I'd like to point out that I had a GED, scored barely passing on the asvab yet my GT score was 105, I served 8 yrs as a 67T reclassified 15T Combat Arms Support Blackhawk repairman and I also crew chief on the Blackhawk. I ripped after my initial contract of 6 yrs and did 2 more yrs to complete my total commitment to the Army so I would not have any inactive or ready reserve. I'm now 60 % service connected disabled. I forgot to mention I was in from Fed 2000-Apr 2008. Basic was B Co 2/47 at Ft. Benning

My timeline went like this 2014: I enlisted as a reservist 2015: Graduated High school, basic and Ait 2015-2017: made the step to active then served in fort hood, promoted to sgt 2017-2020: pcsd to South Korea for a year. I was in my prime as a soldier when I got to this point I was killing it 2021-2022: my downfall years…fort Stewart, decided to get out after a really really bad ntc rotation and getting sick of what my unit was doing to me mentally now I’m back as a part timer in the national guard working insulation jobs just trying to find my place in life I like to call it the rise and fall of SGT Hendrickson

my last night as a civilian I spent the night in a hotel with the rest of the guys who was going to basic training the next day. They woke us up at 6 am had breakfast after that we loaded up on buses and they took us to the induction center to get our orders and our plane tickets and after that loaded back on the bus again and it took us to the airport. This was on a Friday we didn't get to Lawton, OK till Saturday afternoon with all of the miss flights. From there a shuttle service tookus from the airport to the reception station at Fort Sill and that where it all begins.

Another interest process...when I was halfway through college, I submitted a WOFT ("High school to flight school") packet with the National Guard. Was a weird mix of both. Started directly with a dedicated warrant officer recruiter, taking appropriate tests, while simultaneously also dealing with a local enlisted recruiter for ASVAB and traditional paperwork. MOS would've been 09W, with a normal departure and basic training process. I believe it comes with an automatic promotion to E5 or E6 but without formal NCO status. Unfortunately the local recruitment command reneged on letting people ship out as 09W and it never happened, but is cool to know about since I think it's talked about less

Yea good advice. I would say go with the best job that requires the highest asvab score you can get, then start working your way down to a job that 1. Pays good and 2. Is in demand in the private sector when you get out. Also make sure whatever training and accreditations you pick up in service transfer to the private sector and dont require additional years of college, unless of course you dont mind that and plan to use the GI bill to fulfill that.

Retirement: Typically 20 years or more of service, unless retiring under a special, temporary authority like 15-19 year retirement or medical retirement at any time after entry level (180 days or more of service). Comes with a pension and benefits (medical, commissary, BX, etc.) and veterans benefits. Veteran: Has served beyond the entry level (180 days or more of service) but under 20 years. Receives veterans benefits. Both retirement and veteran categories can receive veterans disability benefits, where/when eligible. Recent changes in law have also enabled veterans to access and use base facilities (commissary, BX, etc.). I don't recall if it is related to disability level or not. I believe all veterans can now use the online BX.

Hey!! Loving your videos! I do have a quick question. I enlisted in the National Guard as a 68w. I’ve been out of AIT for 2 months now and been to drill twice already. However, I sort of regret joining the Guard and want to do active. I feel like Active is more for me. I am taking advantage of the GI Bill (going back to college next month).. What is the process to switch over if possible? Thank you so much What would you think is best for me? Try to go active now or maybe do ROTC and go active as an officer?
@last7116
@last7116 5 жыл бұрын
Steven Mena You need your command to sign off on a Conditional Release for you to go Active Duty. How long until you’re IRR? They very well may not sign off until then unless they’re over strength on Medics or something. They put you through basic and AIT and they’re expecting you to serve - it’s different funding between the big army and the guard so even if you going active is “net gain for the military” they still might not wanna let you go, but when you’re IRR the chances improve. Anyway if it’s what you wanna do get the paperwork started ASAP because this process takes a long time even if your command is on board with releasing you. Edit: However, like you said, you definitely might want to put some thought in to staying in the Guard and finishing your education before going active in order to earn a commission. Learn about what it’s like to be an officer and how that differs from the enlisted lifestyle. Some people that are qualified to be officers still choose not to be.
@christopherchaos
@christopherchaos 5 жыл бұрын
You would need to talk to your leadership about moving to active. From what I understand it can sometimes be difficult because they have to release you from your unit to active and some are strict on that and will make you wait till the end of your contract to re-enlist for it.

question..what separates the army from the air force? i mean opportunities that'd make anyone go for army over air force
@thechillmaster5836

I picked the army over the air force because i wanted to do army shit and have job guarantee. Air force is great if you value quality of life and wanna be as close to a civilian job as possible and not shoot guns or anything. I love the schools the army offers and hope i can go to some of them. Plus, i just wanted to be a soldier. Not a Airman

@@macburger5026 well another thing is the air force doesn't give people attention. Yea they're not in need like the army but still. So many people choose another branch just due to the fact that the air force recruiters don't give a damn unless you have a degree or "fight" to talk to them. Thats a secondary reason why i joined the army.

@@macburger5026 dude i seen some idiots that got accepted into the air force..u just gotta be lucky wit a recruiter. each recruiter has their own standard of asvab and even then if u pass they might not call u. i dont get why u hate on the army so much like why would u join a branch u don't respect? u coulda joined the navy at least. i hear navy guys hate their lives too. i got a friend that is tired of chippin paint all day. some other dude told me the food wasnt all that great. i kno what ur gonna say oh but u get to go to some cool ports well some people dont like being on a ship in tight quarters surround by men for 8 months. i wanna join the army to get a real military experience and do what others dont wanna do. immature people are everywhere u go.. every point u made sounds to me like u couldnt cut it in the army and u had a hard time adjusting to army life.

@@macburger5026 the point of the military is to serve and prepare you for war. If u wanna stay at 5 star hotels and with AC and have your own bedroom and cable along with a tv that's what the chair force is for. Listen we all got preferences on what we want to get out of the military. I hope to become an avionic mechanic. A lot of people's experiences differ depending on their MOS. Couple of buds of mine got stationed on air force bases. If you're infantry expect to be out in the field. I am fully aware we do more physical work than other branches and pretty soon our PT test will change. That still ain't stoppin me from joining.

So do soldiers have to get new gear for each new PCS or can they bring the gear from the previous PCS?
@christopherchaos
@christopherchaos Ай бұрын
They will usually keep it when it's issued at your first duty station and take it with you to each location after that. It use to be that you turned it in before you did a PCS but they don't do it that way anymore.
