ABOUT CHRISTOPHER CROSS
Christopher Cross burst onto the music scene with his 1979 self-titled debut album produced by Michael Omartian. The lead single “Ride Like The Wind” spent 4 weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was quickly followed up by Cross’ most popular single to date (and first #1 hit) “Sailing”, which later became known as the archetype for the Yacht Rock genre. In 1981, Cross became the first artist in Grammy history to win the “Big Four” most prestigious awards in a single night; Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also “Sailing”), and Best New Artist. Later that year Cross released “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer, Peter Allen, and was the title-theme for the 1981 film “Arthur” starring Dudley Moorre and Liza Minnelli. The song earned Cross his second #1 and the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 1981 Academy Awards. Cross’ sophomore album “Another Page” was released in 1983 and featured the singles “Think of Laura” and “All Right”. Cross has sold over 10M albums worldwide and his songs have been covered and sampled by NSYNC, Puff Daddy, Avant, Shirley Bassey, Dione Warwick, and many more.

Yeah I first listened to Christofer Cross's song in 1980, the song named ' Sailing '. I immediately liked it. I guessed he started with that song in 1979 if I am not mistaken. From then onwards I began to like his songs, especially this one. Thank you for the memories that you had reminded me.

In 1984 I met this girl, Donna…..she was beautiful. We were teenagers, and we dated for the Summer and into the Fall. After that, we just drifted apart. I guess life happens. But I remember she loved Christopher Cross’ song; “ Think of Laura,” and she listened to it all the time. As the years went by, I often thought about where she was, and what kind of life she had. Then….. a few yrs ago, I received a text on Messenger, it was Donna! She searched my name and found me! For hours, we shared stories of the lives, and the fun times we had all those yrs ago. So every time I hear this song, it transports me over a threshold, and back in time, a time of my youth, past friendships, past relationships…..and Donna.

This song takes me back to 1980 right here in High Point NC. Our pastor of 9trs. announced that this would be his Sunday as he was leaving to Washington DC. A few .months kater, choir director left and his famous chour broke up. I started high school in the late summer. Things were never the same again because my godmother got another job in Archdale and I didn't get to see her that much. Anyway, this song reminds me of that time and trying to adjust. Thid is a odd rememberance but profound hiw it came into my life. Im 71 soin and in early 80s I was a misfit. Onr particular night I found myseld arrested & in a cell alone waiting for bail. There was thee ususl tinny speaker high on wall & I lay in a top bunk. I was more into hsrd drugs then music at that time but a song I'd never heard b4 ( turned out to be CCross' "Never Be the Same" ) randomly came on. It goosebumped me, I got as close to speaker as I could, ear to wall for affect of whole song. Fell hard. It wadnt my usual type music, as a child of hippie & loud bands yet this moved me. Not just words but emotion & composition. After securing release this song folkowed me throughout decades & felt as I did 1st time: a song that hit my heart. As I later served a sentence occasionalky itd pop on & Id stop in a halkway frizen until over. Added yrs ago to my Spotify faves and is now playing on my tv. Much older now, not much s misfit but a grandmother yet this song rushes me bk in time and love as much as 2st experience. ❤❤😂🎉

This song entered the Top 40 on October 18, 1980. It got to #2 for 5 weeks from December 6, 1980 to January 3rd, 1981. "Lady" by Kenny Rogers and "(Just Like) Starting Over" by John Lennon prevented this song from getting to #1. It fell to #29 on January 24, 1981 before falling off the Top 40. The major events that happened during this time span was the murder of John Lennon, and Ronald Reagan beginning his 8-year presidential term. The 444 day Iran Hostage Crisis also came to an end. I was a 14-year old freshman at Trevor G. Browne High School (GO BRUINS!) in west Phoenix then. 42 years later, I am 57 this year (2023). What a long, strange trip it's been.

This song is so true - I was a lonely guy at college, never having a real girlfriend in high school. A week after my best friend committed suicide, I returned to college. I was so down on everything and a few days later met this beautiful young lady at a 50s party in her dorm. She was half Italian and half Swiss, tall with dark hair and dark bewitching eyes and just so nice and pleasant to talk to. I wasnt any smooth talker but was so at ease with her we just talked and talked for several hours. We went to a movie and ice cream for our first date the following weekend and I was hooked. We were together nearly every day and unfortunately we grew apart. 46 years later I still think about here nearly every day and as Christopher says in the song "he wonders what would might have been" as do I. Even though this song is sad for me I still love it...I still miss you NB..sorry your marriage didnt work out.
