good causes drunkness and evil causes poison. i get it now. thanks for clarifying it :)
@falsnamae3511Ай бұрын
It is my personal opinion and hill I stand on, that the two are minorly mechanically different: Drunk is arbitrary, but poison should benefit the demon. A drunk can get useful information, for example they can get true information in a vortox demon script (where by default everyone MUST be lied to, it's a fun demon), or just get true information in general, or "more useful" information that they'd even normally get (for example a noble getting all three evils when nobles tend to shoot from the hip at all three of their pings), it is just completely arbitrary, whatever might be fun or cool or funny, while again, in my personal opinion, poison should never, EVER benefit Good, it should ALWAYS benefit the demon, or at least attempt to.

I believe this was one of the best, if not THE best game of the year. Personally, I think that, although nonsensical shenanigans are the funniest way to taunt your players (aka, Pixie-> Philo-> Alchemist-> Boffin-> Tinker kill on Zombuul), nothing will ever compare to the classic "New player's curse": Pull out the demon from the bag, expectedly bluff Saint, fight against that one player who already knows, keep spending dead votes, and unexplaiably destroy the local elections. Y'all somehow did that out of TB and I was surprised by the outcome. Thanks for this and forthcoming laughs on the new year, happy holidays, and remember that empaths aren't real!

59:06 if a Witch were to curse a dead Banshee, this might be a decent play to take some heat off of a demon since it would make that "kill" go through and be an execution that would immediately end the day? If a Vortox game can have dead players be executed to keep the game going, this sounds like an effective strategy too.

A brand new player stumbling over the Sailor character rather than playing TB is certainly A Choice.
@masonderossАй бұрын
I think the issue is that Ben didn't describe the sailor to Bedgar (Zylus did the talking). Ben always describes it as "Read it backwards: You can't die. You also choose a player every night, and one of you becomes drunk. But if you become drunk, and then you can die." but he let Zylus do the talking during the first night and didn't chime in with his re-wording like he would normally. Ben's wording also makes it clear that the drunkenness caused by the sailor is a one night only thing, and hammers in that it is either you or the one other person chosen that night who is drunk (it doesn't linger on past choices). I never realized how important for new players Ben's rephrasing of the Sailor can be until this game. Zylus explained it pretty clearly to me, but didn't do the "read it backwards thing", and apparently that distinction really matters to new players.

@floflofloflo8608Ай бұрын
This isn't true. They had the demon on the block with enough votes more than once, including on final day. All the good team needed to do was not put enough votes to tie (or execute) anyone else. And that was actually very achievable, evil team only had one vote because Nilesy had spent theirs already. Evil team were behind for most of this game, it very much came down to the final vote on the final nomination on the final day. That's as close as you can hope for!
@PriorCrackerАй бұрын
Are you referencing the second game? This video is only the first game, and evil were not guaranteed victory here.
@baydiac21 күн бұрын
@@floflofloflo8608It's as Rythian pointed out a couple of times, but the good team who had the solve committed the classic blunder: it's not about solving the game, it's about convincing everyone else you solved it. Yelling "chaos reigns!" and "fuck it, balls to the walls!" is not the way to earn the trust of the dead vote. The logic game was solved but the social game was not. They did try to explain it calmly at one point, but Daltos being aggro (esp w his shaky 'of course a new player knows how the game works!' logic) and Bedgar being publicly corrected on the rules too many times (not his fault!) meant their word was mud. Everyone was spending so long unpicking what was going on with them and their Lolip tunnel that no one was discussing which demon they thought it was (with so many drunk suspects a lleech was fairly likely, not to mention what happened with the poor mayor!). TL;DR The solve isn't everything if no one believes you, so there's no use wishing any of the good team didn't misuse their votes. It's not like they were ignoring good information because it _sounded_ like bad information.

@ReunionManaАй бұрын
well ben pretty much fell at the first hurdle given his explanation to briony lol, it's baseline a 50/50 to lose. ben figured that the storyteller WOULD drunk the saint, but it's not a guarantee, and that can be figured out partly because saint is not townsfolk--saint is outsider, so even he was reading the wiki wrong... theory is flawed in a lot of ways i think. it would take a storyteller who has ran a LOT of games with sailor and saint in the script to know the math on it.
@kond7664Ай бұрын
@@ReunionMana Ben's theory was pretty out there but it does at least show that just throwing ideas out in a High Priestess game is really helpful since there's a strong chance the storyteller will be compelled to direct them to you if you're actually on the right track.

SPOILERS . . . . . As an experienced player it was PAINFUL watching Mousie (who I think was the 2nd new player, so absolutely no flak their way) not understand that killing the Demon was virtually ALWAYS better than going for a Mayor win there. Sure, it's easy to say whilst spectating and seeing the whole Grim, but if Mousie truly believed that Briony was just a good player, then that only leaves one other player who could be the Demon. Of course, that line of logic goes out the window if Mousie wasn't confident, which I think in the end was the case. Not to mention Ben intentionally stressed them for time because, had good had more time to talk, I think Loli was dead every time. Going for Mayor victory is great when, between the two other choices, you don't know and you don't want to run the 50/50. But if you're as confident as the majority of town was that Briony was just good, then there's no point risking it in case you were drunk/poisoned (EXACTLY like what happened in this game). Like, even outside of this particular game where it may or may not have been the case, I have witnessed (firsthand) multiple Mayors just go for the Mayor victory despite the Demon being dead to rights, and then lose because of weird poison/drunk shenanigans. Mayor is great for stepping around the 50/50. But if the odds are looking more like 75/25, then just go for the execution, man! It can't be drunk or poisoned!
@blunderstruck1Ай бұрын
not only is a mayor win just fun, but there’s an interesting caveat to ur logic for this particular game. no one knew what minion was in play, if it was a DA protecting the Demon, potentially a Vigormortis-killed DA, then the mayor win is the only way to win in that scenario (assuming the mayor wasn’t poisoned like they were here). so yes, executions are also subject to failure lol

There are several things you're missing. The majority of the 7mil subs on the main Yogscast channel were from 2011-2014, from mostly Minecraft content, and from a group that has little overlap with the group in this video. The 10 or so Yogs members here aren't really representative of the Yogs as a whole (they're a BIG group with like 30+ members nowadays), and this BotC game also isn't representative of the kind of content they're mainly known for since it's pretty much new territory for them in the past year or so
