Here we find a mistake that is often made about salvation according to basic Christian doctrine. Salvation didn't come by way of JESUS' crucifixion...which was a remittance (sacrifice) paid for our sins past, present & future. Salvation came by way of JESUS' resurrection through which we overcame death with HIM. Without the resurrection, the crucifixion of JESUS would have been the same as with all the other crucifixions carried out by the Romans. An analogy is the difference between a fine & a death sentence: the crucifixion paid the fine & the resurrection is a pardon for the death sentence🤔

As someone who rejected Christianity as a teenager on doctrinal grounds, I've since found that the life of Jesus and his teachings makes far greater sense when seen from a non-dualist perspective. The Gospel of Thomas shows this was definitely part of the Early Christian movement

What ARE those secret teachings? They are definitelyh NOT in the devil book. So for those who refuse to seek the true meaning of jesix, well, you are going to have a very difficult time in hell. @@marsinvader9078 We Muslims believe Jesus (peace be upon him) was a messenger of God, not the son of God, or God himself which the Christians say. We believe God revealed a scripture to Jesus called the Injeel, however the Injeel does not exist today because it was corrupted. The Bible is not the Injeel but the Bible may have remnants of truth left over from the Injeel. God then sent us the Qur’an through the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final revelation and message from God, with a promise that God will preserve it and protect it from corruption.

For some people the Bible is the word of God and they are fanatical to the point they wont entertain any dispute. I do not accept Bible literally because it has been doctored so many times. You are not allowed to change main text in. Gita or Quoran. If you read Maimonides' , " Guide to the perplexed" , he clearly says Bible uses symbolic language. It has one meaning on the surface and one meaning on the depth. If you change the text the inner meaning is lost. There is an element of arrogance in christianity, which makes people , particularly young adolescents rebellious. They are looking for some logic and reason whatever they read. There are so much illogical and absurd things in Bible that is unacceptable to any intelligent person. No wonder the churches are not full and number of deists, agnostics and atheists are rising. In England churches bought by hindus and moslems to be converted to temples and mosqes. In Scandinavian counties only 15 to 20 percent people attend churches. This gospel has been a great help for me in understanding that there have always been a lot of different manuscripts and to be able to let go of the idea that the bible itself was divinely inspired. Having watched this video, I feel emboldened to make the conjecture that aside from the theological differences between the Gospel of Thomas versus those of the canonical Gospels, one reason for rejection of the Gospel of Thomas from what evolved into mainstream Christianity is the idea that to know oneself is to know Christ leaves little if any room for mass control. In other words, Catholicism would not have flourished if people were more introspective. Both Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox Christianity were as much about political power, as any government past, present or future. Peter and Paul dictated their way to the masses. From what has been presented in this video, the Gospel of Thomas neither demands such dogmatic devotion, nor encourages others to pursue such blind devotion.

It’s important to understand that the Word of God tells us that due to one’s man sin it was necessary for Jesus to die. Apart from the shedding of blood there is no remission for our sins. While it might be true that the teaching is necessary to follow it as it’s not the teaching alone that saves mankind but His death as sacrifices. His death is key to His resurrection which is key to our eternal Hope. Otherwise He could just left us with the teachings and skipped His sacrifice by death! Salvation comes by His sacrifice is why the thief on the cross who never followed the teaching but inherited salvation. One doesn’t negate the other both are necessary.

Also interested in how far back the Oriental Orthodox Churches go, in securing their own identities and organizations, employing languages like Syriac, Armenian, Gez and Coptic and Arabic. The sheer fact that so many people just accept the gnostic texts without anywhere near enough evidence to validate them shows just how many people refuse to accept the true words of God We have 4 very reliable and very coherent texts that tell a vivid and clear story of Christ, and in these texts we have Thomas refusing to believe Christ was risen so clearly his faith was challenged Then we have these “gnostic” texts without much evidence of their validation and they all often seem to contradict each other in more ways than one. I think what we see is so many people wanting to reject the law of God and the harsh reality of salvation (even though the grace of God is immeasurable) and want to cling to this gnostic idea of oneness with the universe and if you connect to nature hard enough you’ll be able to transcend. Now, if you can give me very clear and precise evidence for these texts to be true, than maybe I’d reconsider them, but all seems like deception if you ask me. The devil uses the truth and twists it to make sound all nice and lovely so you’ll fall into his deception. There’s more than enough evidence to follow when it comes to The Bible’s texts.

I’m not a religious person, but I definitely had a mystical experience/near death experience and this exact knowledge was relayed to me through that experience. I would have no way of knowing any of this information as I have never truly read the Bible or any other gospels. Somehow I was initiated onto this path, and was given access to this knowledge. It’s unfortunate that this gospel is excluded from main stream Christianity. I have no doubt that, if in fact, Jesus were to appear in person, not recognizable to main stream Christians, they would be the first to persecute and execute him. When you try to raise awareness of these teachings, the Bible thumpers come, knocking on your door and attack you. I feel very blessed to have been chosen to receive this knowledge and wisdom, and I do my best to share it with others, even if I am criticized or condemned.

We know the Bible as we have has limited and selected books about Jesus. The collection of books were chosen by the priests gathered in Nicea, 333 AD. Some theologians discourage reading the gnostic gospel saying they are not authentic and dark. However, it's useful and helps understand the Bible, if you read them. Doubting Thomas isn't lesser to other disciples of Jesus. They were all unique individuals.

I find it so fascinating between this gnostic thought, the Upanishadic Advaita (just one interpretation I know, but it’s the trail of thought put emphasis on in the earliest ones IMO - Brihadaranyaka & Chandogya) and Buddhism which all have a sort of metaphysical pantheistic monism with solipsistic elements almost, all came within a similar timeline in human history. I’ve heard a historian call it the ‘Axial age’, a time in human history where humans became especially ‘self aware’ of internalizing truths and delving more into ‘who am I’ kind of questions coupled with questioning existing ethics and leading to to more egoless principles of non-violence, forgiveness, acceptance, etc. You see this in the fact that in ancient India, the sacrificial Vedic rituals were being completely questioned in the Upanishads (Mundaka) and likewise the figure of Christ & New Testament questioned the older order of Leviticus & Deuteronomy Sacrifices & ethics too, very striking similarities. Some people even bring up if psychedelics had a role to play in this sudden self awareness, hmm but I didn’t think so, it’s a bit grasping. Also love Origen, a literary genius.

What's difficult to nail down with scholarly accuracy is the degree to which ideas were 'floating around' from cultures we would have thought developed in relative isolation. Asoka sent Buddhist missionaries as far as Greece and Egypt for instance, although we may hardly detect a trace of its presence from what contemporary literature we may possess.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the notion that Saint Thomas traveled to India and established a Christian community (in the year 52 AD, according to these Christians). While I acknowledge that the Gospel of Thomas may not have been written by the apostle himself, I can't help but wonder if this text was inspired by some teachings of advaita vedanta in southern India.

I find that very unlikely, for several reasons. The idea that Thomas went to India is uncertain in itself, but even then it is a stretch to connect it with Advaita. After all, that particular school of Upanishadic interpretation had not appeared yet at that time. Although what you refer to as "non-dual" themes can certainly be found in the Upanishads themselves, if you interpret them in that way.

@@AwakeAtTheWheel Absolutely. I made the mistake of actually buying it from Amazon and even the way it is written feels like it was intended for children. I guess early Christians were just desperate to fill in the blanks. I guess we are still as well in a way.👍🏻

@@xunqianbaidu6917 I’m not sure how sexy the gospel of Thomas is. I just like that it doesn’t include any of the ridiculous prophecy fulfillments, and instead just focuses on what the man said. To me, that’s the most important thing about him.

Very well presented. I sometimes wonder about the Protestant Reformation and how it may have paralleled the early Christian period when there was no established orthodoxy and varied doctrines proliferated among the early converts. Out of the mainline Protestant churches, sprang smaller churches and one-off non-denominational. This seems to be very similar to how the so-called Gnostic groups sprang up in the period following the Apostolic missions. Orthodoxy had not been firmly established until after Christianity became legal by the Roman authorities and subsequently supported by the emperor. Many of my New Agey friends believed that the Council of Nicaea was held to marginalize the Gnostic groups, but I learned later that this was not correct. The meeting had the effect of marginalizing them, but the real target was a doctrine floated around by one of Orthodoxy's most influential bishops, Arius of Alexandria. Arius's teaching had gained large numbers of converts among the Germanic people who were living North of the Danube at the time. Arianism, not considered to be a Gnostic tradition, became a serious threat within the next century, so the Bishops who crafted the Nicene creed were not off the mark.
