Just bought and tested that lens following your recommendations and it is absolutely brilliant. Hard to imagine i ever could do without. One slight issue for videomakers is the stabilizer which is rock solid but skips every few seconds to reset. Not an issue for photography but only to be used on a tripod for video work. Still, truly awesome lens for the price.

I have used this on both my 7100, and my 750 (Nikon). After the normal calibration on both cameras, this lens is superb, with the emphasis on SUPERB! The VC (vibration control/compensation) is beyond anything on the market.I use it for events (low light and ample, without flash, portraits, wildlife, street photography, and landscapes. Tamron has set the benchmark for all other makers. Tamron should be in your bag.

Why are you saying you think my copy was defective? Your comment isn't clear. Because it missed AF a little at 300mm? Well, I'm not the only reviewer to have found some minor AF issues - Bryan over at the-digital-picture also did. It could be a slight fault in the lens, but even if it is, Tamron should take better care on quality control.

I'm a Canon and MFT (Olympus/Panasonic) user, I bought this lens to have a smaller option when "Canoning" and to replace my very good but heavy 24-105 f/4L and 300mm F/2.8 L. I also use my Canon EF lenses on my MFT cameras with an AF adapter with fantastic results but when Canon, the body+lenses+battery grip is close to 6kg, too heavy to carry all day long. I bought this Tamron and his little brother 17-50mm 2.8 and it reduced the weight nearly by 2. The picture qualities of both lenses are not as good as the L but still great and the confort of use is amazing. VC on Tamron out performs the Canon IS, but my L are MKI, may be better on MKII but the Tamron is perfect, especially compared to the Sigma OS that's just OK. On top of that, the Tamron is a 140-600 on MFT, what's great. It's sad to say but I let my L lenses sleep in my bag and use exclusively the Tamron as the ratio quality-versatility-portability is really excellent even compare to L lenses and for a fraction of the cost.

Had this lens, and returned to Canon 55-250 STM which is of similar quality, a lot cheaper, and LIGHTER, turned out that I never have it with me because of it's weight. Hi Christopher, Thank you for reviewing this lens. You've done an awesome job. Based partly on your review, I decided to get this lens for my Nikon D7200. However, unfortunately I'm a little disappointed with the image quality. I would like to know if the zoom in on your test stills in this video is to 100 procent or more? When viewing my images in 200 per cent (2:1) in Lightroom, they are not that sharp. Images taken with my 18-140 3.5-5.6 VR DX lens seem sharper and more punchy. Thank you and good job.

nicolaidenmark I zoom in a little bit past 100% for these pictures. The D7200 is a 24mp camera, whereas the Canon 60D used in this video is only 18mp, so that's probably the issue - your camera's sensor is more demanding.

I had one on my Sony A580, so when I upgraded to a Canon 5D mk2 I bought another. However the 5D is full frame and there's a problem. It's very soft around the edges at 300mm, even at F11 on the tripod! The reason is simple, full frame cameras looks at a greater surface area of the glass elements. A cropped sensor doesn't see these weak areas, so they're not an issue in the same way. Lesson - be careful when buying for full-frame... you may need to spend a lot to sort the problem.

Dear Christopher, I bought a 6D about a month ago. I consider buying a 70-300mm tele-zoom lens. I also watched your Canon 70-300 review. I watched your other reviews as well. (Actually I watched most of your reviews. They are all great.) My question is as the following; Ok, the EF 70-300mm L is approximately 4 times more expensive than both Canon and Tamron 70-300 lens. However I found out that there is also Canon 70-300mm DO lens. (The Diffractive Optics lens.) Although it is 2-2,5 times more than Tamron 70-300, it is absolutely cheaper than Canon 70-300mm L lens. Besides it is lighter than L lens in weight and it is almost in the size and weight of Tamron. Is it possible for you to have one of your high-quality reviews on Canon 70-300mm DO lens? There is no serious review on the internet. (Believe me I have dug out many websites and found no serious review about this DO lens.) Upon your review, I actually intend to make my decision on Tamron 30-700 or Canon 70-300 DO. Thank you in advance.

well I ended up buying the ef-s 55-250mm is stm, went to a local store and had the oportunity to try both. My reasons were: - I don't really need the extra 50mm at the end (doesn't seem that significant). - 70mm it's just a little bit too long to start out IMO. - It's double the weight, you really do feel it. - It compliments well my 18-55 is stm (I may be picking up the 10-18 next). - I don't really see myself going for full frame at all so the 70-300 seems to have more downsides for me. Althought if you think you may upgrade later on, you can still use the 70-300, you're out of luck with the 55-250. Hope this helped somehow.

Ah forgot to say that the focusing system of the 55-250 was considerably better than the 70-300, at least on my 700D/T5i. The 70-300 would hunt quite a bit.

Hi Chris, keep up the great work with these reviews. Just wondering if you will get chance to review 70-200 2.8 tamron with vc, I am very keen to see if you would rate this as it would be £1000 saving on the canon 70-200 2.8 is. Again thank you

I've heard it's great. I'll see if I can hire it one day :-)

I sold my older canon 70-300 is lens and brought this, these are dirt cheap compared to the canon model and yet I think out perform them? Love your reviews - simply excellent.

Hi Christopher, i love your reviews. Very Professionally done. I have the option of getting the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 non vc and the Tamron 70-300 VC USD. Price wise, the 70-300mm is about half priced off the 70-200 f2.8 non VC I shoot handheld most of the time and prefer portraits, so bokeh is a concern. Which would you recommend?
@christopherfrost10 жыл бұрын
The VC version is miles better. I would never buy the non-VC version
@justsean_really10 жыл бұрын
Given a rock and a hard place, i only get one chance to get either one. Which would be it? I never owned a 70-200 f2.8 before and Tamron's version (without VC) is really affordable now The 70-300VC is cheaper though
@Popa2kas9 жыл бұрын
bigrockseany Personally I cannot imagine using 70-200 without VC...

If u can can wait & raise money then Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 VC USD is an amazing lens. Its having neck to neck competition with Canon's mighty 70-200 f/2.8 IS2.
@truknayr239 жыл бұрын
pinkesh patel That is quite misleading... for the image you get for its price the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 VC is an awesome lens... but overall it is still miles away from the mighty Canon and Nikon 70-200 f 2.8 IS/VR . There is a reason why the pros still choose the Canon and Nikon f 2.8. Cheers ^_^

Thanks for your outstanding work, Christopher! I wanted to ask you, what lens would you recommend between the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VC USD and the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM for a telephoto beginner with an APS-C camera?
@christopherfrost5 жыл бұрын
I've made a video about that very question :-) look for my 'Best Telephoto Zoom Lens for APS-C' video

Hey! Great review! Do you know if this lens is compatible with Canon 100D? Thanks!

All Canon mount lenses made since 1987 will work on your Canon APS-C digital SLR camera, except EF-M lenses

Hey Chris, love the review. I just ordered this Lens from B&H based on your Review and other notables. Since your review was based on a Canon 60D, which looked pretty good, how would this lens fare on a 6D? ( I whished you have reviewed this Lens on a 6D) I was going to wait for the Canon EF 70-300 IS II but they keep pushing the release date back. Do you think I should have waited?
@christopherfrost8 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I didn't have a 6D when I tested this lens! I bet it's quite good though. It might be worth waiting for the new 70-300. Or maybe something older will do...keep an eye on my channel for the next couple of days...

Hi Chris, have you also tested the a bit newer version A030, I am curious whether there is any difference
@andrewwilliams352411 жыл бұрын
I have tested this lens on my Canon 550D & 5D mark II and it performed well on both. In fact it performed better on full frame in terms of focus speed. On the 5D2 It's sharp at all focal lengths. Your lens could have been defective. I tested it against a 70-200 F4 is and the L lens was better but there is not much difference.
@photojs29197 жыл бұрын
hi chris! have you tried this on a Full frame? if so, how was it?
@christopherfrost7 жыл бұрын
Haven't tried it I'm afraid. I'm sure it's fairly good
