Before the pandemic, NWA had Eli Drake (L.A. Knight), Thunder Rosa, Ricky Starks, Eddie Kingston, and Nick Aldis. They had Cody Rhodes as NWA champ for 3 months after All In. They really were killing it. I still keep up with NWA, but…can’t argue that the pandemic hit their momentum worse than any other brand in the industry.

New NWA was half-smothered in its crib, but ROH was pulverized. Even after getting bought out now, they're about as irrelevant as they were at any point during the pandemic. Impact was incredibly lucky to make it through
@robbhebert3288 Жыл бұрын
Look, Tony owns ROH now, so it has every opportunity to grow if fanboy Tony wants it to. Corgan, while rich, can’t just pull talent from out his ass to bring the NWA back to prominence. He had the pieces in place, but fate stepped in to fuck it over with Covid. I can tell you for damn straight that if I had my way, NWA would be at the least the second biggest promotion on the planet. There’s more history there, and more of a legacy that’s in place than something like AEW will ever achieve.

Ken Anderson (Kennedy) and Colt Cabana were there as well. Not to compare them to the names mentioned, but they brought name value to the company too.

@@robbhebert3288😂 AEW is already the number 2 company and doesn't need history like NWA to accomplish it. Get with the times. This is one of the best all around interviews of yours I've ever watched, Billy is extremely articulate.
@gj003f6898 Жыл бұрын
Spot on about Billy's articulation. Especially when it came to broadcasting. The concept he said was preferable - the traditional scheduling of programming alongside uploads of individual episodes, specials and PPV's - was, if I heard it right, was being considered by Amazon for its Prime service. Also, it was a model, although I would have to check up with it as I haven't regularly gone to the website, that Pro Wrestling TV was using. What I suppose would help is Smart televisions being the norm by being less costly to purchase than they are at the moment. Both PWTV and Fite (I'd forgot about them ... and others too) have apps that can be installed on the sets (certainly the case with the LG model I have). But what will seal the deal, perhaps, is a handful of Indie companies banding together to create a service like it. There is, of course, the likelihood that some of them will start reciting the title of the song "Money's too tight to mention" but there must be financial incentive alone that would be visible to them if they are prepared to take off their blinkers for once instead of using Dollar, Dollar bill as the steel chair that the business as a whole use to give itself a shot to the head. If wrestling is the life, then surely, they have a golden opportunity to own a pop-open wallet rather than having the one with the zip opening own their ... "Christianity" shall we refer to it?

@ROMANTIKILLER2 Жыл бұрын
Yeah... I mean, in theory what Billy is saying makes sense in future perspective, but right now such an event would be entirely carried by AEW. The difference in size and global reach between AEW and NWA and Impact is just as big as the one between AEW and WWE, and this is not a matter of liking a promotion over the other but just numbers. I cannot picture an audience who only knows WWE wrestlers and is not even familiar with AEW folks are to buy a ticket to see guys from Impact of NWA, independently of how talented those can be.

Watching this interview makes me wanna give NWA a chance. I been watching WWE since Summerslam 2022 but it's getting so boring. So tired of Roman. NWA did the same thing with Aldis. Him leaving was a woohoo moment for me. Tyrus i have no problem with. People so hypocritical when most praise Andre who could barely move. Yeah he was a giant, but Tyrus ain't some light heavyweight. He's a huge dude who can destroy you. I don't care about agile matches. I don't need a back and forth. Why would i want someone to get 50% offense against a big man like him? That's stupid. Internet fans don't view wrestling the rest of us do. Like an actual staged fight with wrestling rules and psychology. They just in it to see a great Meltzer match with flips and counters and running around. There are 90% of people that do that and never once has been the reason i love a match. It's the story. I know people look down at fat people. I'm fat, people that lose weight will tell you the world suddenly respects them after they lose weight. So i know there is a judgement people have. People are scum and think fat people are lesser than them. So i don't view the criticisms valuably. Plus internet fans opinions are generally ass. Anyone over 240 is generally disliked cause they don't counter as much. If they a Babyface forget about it.
