I was blessed many years ago to be friends with two of the Vienna Choir Boys. Terence and Lorin Wey, whose mother Peggy Wey-Ervin taught the younger boys vying for a place in the choir. Terry is now a counter-tenor and Lorin is a tenor. Sadly, their Mom passed away on Sept. 22, 2017. Terry was allowed a rare honor while in the Mozartchor. He was allowed to record 2 solo CDs: Born to Sing & O Holy Night.

Another outstanding choral group. The Choirboys wear uniforms that make them look like cadets in the old Imperial German Navy!
@WillCrump-e5x Жыл бұрын
The white crackerjack top with the navy blue pants is called their "Jubilee" uniform. When the boys graduate the choir, they are allowed to keep the cover (hat) as a souvenir of their time in the choir. Once their voices change and settle into their adult range, they can join the Chorus Vienensis, which is made up exclusively of former choirboys.

Whoa! What a happy and nice gang! Thank you so much for that heavenly experience indeed! Your choire shall prosper forever, so as you can make the world happy..., or a bit happier at least! Warm hugs to every single guy there, and then to the whole angelic gang together! Be always as happy, guys, as I am, when listening to you! I am not religious, but I can't find the words to express what you did to me! :D Thanks again! Keep up the great and diligent work, and enjoy the awesome result! Let me tell the same also in my mother tongue, Hungarian: Hú!

I was once an American boy, and myself and my brothers and I were very productive, boy scouts, altar boys, choir, sports, languages, etc, rising to leaders of industry in the most powerful and industrious country on the earth. There are many, many American boys who are head and shoulders above the European children.
@andymilsten90965 жыл бұрын
Rudolfo Rojas I am so sorry if that hurt your feelings, I was just trying to say that Europe is where all the early music masters lived such as Vivaldi, Handel, Bach, Mozart Haydn, and Beethoven lived, and there are more orchestras and such over there that play on historical instruments, and it’s where you get to see their homes and all that as well! So I’m sorry if I wrote that a little hurt fully I didn’t mean to in any way, shape or form!

Boys' voices are different and more angelic than the girls. Boys won't sing with girls at that age for long anyway.
@ClaudyArfaras7 жыл бұрын
Markus Majurdjic/Roit I know it’s a “tradition” that needs to stop and include girls. It’s never to soon to stop being sexist to little girls and more important to teach them the awful mistake of the past not to include them. Of course they can sing beautifully and will or would make a fabulous addition to any boys choir and far past time you did... Grow up!
@markusmajurdjicroit95507 жыл бұрын
Claudy TheArtist Claudy TheArtist in the States you can change your anyway not existing traditions but we're going to hold on our ones and like Leeta von Bülow answered to you also it's just a huge difference between the voices of boys and girls
@ClaudyArfaras7 жыл бұрын
Leeta von Buelow Absolute and total nonsense! That’s not true and your are wrong to believe what you’ve been conditioned to think. No way a little girl can’t sing as beautifully as any boy... That’s an outrageous discrimination you and the many boys choirs of the world are purely conditioned to believe. Bull, nonsense and bogus! Little girls will make a beautiful and valuable addition to any boys choir and are able to sing just as lovely as any boy. Stop discriminating against girls and learn to include them and teach yourself you have been wrong all along...

Look up the history of Krampus. In folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as "half-goat, half-demon", who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. Krampus is one of the companions of Saint Nicholas in several regions including Austria, Bavaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Tyrol and parts of Northern Italy. The origin of the figure is unclear; some folklorists and anthropologists have postulated it as having pre-Christian origins. It is also to distenguish the balance between "Good and Evil" or in other words to frighten children to be good little Christians. The tradition goes way, way back.
@praisegod37686 жыл бұрын
Aha, that explains why, when I was the Czech Republic, a big, masked, creepy "creature" (some guy in a mask with horns) went around, scaring everyone and hitting them on the backside with a broom! It's probably part of the "watch out and do good" object lesson of the tradition celebration!
