When I first saw this movie, I didn’t realize how crazy the town is in forcing the family to conform and celebrate Christmas. Lol, strangers interfering this much about what another family does in their lives is creepy.

It's actually based on a novel with pretty much the same plot and the conclusion pretty much was "you benefitted a lot from the christmas spirit and you're a dick if you don't participate" even though in the beginning of the novel, it was very clearly described how he was antipathetic to the holidays and the whole hubbub was just tiring, and how little he had to show for the 6000 spent last year (which seems indeed completely insane?) So yeah, it's a case of a somewhat ok adaptation of the spirit of the novel, it's just that the novel's drivel.

My wife and I love this movie and watch it throughout the year. We even bought the book. I always feel bad for Tim Allen's character, Luther. He worked so hard to do something nice for his wife because of their daughter's absence. And at the end it all falls apart and he is completely unappreciated.

Producer: And why is it such a big deal that this family is taking a vacation during a time when people take vacations? Writer: Because Christmas is the most important day of the year and everyone who doesn't participate in it must be ostracized. Producer: Well what about Jewish people? Writer: What the hell's a Jew? This is my guilty pleasure Christmas movie 😅 Every year my fam would vote for which movies to watch on Christmas & I’d always vote for this one as a “joke” so that they didn’t think I actually liked it 😅
