Languages evolve over time, and different dialects develop in the same language. Pronouncing 'ask' like 'axe' is a development which is largely (though not exclusively) part of some (though not all) African American dialects of English. Some people say 'root' for route; Newcastlers say 'war' when they mean 'our'. English is an enormous language with many dialects. Get the fuck over it.

FAVORITE PART- 21:50 OverZealous/Incoherent Guy: “In particular, this question is for Chris. One of the big problems in the twenty first century, for the American people, is that issue of fear. Now, when you’re sitting at a table, I believe in God, alright, and there are many people who are Atheists who are my friends, I-uh, forget the pun, I can break bread with them. But, the issue here today is, why, if you’re going to make policy in the Middle East, one of the biggest components of that, are religious leaders, and yet here today, you are saying let’s use these belligerent words, let’s use capricious words, and say this is the way it has to be written. How do you respond to that?” Hitchens: “I don’t understand a blind word you are saying.” HAHAHAHAHAHA! What??? And, yes, that is WORD for WORD. lol...

I think what he was getting at, though it was worded as total jargon, was why Christopher was deliberately using 'capricious' language to attack faith, when faith is essential to the peace process in the middle east due to how widely practiced Islam is in Iraq, Syria, etc.
@louiegallo1289
@louiegallo1289 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewmccloud8581 Faith is essential to the peace process? I beg to differ. Faith seems to be the root cause of the turmoil in the Middle East for centuries. Also, the guy's question is still nonsensical.

Sharpton says he believes unquestionably. Once someone says that then the debate is over, because if someone believes in something without question then they have forfeited all reason and anything they say on the matter cannot be taken seriously.
@mbgrafix
@mbgrafix 10 жыл бұрын
Tom, do you unquestionably believe in gravity? If so "you have forfeited all reason and and anything you say on the matter cannot be taken seriously". However, I've got news for you...whether you believe in gravity or not, if you jump off of a high cliff, you will fall either way (and possibly meet God when you finish falling)!
@EgoSumSimia
@EgoSumSimia 10 жыл бұрын
Mike Bennett I question everything, Mike. I take it as fact that gravity exists because of the consistent presence of the phenomenon but that isn't to say that that our explanation of it is completely understood or beyond questioning. Gravity is thought to be caused by gravitons, hypothetical elementary particles. While the mathematics of the hypothesis works out, we currently have no way of testing whether or not gravitons actually exist. "Unquestionably" just means beyond dispute and once you have closed off any other possibilities in your mind then any new evidence, no matter how convincing, becomes meaningless. I cannot fault people for making assumptions, people make assumptions all the time- we have to in order to function, but unless you are open to questions about those assumptions then you will never know the truth of them.

Mike Bennett Mike, circular arguments are ridiculous. Come on, don't you Beliebers know you can't do that anymore? That, as well as Pascal's Wager, are not valid arguments anymore, so stop using them.
@UltraAporia

Mike Bennett You can't "believe" in gravity. Gravity is merely the label we attach to the phenomenon of bodies of mass attracting one another. In other words, gravity is evident.

sebastianmagnus Yeah, it's certainly just spits back to me all the shit I've already seen which is pointless. Reinforces the need to connect with other people. Chances are there are a million things you've seen which I haven't and vise versa which either of us may find of use. I remember a time when it was hard work to find new information and that the only way to do it was to ask people and socialize. However I believe this is less the age of information since there's too much of it and more the age of recommendation where people recommend information that is pertinent to the discussions at hand. Another thing too is that since Hitchens has passed, there is no new material coming out.

There is so much disinfo in this video, that I have to stop it and sort it all out. Slimeball is at his best. The first hurdle: "the two things we are taught not to bring up in polite company". That lie is old enough to have become a social meme (which it is now). Back when we were rugged individualists we didn't worry about what was trendy, rather what was appropriate; we didn't make it a rule, it was mature judgment.

matthews: "which people are talking to the right god?" sharpton: "I think you are bear fruits; I think you look at the fruits of what happens and you see what happens, the problem is not that we are all talking to the same god..." Is this guy serious? that was his answer to a simple question before he repeats matthew's question at 19:45.... that is a direct quote to matthew's question of how do you know your God is the real God, Sharpton's answer is "I think you are bear fruits, I think you look at the fruits of what happens and you see what happens." and then he repeats matthew's original question b/c he knows he's drowning in his own BS... it's at 19:45 - 19:58... Let me just repeat the Reverand's answer in his own words to the question posed by Matthew's which at it's core means Reverand Al how do you know your religion IS the real faith, the authentic pipeline to God, the big guy in the sky, the main man, the CEO, and his F***ing answer is and I quote: "I think you are bear fruits; I think you look at the fruits of what happens and you see what happens..." I must admit that is a profound piece of philosophy from a man who will be remembered for literally days after he passes, I may get that tattooed on my back or arm or maybe my manhood so I don't ever forget it. In fact, let me repeat it so we can all enjoy it again: Matthew's: "which people are talking to the right God?" Sharpton: "I think you are bear fruits; I think you look at the fruits of what happens and you see what happens." Man that goes down smooth, that type of high powered intellect isn't on display everyday folks. What I wanna know is how did this guy get on TV and who is the person who decided to put him there. I'd like to know b/c the type of mind that realized Al's nuggets of wisdom needed to be shared w/ us all needs to be applauded as well.... Whoever you are, the exec at msnbc, thank you is all I can really say, Thank you from us all in the American public.... every person who listened to that exchange is now dumber for it, thank you again :)

SHA8UTIE Not really, if you have any common sense, you understand when one says always in such a context, one does not imply the absolute idea of the word. Its like truth. What is truth? Is truth not absolute certainty? Absoluteness? Such a thing doesnt exist, we still use the word to describe things of such a high frequency that any lesser term would do it no justice. Straw man point.
@SHA8UTIE
@SHA8UTIE 9 жыл бұрын
Tom Baddeley I understand that people speak that way. I am saying that it is not the proper way to speak. Saying "all" should mean "all" and saying "always" should mean always. There are plenty of other ways to make his point without being inaccurate.

SHA8UTIE You don't understand what I'm getting at here clearly. Always is a term to describe an absolute. Absolutes don't exist. Language categorises an infinite spectrum of relativity into words and phrases, trying to make sense out of things, when they in themselves cannot be nearly accurate. They are unreliable. For one to say always in such a way, is to rely upon the prejudgement that the audience one is addressing understands what is meant. Thats the whole point of language. What certain mouth noises mean, is dependent totally upon what the audience perceives the mouth noises as being. This is an acceptable use of the word in our society. Theres no need to pick on people for not believing in the absolute nature of words, that they somehow imply themselves as something other than their own theoretical entities. That there are some kind of laws governing the wrongful use of language. He intended to exaggerate how many religious people drown out discussion by using an extreme word, for effect of course as is appropriate in our culture to convey his point.

Timmy Smith is headed to hell right now being punished for all of eternity. He chose to turn away from the one and true God, Allah. Praise Mohammed and accept Him into your heart. All of you better repent while you still have the chance. ...Alternatively, dismiss this comment - and Timmy Smith's - as evangelical jibberish ;)

Other than the fact that he liked to tout his book and strike at any opportunity to speak on the subject, I never understood why Hitchens took time to debate Sharpton multiple times. The fact that his title is "former presidential candidate" makes me face-palm for the nation and wonder if we get exactly what we deserve from politicians.

19:38 - Sharptonism 101 Sharpton: "No, I think there is one God. I don't think we are all talking to the same person. Obviously. Well, I think, I think, I think, the way I honestly believe, no jokes(es), I think that you are bare fruits. I think you look at the fruits of what happens, and you see what happens. The problem is not all of us talking to different gods, the problem is different gods talking back. I think some of us have gods, that are not the god, and based on some other kinds of things, which are hooked to dogma and denomination thing. "

Sharpton was being dishonest in his attempt to praise god and reject the very religion that tells him to praise god. He tried to have us believe that he actually sees a separation between the two. If that were true, he wouldn't be a minister of any religious sect.
