New subscriber here. Absolutely enjoyed this reaction. You two together are really entertaining. I would highly suggest that you two react to The Prayer video by this group. Mitch really really shines through in this song. I promise you will not be disappointed at all. I feel that it is their best cover to date. Other songs to react to are Shallow and The Sound of Silence.

Can't disagree with that in the least! These ladies charmed me to death...witty, talented in their trade, intelligent, spirited and hilarious with amazing sense of humor. What's not to like? And you're both beautiful....inner and outer. I went to get educated a bit about Holly after watching this, and MJ hit it on the head with the suggestion of "more!" PLEASE!! (And two gingers is almost more than I can bear! A personal life-long "thing."

Its not about the singer, its about the song. PTX demonstrates this so well with their use of dynamics. They each get their turn in the light, but they work together flawlessly to elevate the song, not themselves. And your reaction is, as always, genuine, instructive, and fun. Having Holly on was a blast! Did she find that word yet? Merry Christmas to you and Holly and Paul!!

Mitch, Scott and Kirstin have been friends since high school. You can really tell they know exactly what each other are doing and where they're going with/ in a song. It's unmistakable when you listen to all their music. Even the ones when they are very young.

I have often been lost for words, when trying to describe Pentatonix's unique vocals & sound, & I still cannot express, or even come to terms, with what my ears are hearing, most times, but one thing I do know, is that, when I hear their voices, it always takes me to a place, that touches my heart, & can make me feel things, I didn't even know existed!!! To me, that is their gift, & what makes them, not only an amazing group, but incredible artists 💝 **THEY TRULY ARE A RARE GIFT** 💝

The fall at the end into the accidental is very timely placed. I always get goosebumps with how well they blend together. I have done lots of singing since I was 3 and even at 35 I'm still fine tuning my voice to be able to even be a quarter as talented as this group.

Happy Holly-Lolli-days! You two lovely people work together brilliantly! This song has been one of my favorites for a long time, so I’m very picky about how it’s interpreted. PTX has taken this song even beyond any version ever recorded imo. The depth, the layered harmonies, my goodness! Just glorious

I think a big reason they 'share" the spotlight so well is because the 3 of them (Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch) have sung together since their school days. They grew up together in Texas.

What a gift, fitting for the day. These lovely people know how to get out of each other's way. Allow each to shine and not have to be the center of it all. The fact this song (for them) is now years old, and the ability to see the improvement in a recent release it stunning as well. (The Prayer, or Amazing grace for reference)

I've always loved this group. Their ability to just literally bring the music alive is unbelievable... you've probably heard about this already but if you haven't seen how Pentatonix got their big break/start, check out an old American television show called "The Sing Off." They were on season 3 and unfortunately that was the last season but its incredible seeing all of the acapella groups perform and compete. I highly recommend checking the show out!

You two gave such a great reaction! I love when a knowledgeable reactor informs me about technicalities I’ve missed. That elevates your reaction above someone listening to the song even when they appreciate and enjoy it. As you may know, Avi left Pentatonix in 2017 and now has his own solo career. He has just completed a tour, and someone was kind enough to post him singing O Holy Night. It’s definitely worth checking out.

You amaze me every time! You found another woman much like yourself to delight us with your collective chemistry and musical knowledge! I think PTX did an amazing job of this special song, certainly my favourite rendition of it, and you made it more special with your obvious enjoyment, both of Pentatonix ' performance and your introduction of Holly to the group! And of course the technical analysis from both of you. I always learn new things about music from your reactions!🤩

A version of this song I think you will adore. Voctave featuring the original writer of the song Mark Lowry. I love the pentatonix version but there is something very special about the original writer singing it. And for being 62 or so during the recording he holds a note for an insane amount of time, while sitting. You don't need to react to it but please do listen to it on your own time. Take care.

The definitive Voctave version seems to be almost universally ignored in favour of PTX. Would love to know why that is exactly. Anyone who's heard knows that FVM would be utterly blown away by it, as we've all been.
@greattheillusion
@greattheillusion Жыл бұрын
@Lonesome Twin it may just be a case of Pentatonix being more well known. They were in a TV show, and Voctave wasn't kind of a thing. I do feel sorry for people who haven't heard the voctave version yet, and I hope that they do some day. It just makes it really special having Mark Lowry there and that note he holds is so impressive.

"They could do so much more... there is no ego". How true that they all make their own singular performance subservient to the group and the song, and in this way, they serve themselves best. They put their individuality in service to the group, and in doing so they become some of the most respected/honored individuals in the music business. Selflessness does pay off.

Wow, yes, I second the suggestion that you two go through the Sing Off performances. You have great synergy together ❤ and you will find some interesting lessons to comment on about doing covers, how to work as a group, and how to grow and learn as a performer/singer/arranger. The judges on the series were the best set I've seen on a competition show, and I still see PTX applying the lessons learned there in their music today. Plus you are a hoot together, lol.

Their control, and “gentle” way of keeping, or sustaining with zero forcing the dynamic they’re on allows them to increase or decrease at will..and the duet between Avi and Scott, wow..their voices are synergy personified..and the balances aren’t just constant, the subtle in and out of bringing things up and down goes nigh unnoticed by most..

This was so fun, you two work so good together, and Paul is adorable. Since Holly likes Mitch so much the two of you need to listen to Scott (Tall baritone), and Mitch (beautiful voice), have a side channel (they've haven't been able to maintain it recently), but the do a song from the Broadway play, Wicked, name of the song is Defying Gravity. I call the play The Wizard of Ox part 3. THe song is about Elphaba the witch learning to actually fly on a broom, the first with ever to do that. Mitch is Elphaba. They are halfway in costume. They are doing this as a comedy, but you wee how serious they are about their singing, no matter how big a joke it is, they still sing perfectly. That song and the PTX upgrade of The Prayer by Celine Dion, and Adrea Bouchilli, both really show off just what Mitch is capable of. I want to see you both do these.

I think Holly's husband is the first newbie I've ever seen that recognized that their name comes from the pentatonic scale! Usually people either have no clue at all about what its referencing, or they understand that penta means five, and think that's it. I'm sure there are others who just knew, but I'm always shocked by the number of musiciains who don't make the connection. Also....this was a great reaction.
