This interview conducted by Christopher Guest is remarkable. I swear he gets in half the words that Charlie Rose does.

I agree. Shut up, Charlie, and let your guest talk once in a while.

The funniest thing is that Chris Guest parodied this interview in "For Your Consideration" -- same set, table with black background, and an interviewer that asked such long questions that the interviewee could never respond.

The treatment of the water glass very early on is an indicator that Christopher is boss. A natural wit to be sure.

Love his facial expressions. When he's trying to take a sip of water at 0:58 but is waiting for Rose to finish his sentence. By 1:05 it's like he's thinking "Suuree am thirsty..." 😄

My second watch of this and Charlie Rose is such a tool. There's a point where CG gives an audible sigh when Rose keeps prattling on and not letting him answer. Priceless.

This entire interview is a Christopher Guest scene in it self... He's talking advantage of the already pretentious nature of the "artist interview" and playing off the delusional ego of the interviewer. He's fucking brilliant at everything.

@@nyshoefly Its pretty clear Guest holds Rose in contempt. CR was the worst, most pretentious & annoying interviewer in recent history. Among other things...
@nyshoefly5 ай бұрын
@@RileyRampant not clear at all. I think you are misreading based on who you think C. Guest is. CR was one of the best interviewers minus his propensity to interrupt. Otherwise he was always well versed on his guests and their work. I watched him for 10 years plus (before he decided to let the dragon loose) and thoroughly enjoyed his show, as did millions of others around the globe.
@nyshoefly5 ай бұрын
@@RileyRampant also forgot to mention that if you watch other Guest interviews, you'll see that he acts this way in every single interview. It has nothing to do with CR.

@@nyshoefly Rose was an idiot, a dim-witted pompous endlessly nattering nabob. You didn't pick up on that. Which is totally cool, many didn't - You must have been flabbergasted when it came out that he'd been creeping on young women for decades. :) I've seen many CG interviews, btw. He was obviously bugged by this guy - this is my assessment, which you seem to be taking great pains to quibble with me concerning. You are entitled to your assessment, and so am I to mine. CG was mocking him with the glass of water - that was a great bit. :) You can now tell me how wrong or ignorant I am again, have the last word, be my guest.

I think the problem is that most of what he says he 'looks for' at 11:36 is stuff that the interviewer largely doesn't have. Christopher Guest is brilliant! Sadly the interviewer is not.

Not sure why people think this was a bad interview. Rose has a conversational style of interviewing but he did make the same mistake other interviewers have made about Guest - that he’s up for laughs and cutting up. Guest appears to enjoy trapping interviewers by being morose and drab; a bit of a gotcha game of “don’t act like you what I’m all about or I’ll try to embarrass you.”
