christopher was SO out of line for yelling at lorelai like that. are you actually serious? ever since she was a child, it has been hammered into her head by her parents that christopher is the person she should be with. a year before this conversation, he literally PROPOSED to lorelai again. of course she would unconsciously sabotage her relationships after the mixed messages she’s been receiving. she didn’t even blame him whatsoever. this was such a healthy, mature revelation for her to have, and christopher is only mad because she’s decided she’s not going to waste any more time unconsciously pining for someone who has apparently moved on. he wants her to stay hung up on him.

I actually think she was the one giving mixed messages. She just confessed that she's basically always wanted to be with him but she turned him down every time he's expressed that he wanted to be with her. She wouldn't marry him when she got pregnant. She didn't want to raise Rory with him. I don't think he should've yelled at her and I don't think she was trying to hurt him by saying this but it's totally understandable that he would be upset by what she said.

Lorelai is so clueless that she is basically admitting to exactly what Chris had confessed to her a year earlier. Understandably Chris gets emotional cause she told him it was all in his head and he moved on probably because of it. And now she confesses she thought the same all along. Frustrating to be told something like that, especially in a public place

This was a revelation she should have shared with Sookie, a close friend. Not with Christopher.

Here's my take: he's embarrassed and sad to find out that essentially Lorelai's always been in love with him on some level, because he felt the same. But now it's too late, and also now she's moving on. In response to this news Christopher's acting out with anger because he can't accept it.
@JS-mg1mk8 ай бұрын
Well also it was probably hurtful for him to know that she thought of him that way but turned him down so many times. He was the one who wanted to get married when she got pregnant and she said no. She rejected him again the year before when he said he wanted to marry her. He definitely has a lot of blame for not being there for Rory (he was immature for sure) but I think a big reason for that was because Lorelei rejected him. She was fine having and raising his baby but didn't want to marry him and be a family with him. That's a lot for a teenager to deal with.

@@JS-mg1mk Exactly! Everybody hated Chris for this scene. Honestly, looking at it now that I’m older, Loralei was in the wrong here. You don’t tell somebody who has been pining for you for 15 years, that she always had him as a possibility and unconsciously sabotaging her relationships because of him, especially now that he is settled down. That’s literally the “now that your happy, I want you back.”

I'm with Christopher on this one. All Lorelei needed to do was tell Christopher she was happy for him, and stop talking. Instead her narcissism got the upper hand with her version of the Emily Gilmore rant. I never realized, at the time Gilmore Girls was on the air, what a narcissist Lorelei was. But, now, upon revising it, it comes through like a runaway locomotive.

Emily that is not fair, she reminds me of my mother, so negative and always bringing up the past.

Lorelai's mixed feelings and putting them on Christopher make her very conniving. The way she spoke could go either way: Lorelai regretted Christopher was with Sherry when she never actually wanted him while he was single, or Lorelai thanked him for moving on so that she could finally entertain the possibility of a lifelong companionship with another individual without guilt when Christopher was never the reason she couldn't have fulfilling relationships, Luke was. Poor Christopher. Whether it was Emily's influence or not, Christopher always had more to lose as Rory's baby daddy, tolerating tantrums from the Gilmores if he actually found a constant and settled with her, as opposed to Lorelai, who could date anyone but him because he still had to "get his life together". Even when he could take Lorelai's responsibility, he became her rebound from Luke and eventually had to cut her loose. It was never about him.
