@@Bergen98 That's interesting. It might be because my view of the emperor is tainted by how much of a weak puppet he came across as in the Brian Herbert prequels, but Charles Dance just comes across entirely too calculating and intrinsically self-assured and powerful for that role.
@JPLOWMAN210 ай бұрын
I don’t know about the prequels because I haven’t read them, so I don’t know if he really was a puppet dictator, but personally I always saw the Emperor setting up the fall of House Atreides behind the scenes as a political coup. Duke Leto supposedly had ambitions to become Emperor himself, and he was making waves in the Landsraad by calling out House Harkonnen’s rule of Arrakis, both of which potentially threatened the Emperor’s own power. By giving Leto rulership of Arrakis and forcing his house to relocate there, he purposely put the Atreides in a vulnerable position while they were still fortifying their foothold on the planet, giving the Harkonnens an opportunity to launch a sneak attack against them. And with his own elite troops disguised as Harkonnen troops on site to make sure the job was done right, he could eliminate a powerful rival while at the same time maintaining deniability of his own involvement by passing it off as a feud between the houses. Really brilliant plan as long as you can ensure there’s no evidence of his involvement.

As I think you know the line in the song "Walk with rhythm and you'll attract the worm" is clearly a warning on how to avoid Christopher Walken showing up in your house encased in a giant green polka dotted tube sock.
