I would still love to see the 7th Avenue corridor buried and run as a subway, and the surface street retained as a transitway for buses. it would definitely allow for greater capacity with more trains possible and longer platforms to future-proof the system.
@joncalon75084 жыл бұрын
Never going to happen. They will eventually decouple the Red Line from the Blue Line, burying the Red Line underneath 8th Avenue, as the downtown core was at capacity for the number of trains in the peak periods. The blue line will not be leaving 7th Avenue. As well, most of the bus routes have been moved off 7th Avenue as well...Only a few remain today.

@joncalon75083 жыл бұрын
@@Trackside_magpie_7535 the Green Line will get it’s own tunnel on a mostly North-South Alignment through the downtown core, turning east in the beltline. The tunnel under 8th Avenue South is for the Red Line when it needs it’s own line through downtown due to capacity constraints on the 7th Avenue Surface Line. Though with Covid changing how people work, the demand to do that may have evaporated.

C train is a good example of how transit should never be. 74 people have died from 1985 to 2017 due to the C train. It should be grade separated. Its too slow and unreliable, u just never know when some guy who hasn't had their morning coffee is gonna hit the thing and delay everyone. NYC, London, Montreal, Boston etc. those are examples of what mass transit should be

It's crummy how it runs in mixed traffic downtown. Plus most of it seems to go through areas with nothing whatsoever on either side. They need to put up some buildings on the route. Even the stroad/suburban hellscape part seems like good land use planning compared to the wasteland that is the majority of the route.

@SwanDigEnt3 жыл бұрын
there is a tunnel under city hall...but they found water seepage issues made it unfeesable at the time..this was when they first built the c train so there may be tech to work around it now. also of note...there is a hidden station built under city hall. When I lived there, there was differnt colored flooring infront of the escalators...that was supposed to be the stairs down.

Are the traffic lights tied to the trains? I seems that the trains didn't wait for a second after a station stop.
@chrisvazquez76 жыл бұрын
Well, I edited the video to eliminate stops. Also, the train would wait at stations until the light was about to turn green. I'm not sure if the lights are synchronized with the trains at all.
@exile220ify5 жыл бұрын
Outside of the downtown core, CTrains get priority - if a train is coming, the lights change to give the train priority. Downtown on 7th Ave, it's all street-level, so CTrains do have to stop for red lights there.
@joncalon75084 жыл бұрын
On the 7th Avenue corridor, the traffic engineers do make a valiant attempt to time the traffic lights such that the trains can travel from one station to the next without a stop light. Doesn't always happen though.
