It is appalling the medical system in this country! To put senior citizens through this is a disgrace! No other country that provides senior citizen care would allow a program such as this to exist. No wonder our senior citizens are so sick and stressed out. It would not be surprising if politicians are behind this disgrace!

You're absolutely right, Chris. High Deductible Plan G (HDG) is a $2,800 max out of pocket (MOOP), but the reason I chose the HDG for both my wife and I, is because the difference in the premium between HDG and regular G is just short of $200/month. With the HDG, we save short of $2,400 each on the premiums. I would rather pay for the service, than for the premium. I'm relatively healthy, and my wife spends most of her medical expense on prescription drugs. But, I didn't give Plan N much attention, and if I wanted to switch plans at some point, would that be a problem? I find most people have trouble picking something off of a breakfast menu, when are they actually prepared to choose a plan that would effect them for the rest of their lives. And, I learned that health insurance costs more under Medicare than in any year when I was on Obamacare. Younger able bodied Americans are getting better subsidies than senior citizens.

I had Kaiser Insurance in California for DECADES. No testing, etc. Kaiser doctors would tell me oh it's stress. Your fine. I choose to go with the Senior Savings Network at 65 with a Plan N. A year after being on Medicare, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was shocked but grateful I listened to Christopher before & thought ahead. In the long run, regardless of what my monthly payment is for Plan N and my deductible is by far cheaper. My monthly payment plus my deductible is $ 1,500.00 a year. That is it! God Bless

This is very helpful, thank you! But as you point out, it is really important to understand the rules in the state that you live in. In my state (Washington), we have guaranteed issue rights to switch Medigap plans at any time without underwriting or waiting periods, as long as you are already on a Medigap plan. (If you start with an Advantage plan, you may not get guaranteed issue rights in these circumstances). For those of us who have contributed to HSA plans and never touched them while employed, the High Deductible Plan G becomes very attractive. If the person's situation changes, they can switch to a Plan N or other Plan (with the exceptions of those plans, such as plan F, that are restricted to certain populations) without underwriting. Other states have different rules. I suggest people contact the SHIP (state health insurance assistance program) in the state that they live in to get specific information pertaining to their state.

I like HDG for the incentive to stay healthy to stay away from the medical industry. Hospitals and doctors are only as good as the least competent staff. I worked for a major hospital for 22 years before I retired. I wouldn't be as careful if on G or N to "get my money's worth". I save about $110 per month in my area.

Have watched so many of these type videos recently, they are helpful, it seems the ins and outs of the insurance game are endless and purposely meant to confuse. Many of the host seem to think that seniors are making decisions on a penny wise but pound foolish basis, but l think that while that might be true for some, the vast majority of seniors are simply looking at what they can afford. Nobody wants a plan where they can end up getting burned, but many just can’t shell out the cost of a Cadillac plan , particularly when the cost of the plan’s yearly rate increases out paces SS.

Living in Florida the savings with the hdG versus the G plan will cover the $2800 deductible every 2 years, the savings is a little over $120 per month. If you are reasonably healthy I see no good reason to go with the G plan in Florida.

I chose the high deductible G plan. Reasons: cut the monthly G plan payment way, way down. If I need anything substantial, I'll pay the high deductible. Thing is, in my area, the monthly plan cost + deductible is LESS than the "normal" plan G. So I get the coverage I need for anything serious, and at essentially a lesser cost.

I've been on United American HDF in Palm Beach County, Florida for 2 years now. A regular G plan starts at $256, plan F is $296. My HDF premium is $82 saving me $174 a month over a G plan or $2,088 a year. Plan N starts at $193 here. I didn't sign up for Medicare until age 71 as I had my employers plan. My medical expenses have been running about $600 to $800 a year so I haven't come close to the deductible. I do keep a substanial amount of cash on hand for anything that comes up. I'm wondering if it makes any sense to change to plan N.

I will be starting on Medicare in December in NY. My current insurance will expire at that time. It is a PPO with a $750 INN deductible with a $4000 INN MOOP. Due to the cost of Plan G ($243.80) with D & N only being a few dollars cheaper I started looking at Advantage Plans but didn't want one so I checked out HDG which I can afford and got. My coverage will be similar to what I have now & I'll be able to stay on original Medicare like I wanted.

I presume those premiums are Attained Age, not Issue Age, to be that low. In Florida, we are almost entirely Issue Age. Premiums for age 65 non-smoking female in 32246 are around $195 for name brand G, $51 for HDG, and $150 for N (all Issue Age Pricing) , so the annual premium differential from N to HDG is about $1200, just under half the deductible. For myself as a 68 year old male, the premium differential is even higher. Am I going to max out my HD OOP in 8 of the next 16 years? Possible, but I'm in a position to retain that risk.

Thanks for explaining HOW the High Deductible deductible changes each year. If it's indexed then you can guarantee it will go up every single year. I don't recall a year with 0% inflation. Thanks for the info. If you were allowed to contribute to an HSA and reduce your tax liability on a high deductible medigap plan I might be interested. Tax advantage plus low premium it would be good. It puzzles me why prior to retirement I can contribute to an HSA with a high deductible plan but I can't do the same with medigap plans.

I turn 65 next year here in California. I have been holding back on some things I know i need to get done esp for my eyes. I jog every day and pretty healthy, BUT that could change as I get older. My plan is to pick plan G from Health Net and then get full work done from head to toe on that plan. I am thinking maybe at some point in the future to downgrade from Plan G to Plan N if the premium differences make sense...which they dont really. Plan G will be about 150/month and plan N is 130/month to start. My understanding is that if you downgrade plans there is no medical underwriting. I dont think I ever want to go on HDG. Been there, done that with most of my health care coverage in the past. I want to "pamper" myself when it comes to health care coverage in my retirement. I almost feel like it is a sign of success in my life if you know what I mean.

I have sleep apnea and arthritis as well as Coronary artery disease. All these are questions on the form. Don't even get me started on the lifetime penalty for late enrollment of a prescription plan. I appreciate that agents are busy this time of year. However I start Medicare on Jan 1st. Waiting until December leaves it close to coverage starting. I am not getting my questions answered by my agent, they are probably too busy right now. I don't get to choose when my IEP is. I don't want to risk not having a drug plan and supplement on Jan 1st. When I was young I remember visiting the ER on new years day. It happens, even if you are strong as a horse. One of the factors I used in choosing my agent is that the owner is in her 30's. @@ChristopherWestfall But what about their rates of premium increase? Since Plan G is the new plan for guaranteed issue applicants, would you expect G-HD premiums to increase faster than F-HD rates, as you have said about the non-HD of Plan G compared with Plan N rates? It's complicated since new applicants to F-HD are older folks but they must pass underwriting, and the existing people with Plan F-HD are getting older and can be expected to have increasing medical expenses.

I have F... are G plan premiums going up more than plan F (for those grandfathered in)? since it is no longer offered, I am assuming people can't be shoe horned into plan F.

Hi, I have found your videos to be very thorough and informative. Plan N seems to be the best plan for me. I live in Nevada and on the Medicare website it lists the monthly premiums for all of the Plan N policies in each zip code. All of the companies listed have a specific monthly premium listed. However Humana has a range of $0 - $130. Why do they post a price range as opposed to a specific monthly premium?

I went on Medicare in September of last year. Am I wrong to understand that if I want to switch to a supplement plan in the state of Wisconsin, I don't need underwriting as long as I am still in my first year? I have been watching your videos and came across this one today. I almost thought after watching someone else's videos that G would be the way to go but I am now considering the N.

I decided on AARP United Healthcare high deductible g. The cost difference in Florida between that and plan G is over $150 a month. I’m going to save the difference if I need it for my deductible. My thought is I might not need it some years but other years I might. I’m confident I’ve made the right choice.

Right plan, possibly wrong company. UHC had never been in the high-deductible Plan G world until about give minutes ago. Meanwhile, there are players in Florida with a much longer, proven track record. But, we're always here to help if you'd like a second opinion vs. Do It Yourself. Remember, our help is free to you. I don't hear a lot about cancer insurance. Is it for supplementing Medical Advantage? Do we need it if we are on Medigap B or G? I thought Medicare with Medigad would cover everything.

Why doesn’t this impact guaranteed issue? I am lucky to have Anthem PPO plan thru former employer (union) but have zero costs aside from $5 copay including out of network…no other copays. It’s a good plan obviously and they reimburse my Medicare part B premiums too….I can go out of network thus far with no problem (California and Washington) but will examine this closely…

Yes, absolutely. I've covered WHY New York has such high rates -because it's open enrollment for everyone all the time. This is the natural result of that policy decision. That's why HDG is best there.

I thought plan G HD annual deducible determination was based on actuarial rates not inflation. Can you confirm that?.....makes a difference on predicting future deductibles for this plan as claim patterns are more predictable than inflation.

My son just started with Wellcare advantage. He put me on it, 2 months ago. I was on regular medicare since 2017. I haven't been to Drs, dental for 12 years, went on Keto, organic, holistic, herbs, supplements, etc. Not on any medications. Should I be on this plan? Mom died of diabetes at 64, dad died of auto immune, congestive heart at 97, almost 98, his mom died at 98. My mom's sister's, 102, 97. Appreciate a response, I am low income, don't pay premiums. Thank you. Watching your video on what might happen in 2025

I'm 66 and on Medicare/Medicaid. Kentucky Medicaid has me on a Molina advantage plan. I'm planning to withdraw from Medicaid and the Medicare Savings Program to purchase a gap policy. I have a spinal cord injury with some paralysis in my lower legs. Will I need to go through underwriting to get plan N, and how likely am I to succeed?

I'm in Florida too and the sticker shock got me too. My Medicare starts in January and I need to make a decision soon. I always had an HMO and never had an issue with it for all the years I have had it. And tbh I'm salivating looking at the Humana Advantage with a $1000 Max out of pocket and zero premium but more than likely will go with an N or High deductible G policy. This was a good video.

QUESTION: Since Humana Gold Plus Medicare Advantage is no longer offered in my zipcode, can I get an "Guaranteed Issuance" to enroll into Supplemental Plan N, just like I could get a "Guaranteed Issuance" to enroll into Supplemental Plan N? I got on Medicare A and B on 4/1/2020. I just recently got a diagnosos of Myasthenia Gravis, which is one of those disqualiying health issues where they can deny me coverage without the "Guaranteed Issuance". I think I can go from Medicare Advantage to Plan G, so does that mean I could also go to Plan N as well, if I want to?
@ChristopherWestfall
@ChristopherWestfall 2 ай бұрын
No, you can only get another (possibly much better) Medicare Advantage plan. We can help with that. You could get a guarantee issue Medicare Supplement, but it would be Plan G only. That's the primary reason why Plan G has such high rate increases, because they MUST accept the Guarantee Issue Business. I explain that here: PlanNMedicare.org We can help you here: seniorsavingsnetwork.org/medicare-help/
