It's not exactly "live." This was tracked along with "Sailing" for the same episode of Solid Gold at Amigo Studios in Burbank, subsequent to the release of the album. Vocals are overdubs. Engineered and mixed by Chet Himes. These were TV mixes for the songs for accuracy. We didn't have Nicolette Larson for the show...so the record version wouldn't work. We didn't have Jay Graydon on guitar and that was a solo that Chris never worked up exactly as he did with some of the others. On "Sailing" we didn't have a 48 piece orchestra so a basic track was done "live" in the studio with Hank and James once again to represent the live version. The version of "Sailing" on this page has the original record dubbed in. The broadcast version has the TV mix.

@@tb0yp Truth be told I penned the line "Say You'll Be Mine." We were rehearsing in Wichita Falls, Texas at a club on an off day. We were slated to record a second set of demos for Warner in early. 1978. It was around Valentine's Day. Chris was reworking an old Flash song from his past and wanted to start with the chorus like "Hollywood" by Boz Scaggs which we were playing in our cover set. He had the concept of the song and the verses and lead break (subsequently changed by Jay Graydon but played over the same changes). I was eating a box of those Candy Hearts with the valentine messages on them. I looked at one and it said...Be Mine. I piped up..."what about Say you'll be mine?" Chris took it to the bank.

This is surreal to me. I’ve looked for this Solid Gold clip… I’d guess once per month or so… for over 20 years. There are three 6-piece Christopher Cross versions of Say You’ll Be Mine… 2 radio concerts and this Solid Gold track. Each one has a different guitar solo which I think is FASCINATING!!! LOVE THIS!!!

Love it ! Christopher Cross provided the relaxed Soulful soundtrack for my HS Senior year - 1982. Cool Fact - did you know his producer was the legendary Michael Omartian, who did many other Pop & Gospel music greats as well ? Omartian played for Steely Dan along with Jeff Porcaro. Omartian wasnt just producer but top flite keyboardist & composer. Michaels own albums "White Horse / Adam Again" are fabulous pop Rock funk gems in a similar genre. @@toronado455 Michael wrote the string arrangements. The majority of the rest of the arrangements were done before we started working on the recordings, by the band. We brought a very nicely baked cake to the party. Michael's brilliance as a keyboardist and producer and orchestrator, decorated it more wonderfully than we could've ever imagined. He is simply one of the greatest in music history. None better and there isn't a nicer guy in the business.
