Wednesday comes from the nursery rhyme "Monday's Child" which says the attributes of each child based on the day they were born. Wednesday's name comes from the line in the poem "Wednesday's child is full of woe." For the Addams' that is a good thing.

Lol I love how you just fully embraced this movie. Some people try to pick it apart and it's not meant to be, it's just one of those movies you get lost in and enjoy. I can't do Halloween without watching this one. And yes like others are saying, somehow the second surpassed this one, the way a sequel should.

I have heard psychiatrists and so forth speak VERY favorably of the entire Addams family dynamic - they clearly care for each other, share some interests but also respect each other's differences, and basically accept other people for whoever (or whatever) they are.. And at least one expert describes Gomez's and Morticia's relationship as 'healthily carnal'.

You know, except for all of the painful torture that the family themselves enjoy, but the rest of the civilized world within the realm of _The Addams Family_ multi-verse abhors. Unlike their merely eccentric TV show counterparts, the live action film versions of the Addamses aren't afraid to actually be malicious & kill people, if need be.

So is the bit about Uncle Niknak.
@TherealRNOwwfpooh
@TherealRNOwwfpooh Жыл бұрын
@@HannibalFan52 Except the Uncle Niknak bit in the film was actually lifted from what happened to another Uncle instead in the source material (neither Fester nor Niknak, but someone else entirely). There also tends to be confusion regarding Granny Frump / Grandmama Addams, as neither Gomez nor Morticia actually know whose grandmother she truly is, depending on the version of the family presented. On the 1964 sitcom, the old crone is portrayed by Blossom Rock & is most definitely Gomez's mother (Grandmama Addams), because Morticia's own mother, Hester Frump (Granny Frump), routinely appeared as a recurring character, who was portrayed by none other than The Wicked Witch of the West herself, Margaret Hamilton, in a bit of characterized typecasting following her iconic role as the green witch from the 1939 MGM classic _The Wizard of Oz_ based upon L. Frank Baum's quintessential American fairytale. Comparatively, the live action movies strongly imply that Gomez "accidentally" killed his & Fester's mother (according to the sequel that came out in 1993, Gomez & Fester's mother had previously been a former adult magazine centerfold actress, as indicated by Gomez & Fester ogling their mother's centerfold spread once Fester becomes infatuated with conniving black widow Debbie Jelinsky portrayed by Joan Cusack, who was pretending to be a nanny to 3rd Addams child Pubert [when the character names were first created as the 1964 sitcom was being developed, Pubert had been the original name intended for Wednesday's brother, however censorship standards from the 1960's wouldn't allow such a name to be used on a family sitcom at the time, so Pugsley was invented instead, which is why it took until the '90s movies for Pubert to be utilized as a name for the 3rd Addams child, however subsequent iterations of the creepy clan deliberately omit Pubert, because as Wednesday states in the 1998 sitcom reboot _The All-New Addams Family_ "Well, there were 3 of us, but Pugsley ATE the little one", heretofore suggesting a tiny bit of family cannibalism to explain away Pubert's absence going forward] whilst sending Wednesday & Pugsley off to Camp Chipewa [in the context of the 1993 sequel to the above 1991 film, Camp Chipewa was a summer camp full of posh, elitist, racist, patronizing & overly "privileged young adults", including one Amanda Buckman, Wednesday's snooty blond rival/foil, who was not only the condescending Girl Scout girl from the first _Addams Family_ film, but the actual actress portraying her would later go on to be female vamp Harmony on the popular _Buffy: The Vampire Slayer_ vampire-hunting series] to get them out of the way [The only good that came out of the summer camp experience was the evisceration of the standardized white washing of the Thanksgiving holiday & Wednesday falling for asthmatic Jewish boy Joel Glicker, whom in _The Addams Family Values would essentially be a junior Gomez opposite Wednesday mirroring her mother Morticia] so serial killer Debbie could marry Fester, attempt to kill him -- and repeatedly fail at doing so, because the Addamses are practically unkillable -- and make off with the inherited fortune Fester's meant to own as the eldest between himself & his brother Gomez), so as far as the '90s movies are concerned, the old crone living with the family is actually Morticia's mother (Granny Frump) rather than Gomez's (Grandmama Addams). Similarly, on the 1964 sitcom, Uncle Fester is actually a distant uncle of no discernable background portrayed by former child star Jackie Coogan (who had a clause named after him whereby child actors can be emancipated from abusive guardians, seeing as how his parents had basically milked his talents as a child star & absconded with the money he himself was rightfully earning, hence the creation of the clause in question), whereas in the live-action movies & nearly all other follow-up adaptations since, Uncle Fester is simply Gomez Addams' older brother, who is basically the mad scientist, explosions expert, and comedic oddball of the main family members (forgoing groaning Frankenstein's Monster-like butler Lurch [who, at the least, has the heart of an Addams], sentient helping hand Thing [in the New Yorker single panel strips, The Thing was originally drawn as a leering goblin with matted hair & long arms, however when the 1964 sitcom came to TV, Thing was reduced to an arm in a box & all later versions simply depict Thing as just a disembodied hand decapitated at the wrist], and gibberish-speaking secret agent, noted ladies man & living hairball Cousin Itt [originally spelled with one T, but since spelled with two Ts to differentiate Cousin Itt from the grammatical pronoun or the killer clown Pennywise from the novel-turned-movie _IT_ by horror writer Stephen King], as they, too, often supply the comedy relief of the franchise alongside Uncle Fester).

@@TherealRNOwwfpooh I'm very familiar with the 1960s sitcom. as I grew up watching it, along with 'Wizard of Oz' when it aired every year on television. I'm also very aware of the Coogan Law. Charles Addams artwork was a staple in my house for years, and he even did cover art for an edition of Evelyn Waugh's 'The Loved One'. Stephen King's 'It' was published decades after the sitcom aired, so it had no influence on the spelling of Cousin Itt's name. If you have an issue with the use of the name 'Uncle Niknak' in that sequence, take it up with the scriptwriter instead of lecturing me.
@TherealRNOwwfpooh
@TherealRNOwwfpooh Жыл бұрын
@@patriciagerresheim2500 I don't have issue with the 'Uncle Niknak' scene, I was just saying (and since the New Yorker strips were a staple in your house for years, you'd know this yourself, too) that in the source material, it was neither Uncle Fester nor Uncle Niknak who had the gag of having his winter & summer clothes tossed aside before coming across the bagged body of said uncle himself in a bit of dark, satirical humor. The other stuff I added for clarification, as I didn't know how deep into _The Addams Family_ lore you delved into.
@patriciagerresheim2500
@patriciagerresheim2500 Жыл бұрын
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh Does it really matter that they changed the name? Since i was referencing the scene in the movie, I don't think it does. Scriptwriters often make changes, big and small, to their source material, and it's usually not a big deal. in this case, the scriptwriter probably just liked the sound of the name 'Niknak' better than the original. Not something to inspire a long discourse.

There's an old 19th century English poem that details the characteristics of people born on specific days of the week: Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace. Wednesday's child is full of woe, Thursday's child has far to go. Friday's child is loving and giving, Saturday's child works hard for a living. And the child born on the Sabbath day Is bonny and blithe, good and gay. So, you'll note "Wednesday's child is full of woe" works perfectly for Wednesday Addams.

I used to be in charge of the quarterly financial reporting for this film and the sequel while I worked for Paramount Pictures for ten years. Lady Colyton, Charles Addams’ widow and heir to his fortune, used to call and let me know anytime she was going on vacation, with her contact information “in case I should need to get ahold of her,” which there never was…for any client, really. It was cute, though. She spoke with very proper English accent and grammar, and was very polite. Most of the time when clients called me they were angry and wanted their money early, or more of it, so it was always a pleasant change to engage with her.

Charles Addams was a newspaper cartoonist. His creepy family is still brilliantly, darkly funny. They never had names until the studio approached him for the rights to make the TV show. there have been several iterations of movies and tv shows.The other movie you must watch is the sequel Addam's Family Values most of the main cast returns for the sequel. this movie was a huge hit. After Raul Julia passed in 1994 (three years after this movie), any hopes of of a third sequel were dashed. Instead Addam's Family Reunion was released recasting the entire family with new actors. Tim Curry replaced Gomez. the movie was released direct to video and waspoorly recieved by critics and fans. the addams family was based on the comic strip of the same name that appeared in the new yorker in the 40s and 50s. initially the family had no names but were named once the tv show was developed. in the 60s series Gomez was played by John Astin and Morticia by Carolyn Jones.

You should react to Denise the Menace. Another good one is The little rascals from 1994

Why Wednesday?🤗 It's from a poem: Monday’s child is fair of face Tuesday’s child is full of grace Wednesday’s child is full of woe Thursday’s child has far to go Friday’s child is loving and giving Saturday’s child works hard for his living and the child that is born on the Sabbath day Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

hhaha,,, the girl is called Wednesday Friday Adams... it's from a kids rhyme... Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace, Wednesday's child is full of woe, and so... but Friday makes no sense in this doomfull scheme

Adams Family Values is actually better. Which is rare usually I like the first in the series best.
