They built them well back then! My 1990 has held up well. Almost 400,000 km. No rust, just a very minor oil leak and some chipped clear coat. My engine bay is as dirty as this one though, so this is inspiring for me!!

I feel happy to have found your channel. You do amazing work. The only thing I would do differently here is that I would probably polish the fuse cap a bit with some plastics polisher. The haziness and yellow effect make it look dirty in comparison to the rest of the engine.

Brett E a mild degreaser and soft bristle brush works great! You can use a hose just use minimal water

Long time BMW tech here.. That engine looks better than when the E30 was new. They would come off the cargo ships covered in protectant. Real pain to get that stuff off.

I am really curious as to why you left the wind shield washer container, the AFM, and other stuff in the engine bay to clean them. There is a lot of stuff there that takes two screws to pop out and would make for an easier deep clean.

Very nice detailing. I have some experience with painting valve covers with wrinkle paint. In order to make the painted finish last it’s strongly recommended to sand blast it 🙂👍🏻 The paint you used is good because no primer needed 👌🏻

Son you had it easy!!! Normaly you have to clean off all kinds of residue from caked on sealants, anti rust and body protection spray! This E30 has seen little rain and has just a lot of dirt and road grime

Awesome video. Maybe try increasing the angle at which you film the engine so that your arm doesn't block what you are trying to show, might be a bit difficult though given the way the bonnet opens. Keep up the great content.

I noticed on the first shot of cleaning the plastics you ended up steaming first before using the degreaser. Was that to help loosen up the caked in oil for the degreaser or just what you ended up doing at that point? Lol

What's really bothering me is when you use the steel wire brush. I suggest using a plastic brush is much safer (not scratching) and cleaner because it's more flexible than steel wire brush.

The plastic splash guard probably got taken off years ago. You'd be surprised how much that thing helps keep the bay clean.

Wait.. you don't just spray degreaser on the engine and spray it off and then coat it in armor all like all the new car dealerships do? from my experience your doing it wrong bc new car dealers use old mitts and 3 week old soap buckets full of dirt and grime lol. kidding of course i love the detail and I'm glad someone else out there likes to put in the time to make it look good.
