There are some things that soldiers serving in the Army can not do. Some of these sound crazy but I'm here to explain some of the many things that soldier can't do while serving in the Army.

I'm pretty sure my dad (RIP) who was a SFC in Fort Hood at some point was probably allowed to walk on the grass because.. He (and is team) was the f***g groundskeeper - Yeah.. There are people in the Army that have to tend to that nice green grass and pretty flower beds and all that, so eventually, they are going to have to walk on it at some point as part of their duty - but I guess it's that exception to the rule ! I believe that he was in the Army Corps of Engineers at that point - so his job was laying pipes, counting broken windows and tending grass and flower beds ! So some soldier mowing the grass is probably allowed to walk on the grass (it kinda comes with the job !) and would probably flabbergasted seeing someone walking on that freshly mowed lawn !

My son graduated bootcamp at Fort Jackson September 23, 2021. He left for bootcamp July 12, 2021. It's a nice base, although you won't see most of it. It's hot down there, stay strong and just keep swimming. He told me the worst part of basic is living in the bay with 60 other guys and dealing with other trainees. He also said the Army motto of, "hurry up and wait" holds very true. Expect them to keep you awake for the 1st 24 hours at reception, they want everyone extra tired and on the same schedule. They don't shark attack you anymore. They also don't teach hand to hand combat. Take a pad lock with you for your locker, stamps, envelops and paper/pen with addresses, and make sure friends and family write you a lot, and send care packages. Toilet paper, red river military socks, family pictures, extra underware, soap, shampoo, razor, and cough drops were big comonaties with trainees (maybe sunscreen, chap stick, bug spary, icy hot a good idea too). Good luck!

Not military, the one that I was surprised was not mentioned is, the no hands in pockets. Then the one I find myself doing I never go outside without a hat on but would never ware one inside it comes off going through the doorway. On post , when walking, if a vehicle is flying a general officer flag, you have to salute as it drives by you. Ft.Sill. DO NOT BRING PERSONAL OWNED WEAPONS OR UNAUTHORISED WEAPONS on FTX or deployment! Unless special permission is granted. This is not same as weapons and equipment that you signed for and are responsible for, that are unique to you (like a zeroed scope). Too often soldier brought unauthorized blades in their kit. Same rule for ammunition. No pogey bait (illegal food). This is grey area, and everyone does it. Especially officers. DO NOT SALUTE in the field FTX or deployment, especially on 2way rifle range. #1 Rule: Always be on correct time, at correct place, in correct uniform, with correct gear. Top's pack list is your pack list unless instructed otherwise.

Sign in a city--"Sailors and dogs keep off the grass." It used to be common courtesy to stay on the sidewalk. Walking on a unit crest is another "common courtesy" issue--don't tread on the unit's symbol because that's stomping on the unit. Civilians are a lower form of life and cannot be expected to know better.

Tipcally if national guard or reserve are deployed stateside, they will not likely be on a "base". Usually in temporary type of housing not on a base. For example, NG deployed to the US southern border are in trailers or hotels. If they are deployed to an emergency then they will also not be on a base.
