We countinue or Christmas special this year by reading the second sermon by the catholic mystic Meister Eckhart.
The translation used here is by Maurice O'C Walshe in the volume "The Complete Mysical Works of Meister Eckhart", which is highly recomended.

We must have complete trust in our Heavenly Father. Even as we struggle in life. As I constantly struggle to provide for my two autistic children I keep faith. Faith is all I have. It is truly the only armor against the enemy. As a single mom things are hard on me. My health is not the best I suffered a heart attack two years ago and I’m battling lupus. Every month is a struggle to get by. But as I struggle to pay rent and as I struggle to buy groceries for my children. I keep faith. God lifts me up everyday. Jesus please help me take care of my sons. I trust in you Lord Jesus. ❤❤

Something I have received from Meister Eckhardt's teachings is that ignorance isn't not knowing but rather it's not wanting to know. Thanks for your readings.

Great idea to present the Meister in this way.Thank you for that. When it comes to the sense of eyesight and hearing I must as a mystic and physician that the idea that eye relceives information from án outer world’ is obsolete as regards the fully grown human. The fact is rather that our concepts and ideas are projected to the shapes and light hitting the eye. Space and time are concepts a priori and do not exist independent of consciousness. Therefore in some sense the eyesight is an active projection as the Meister means. I do not have any intention to criticise you but wanted to add this to the discussion.

Hi Filip, thank you for this nice recitation, I really benefitted. Since you have a background in tasawwuf and kalam, wanna ask something: can we say that Meister Eckhart's this interpretation is a reconcilation of wahdat-i wucud and wahdat-i shuhud?

The highest knowing is unknowing, it resembles " the highest technique is having no technique" ( Bruce Lee) . It comes from a deeper place that cannot be learned from others. Discerning with the faculty of the soul the non- existence of good and evil. Do you know the christian mystic writings of Joel s. Goldsmith? He explains these themes very well. Thank you!

First of all I would like to thank you for your work. Your explanation of Eckhart’s sermon is very clarifying. However, I do have a question concerning this sermon. At position 13:43 of the video Meister Eckhart states: No sinner can receive this light, nor is he worthy to, being full of sin and wickedness, which is called 'darkness'. Therefore it says, "The darkness shall neither receive nor comprehend the light". That is because the paths by which the light would enter are choked and obstructed with guile and darkness. You explain this part by saying that according to neoplatonists evil is the absence of God (Being) in the same way that darkness is the absence of light or cold is the absence of heat. So evil, just like darkness doesn't have any kind of existence of its own. It's a lack of being, of God. In the neoplatonic language it's the lacking of the One. Yes, cold is the absence of heat. Therefore, you can pour heat into the cold. Cold can't obstruct heat, because it's lack of heat, not some other 'thing'. For the same reason you can pour light into darkness. Darkness is also not some other 'thing'. Then, why does Eckhart state in his sermon that the paths by which the light would enter are choked and obstructed with guile and darkness? The light could simply pour into the darkness.

I'm curious about this phrase, "according to Meister Eckhart". I can't see how the idea that all phenomena are rooted in Reality is wrong. Surely it's just true, regardless of Meister Eckhart's blessing...?

He speaks of virgin ground and the light within the soul. The things around us are images of who God is. Being is a vapor which is spirit and God is Spirit and spirit mixes with Spirit. He is returning to the primal state found in the Garden of Eden, this virgin ground where man and God is One. All souls whether good or bad come from the Garden of Eden so this virgin ground is common to all. The light comes from the Fountain of Living Water. This "water" is the Light. It is a bubbling spring within which runs over. Evil is here because God works through gratuitous violence as in both Cain and Ishmael. He reconciles the bad to the good through a dynamic between the two in His good pleasure. The free will comes into alignment with God for right becomes known and we wish to do what is right through the light within. Unmerited and abundant favor keeps us with God and in the light. Oneness is the goal of God. Works are of no worth. Unknowing is a state uninfluenced by outward or inward images. He seems to speak of the Beatific Vision where all things are seen in one glimpse. The sword pierces to the separation of soul and spirit. Unknowing knows no preconceptions, no preconceived images. Unknowing is a state of abandon or oblivion reached through meditation. Unknowing is a letting go. It is ego abandonment. Seeing can involve the light of Wisdom which the Third Eye is responsive to so it can be very similar to hearing in it's passivisity. Kabbalah means "to receive.". Just took notes as you spoke and wrote my own interpretation.

Hi Filip, would you mind clarifying something for me? I was told in school that the Quran says something along the lines of "infidels must be killed." However not too long ago a Muslim told me that this is not the correct interpretation of the original Arabic text. What is the origin of this passage and where if anywhere does this passage come up and how is it interpreted in various sects of Islam?

Some of this sounds beautiful, but like with most mystics, it seems like he ties himself into intellectual-sounding knots to explain the howling void and the fact that he believes in a god which he ultimately can't know anything about, piling pseudo-profound assertion upon assertion. Pretty, but empty.

Unfortunately, Christmas is a pagan holiday that has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. You will find confessions of some priests about that in the clip of Sheikh Othman bin Al-Farouq. In the Qur’an, Mary was under the trunk of the palm tree as she gave birth to Jesus, and the palm tree was fruitful, and palm trees do not bear fruit in Palestine and the Arabian Peninsula except in the summer. I think Jesus was born in summer, not winter.

Don't simplify things because you've watched sensationalist polemic videos that confirm your already existing beliefs. The fact that Jesus probably wasn't born on December 25 isn't the hard hitting critique you think it is. In fact, this is well known among Christians and it ultimately doesn't really matter. As for its pagan connections, I suggest you watch Angela's video as well as the video by Religion for Breakfast to get a more nuanced and proper perspective on the topic.
