It wasn't about the money actually. They saved money yes, that was a bonus, but the point was to avoid the stress of Christmas and depression of their daughter not being there by giving themselves a treat, a cruise to enjoy just the two of them. Nothing wrong with that.
@tree678710 ай бұрын
I agree 100% and honestly it really bugs me that everybody got so upset at them you know what they can do whatever they want! And the daughter should have giving them more time instead of calling the day they're leaving that's absolutely unacceptable! I would have told her we were going on vacation

This movie is actually based off of a book, and in it, Luther is moved by his neighbors' generosity all on his own. His wife didn't need to bully him into it.

Just wanted to say I love your videos and reactions. You always lift my mood and have a genuine excitement and warmth, so today's intro really resonated with me since this is a depressing time of year for me, and probably many others. Your goal of just wanting to make someone laugh and brighten their day is met every time I re-watch your videos or see a new one has been posted. Keep up the amazing videos and Happy Holidays, truly wish the best for you and yours.

The film is based on John Grisham's book "Skipping Christmas." (The original title is seen in the newspaper article after the tanning salon incident.) The title was changed to avoid confusion with Surviving Christmas (2004). Both movies were holiday comedies released in the same year and both were poorly received by critics. The swimsuits the models are wearing in the advertisement for the cruise the Kranks are taking are the same ones Luther and Nora wear when they go tanning in the mall. When Luther is stuck hanging from his roof, you can see one of the firemen get hit in the face with the ladder. During filming, it was reported that the cast and crew had ingested over 10 pounds of fake snow. Tom Poston's (Father Zabriskie) final film. When the Kranks are watching Vic Frohmeyer through the window, Luther says to Nora, "So you're saying Frohmeyer has a problem with our skipping Christmas? Who's he gonna call?" Dan Aykroyd, who plays Frohmeyer, also starred in Ghostbusters (1984) for which "Who Ya Gonna Call" was a line from the movie's theme song. An additional GB reference comes when Luther asks Vic if he knows anybody at Con Ed - In Ghostbusters II (1989), the Ghostbusters pretend to be from Con Ed to dig a big hole in the middle of the street. Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd had previously starred in Trading Places (1983), My Girl (1991), and My Girl 2 (1994) together. They play neighbors in Christmas With the Kranks rather than love interests as they have in their previous movies. First Christmas movie of Tim Allen's not associated with the Santa Clause trilogy. Frosty the Snowman bears a strong resemblance to the snowman in Jack Frost starring Michael Keaton. Although the Kranks are skipping Christmas and everything to do with it, somehow they manage to have a Christmas wreath on their front door. After the party has already started, the burglar who lies about having kids tries to escape from the upper floor and walks out onto the roof. Tim Allen's character yells "Hey, get down from there!" which is similar to him yelling at Santa Claus on the roof in The Santa Clause (1994). Despite the title, the movie ends before it's Christmas.

One year a single street went all out with lights. We happened upon it by chance. The driveways were lined with those kind of chinese lanterns. Candles in brown grocery bags, plus lights on the houses. It was impressive. Went back the next year, nothing. And it's been nothing for the past few years. Not sure what that was about.

Three names that James can possibly add to the catalogue. 1. Austin Pendleton (Santa/Marty, the umbrella salesman) was also in My Cousin Vinny. 2. Patrick Breen (Aubie) was in Men in Black as Reggie (the driver whose wife is in labor). 3. M. Emmet Walsh (Walt Scheel) was also in Raising Arizona as the ear-bender in the machine shop.

Canceling the Christmas Eve party made sense because it’s expensive & exhausting. On top of decorating they’d have to cook & cleanup afterward all before leaving the next morning. I dislike the ending as the husband, while being a little unreasonable on a few things, was mostly right yet made to seem like the villain by everyone including his wife who agreed with him on 99% of it.

"You forgot the white chocolate!" "They didn't have any." "Did you talk to Rex?" "Who's Rex?" "The butcher." "...as odd as it sounds, I didn't think to ask the butcher where the chocolate was!" Fun Fact: Despite the title, the movie ends before it's Christmas. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: In the novella, the Kranks drive a Lexus. In the film, it appears the Kranks are driving a 1998 model Toyota Camry. Subtle Story Telling Fact: The swimsuits the models are wearing in the advertisement for the cruise the Kranks are taking are the same ones Luther (Tim Allen) and Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis) wear when they go tanning in the mall. Critical Failure Fact: The film is based on Skipping Christmas (2001) by John Grisham. The title was changed to avoid confusion with Surviving Christmas (2004). Both movies were holiday comedies released in the same year and both were poorly received by critics. The consensus is that the movie is too "mean spirited" and the main couple are unsympathetic.

It is a great and funny movie, just don't expect things to end all fair and square. Luther gets totally dumped on for the wrong reasons. It wasn't about money, it was about avoiding depressing time without their child. But once he put so much time and effort into it, everyone turns on him in an instant. Really, the worst character IMO is Blair. She was so self absorbed that only called few days before Xmas still expecting everything, even dropping surprise mate on them like it was no big deal.
