What’s cool about this is most of the Grinch’s facial expressions are Jim Carrey and no cgi. There’s a video where Jim does the Grinch expressions without makeup on. Audrey Geisel (Dr Seuss’ widow) wanted Jim to do the Grinch and went to see him on the set of “Man on the Moon” to see if he could do the part. He was so deep in the character of Andy Kauffman that he had to do an impression of himself doing an impression of the Grinch. He almost didn’t do the movie because the makeup & prosthetics were very uncomfortable. He kicked a hole in the wall and said he couldn’t do it so they hired a CIA agent to teach him how to deal with torture. Also as with most his roles he adlibbed a lot of the lines in the film. The young man who played the 8 year old Grinch died 2 years after this was released from surgery complications. The old timekeeper was Ron Howard’s dad, his brother was the Mayor’s assistant and his daughter played a Who. 11:53 the jewel in Martha’s hair is from the tree topper the Grinch made for her. 13:56 figure that was the mayor’s name. 18:23 The Grinch goes back to knock stuff off the table cause it wasn’t supposed to work like it did Jim Carrey was too good at taking the cloth off so he went back and knocked it all off. 26:14 this is making fun of Ron Howard the director. Ron liked it so much he kept it in the film.

Jim Carrey had to have someone from the CIA come in and train him on how to endure torture in order to get through the production, because the prosthetic suit that he had to wear to make him the grinch was so constricting and claustrophobic that it would cause him intense anxiety and panic to be stuck in it for the majority of hours out of the day.

I love the way Jim Carrey sang the iconic song "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" while adding his own comedic elements to it like the hilarious sound effects. And his freak out when the sleigh takes off. "We're going to die!! We're going to die!! I'm going to throw up, and then I'm going to die!! Mommy, tell it to stop!!" Also, I really love how the actress who played Cindy Lou, Taylor Momsen went on to be the front woman and lead singer of a band called The Pretty Reckless. Also, I can sympathize with the Grinch, having been a victim of bullying growing up. I know the feeling of not liking people because of it. Side notes: I would *LOVE* to have Martha May's Santa outfit, her Whobilation gown and her flowing robe. (in my size, of course. There would be a Christmas costume contest that I always loved being apart of as a kid. My costume would always be Cindy Lou who and I always won. My mom would make my hair exactly like Cindy’s hair. It takes hours to make. I had to have tons of braids in my hair and to shape my hair all funny, my mom would put wires inside my braids and shape them.

I seen a deleted seen today on tik tok. When grinch had the mask on in town he uses a fishing pole and candy cane as a hook, and a little who walks up and bites it. Then he reels him in. He was flopping like a fish and it was hilarious. Makes me wonder how many good scenes got cut. **they made a newer version of the cartoon and my niece likes it. I think it was 2020 or so when it came out. Thats not saying much tho cause she likes all the grinch movies.

22:13 My problem with the Whos in this movie is that they all just very soulless and greedy and only care about material stuff (in the book and the original TV special with Boris Karloff, the whos are supposed to be the complete opposite of the grinch, they’re nice, joyful, good hearted, and already know the true meaning of Christmas) I get it that is the point in the movie of them being soulless I get it, but that kind of goes against the point of the book itself. The grinch shouldn't have to be the one who spells the message out for them, *he's the one who's supposed to learn the lesson.* The movie got it so backwards and you honestly side with the grinch in that scene after everything you saw in this film tell me you don't understand why he thinks christmas is so stupid, he's absolutely right.

The sets, costumes, and makeup are incredible in this movie. Jim Carrey really went through hell with the whole makeup process and still delivered an amazing performance. Definitely has flaws, but I appreciate the hell out of this movie for the things it did right. Some great jokes in it too. Funny enough, this movie came out when I was 5 and the Grinch scared the hell out of me when I first saw the trailers lol. But when I finally saw the movie in full, I really liked it. First DVD my family ever bought and I watched the behind the scenes special features constantly.

Music Enthusiast Fact: Taylor Momsen has left acting and is focused on her heavy metal band: The Pretty Reckless What Script Fact: When the Grinch pulls the sheet off of the table, all of the silverware was scripted to fall off. Jim Carrey pulled the sheet off so well that he improvised and went back to push the silverware off. Many of the Grinch's lines were ad-libbed by Jim Carrey. Make-Up Shenanigans Fact: According to Rick Baker, the prosthetic make-up Jim Carrey wore took about two hours to apply and one hour to remove. Jim Carrey revealed in The Graham Norton Show that he felt so confined and uncomfortable in the latex skin that he sought counselling from a CIA agent who taught him torture-resistance techniques. Producer and director Ron Howard was so thankful for Jim Carrey putting up with the uncomfortable hours to apply his make-up that during filming he put on the Grinch suit with full make-up and directed one day with the suit on. Okay, My input on this movie. First of all, It's most of the mayor's fault he wanted the town to hate Grinch even as a child he wanted them to bully him, and then years later down the road, he tried to show up for the holiday event and he is reminded of a day that wasn't good for him, and the mayor knew that it would set him off and make everyone fear him this whole story is more about bullying the grinch then just Christmas, however point 2. But I can also see the Grinch's point of views about the greed and always wanted more and more and every year's gifts do end up in the garbage. So, he's not wrong, the town is sort of a greedy town if you ask me, the way they act, but otherwise this story is mostly about a misunderstood creature who was isolated way too long and because of the bullying he never wanted to go home. SO, he made a new home far away from everyone and only has a dog only. So, that's what I get from this movie, but still good one and the charismas story is nice in the mix of it all.

If you grew up with the Boris Karloff/Dr Seuss cartoon, you'll probably enjoy that better, but this expands on the story, which I like, while maintaining the basis of what made the book and cartoon great. I also like that Anthony Hopkins does the narration in his native Welsh accent. You wouldn't think Hannibal Lecter would be the right choice for this, but he does a great job. And do yourself a favour - don't Google Taylor Momsen, the little girl who plays Cindy Lou Who. You might have nightmares.
