it back in but I can't bear doing that until after Christmas now! It is only the cutting mechanism that doesn't work so I can live with that. Oh my goodness you had a lucky escape with your son's neckline! I thought you were going to say it cut into the T shirt...phew! So glad he likes it. That fur is a nightmare and Katinka from Seamstress at the cottage says to wear a mask, she might be right. Thanks for watching and have a good week too 🧵😊

Awesome Carole! I think you have mastered the art of time management. It is taking longer for me to get projects done, so I've axed a couple off my TO DO list and relegated them to birthday gifts. I'm still working on putting together my Christmas wall hanging. I did something very wrong and the self binding mitred corners ended up making a basket instead of a frame. 🤣I have already cut the corner excess off so there is no going back to the mitred corner look. However, after opening the 4 corners it lays flat having cut out squares in each. I will patch in square corners instead of mitres and it will look fine. Thank goodness for easy fixes. In over 50 years of sewing, I haven't mastered mitres. But that being said, I haven't done many to speak of. Enjoy the grand children and the season! 🎄Bernadette
@socarole668 күн бұрын
Hi Bernadette. I will admit I also have scaled back a couple of planned Christmas gift makes because to be honest, they probably wouldn't have appreciated the effort anyway. You got me completely lost on the mitred corners bit... is that where you go round the edges and end up with a line across the corner? I must admit I like the sound of your fix with the square corners anyway. My corners turn out ok but I don't think Izzy would approve of them 😂. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 🧵😊
@SuzySunshine8 күн бұрын
@socarole66 in this method, you sew it from the wrong side, leave an opening to turn it right side out, and voila, a perfectly bound project with neat mitred corners. Have a look at Shabby Chick's tutorial on self binding place mats. Looks easy. LOL

Ha ha I would love to think I will have nothing to do in January but that never happens 🤣. I did jokingly ask my daughter if little Charlie was to have a halo, we shall see! There are so many thatched roofs on properties around us, I have to say though I would never want one, they are a huge fire risk. The different designs are incredible and they cost thousands to rethatch! Thanks so much for watching 🧵😊

Hi Carole, what a week you’ve had! I don’t use ponte, so I can’t comment about that, but when I get fabric that isn’t like the description, I call the company and they usually take care of it in some way. Your Christmas stocking is lovely Carole! That fluff for the cuff is perfect. In my spare time this week I am trying to make my first attempt at The Bestie Bag. OMG! I thought I was doing the right thing by purchasing very heavy duty interfacing-not a good thing indeed. I actually ripped it off of the base. My machine did not like it at all. I have the basic bag together, but now must topstitch that base and do the strap. Wish me luck. I must say I do love the ending of your videos where you show footage of your latest outings. Love that! Happy sewing!🥰

Team underpants sewing 😂. Sorry you didn’t order what you expected for the ribbing. I love their ribbing and have it in so many colors. I use the Minerva Core Range Tubular Ribbing Stretch Knit and really like it. I find it has good stretch and recovery. I use it on all my sweatshirt cuffs, Hudson pants leg cuffs, and t shirt neckbands. Love the stocking. You have been so productive. Ponte comes in different weights. (Obviously 😂) Maybe that black dress you make will turn out to be a happy mistake and be wearable all year round. My machine is still in the shop. Part came in Tuesday so I keep expecting a call. Hope you get yours soon.
@socarole668 күн бұрын
Hi Christine. I slipped up on the ribbing because typical me, I order these things in a rush. I got the tubular by mistake but I will say, it isn't nice at all. I have ordered like you some nicer stuff in the past. The same with the sweatshirt fabric, this was polycotton stuff and you can tell it isn't the best quality but when time is short I have to just bite the bullet. You may well be right about the Ponte, they showed images of others in dresses made from it so I thought it would be ok. For what it is needed for when I am sat behind a music stand, it will be fine. My Juki is home but guess what?! It still has the same issue despite new parts so I am not impressed. The only thing wrong with it now though is that it won't cut the threads so it is more than liveable with until the New Year! Keeping fingers crossed for you. 💗

Did you cut the strips? I hate cutting. I hope you get your Juki soon. Those are very cute plate holders. Not to complicate your gift, but of course you can embroider their initial on each one to personalize the gift. Your top with the trim looks great! Very Christmassy! GREAT job on embroidery on the fur. I'm not brave enough to embroider fur. I will be embroidering some kitchen towels for a Christmas gift. The stocking came out so nice. They will LOVE them!!!! I need to start sewing Christmas gifts! I'm sure you will have fun with your Granddaughter! ENJOY! I'm only putting up minimal decorations in the house this year. I have no time or energy for more. Hi Grace! The milky white cuffing is on the sweatshirts and actually didn't look too bad at all, almost like a design feature! Update re Juki... Katie and I went to get it yesterday, massive hassle and I was so excited to get it home with all new parts and sensors and guess what?! Yep...... it still has the same problem. I was soooooo annoyed!! Bring it back they say 😫😫. It really isn't as easy as that as Salisbury is a major tourist town, medieval with tiny roads and at this time of year packed with coaches. Plus I have to drag my machine on a sack truck across town from the car park, it is a nightmare. I can use the machine so to be honest, I will wait until after Christmas to sort it. 😭. Thanks for the suggestion of initialling the plate holders but as we use them all the time I won't bother with that, embroidering on that fur is going to take all my energy I think! They have approved of the stocking so I will now get cracking on making the 5 I need to 😥. I still treasure the tea towel you gave me, honestly you are the best. Have a fantastic weekend and I am writing this whilst my Granddaughter is napping..YES I got her to nap which is a miracle I am told 👏🏼🥰. xx💗

We get so spoiled with our good machines. I often wonder how people manage to sew properly with lower end machines. I said so before but that top is beautiful. When I take off the water soluble stabilizer on fur or other such fabrics I take a q-tip and wet it with hot water and go around the letters, and then I don’t need to wash the entire thing.

Hello Carole! Lovely vlog as usual! So many pretty makes. For your black dress, are you sure you haven't purchased the newer viscose Ponte? I actually prefer those because there is little to no polyester in them compared to normal Ponte. Polyester makes me sweat under the arms because it just doesn't breath well. If the Orchestra sits under bright lights I would wear black undergarments, but if not, I don't think it's as sheer as you think. I can't wait to see it on you. I have the same pattern but have yet to use it. I also think the stocking is wonderful. Enjoy your time with your son.
@socarole668 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment and you have made me wonder about the Ponte, it is described as Polyester Ponte Roma. It is meant to be dress weight but it certainly isn't like any Ponte I have bought before from them. I have no time to mess around though so will just make it up and yes, as I get extremely stressed when playing the Oboe I will be sweating too!! We only play in a Church so no bright lights luckily. That pattern is such a good one and I have used it many times. Thanks again and have a super weekend 🧵😊

Hi Carole! 😂Cellulite jumper! That is exactly what it looks like. And what’s the deal with Ponte ? I’ve ordered 4 cuts recently and only 2 seem to even feel like ponte….😩The dress will be gorgeous though,I’m sure❤ i’ve also had some stocking troubles -last night I thought I was so smart and I cut out all new heat transfer vinyl names for the stockings, I forgot to click on mirror, so they all were gonna be backwards and I had to throw it away😢-and stockings were not even on my list of things to do😂😂Lovely photos as always! Happy sewing! Xx❤❤

Hi Mary! Honestly I looked at that fabric then looked a my thighs and though...SNAP!!! So, I have ordered Ponte before from Minerva and loved it, they even described this as heavyweight plus there were pictures of people in dresses made from it so I thought it had to be the right stuff. I get so cross with Minerva and their fabrics 😫. Interesting you say you have had similar issues. I did laugh about your stocking error as I nearly did that for these, the names will have to be embroidered upside down. I need a massive note to myself for that when I make the 'good' ones. Like you, stockings did not feature in my plans....good job I never make any 😂. Thanks for watching my friend and have a great weekend 🧵😊xxxx💗
