Today we take a 26 year old engine bay in a 1994 BMW E36 and give it a thorough deep clean! This engine bay was filthy, covered in years and years of grease build up. In the video you see all the necessary steps to take a dirty engine bay and make it look new again, well, almost new. 26 years can do a lot of wear and tear on an engine. The video is filled with loads of foam, satisfying brush shots, and heavily saturating dried our plastics with a water based dressing. Sit back and enjoy this auto detailing ASMR video!

I really need to do this on mine, but I must admit I am very wary of using a pressure washer on any of the electrical items and especially on the cam cover - flooding the coil packs won't end well! Ditto any rubber items that may be brittle with age - too much pressure could cut right through them :-/

@ChromaticGarage
@ChromaticGarage 4 жыл бұрын
damaholic22 thanks man! A few different reasons, this is my typical routine when detailing a daily driven engine bay. That E30 from the other video was significantly worse so I decided to break it down into small sections. That was also at a different shop with no floor drains so I didn’t want to use excess water. And lastly it wasn’t going to be driven for a few months so if any water was sitting in places I couldn’t get to that would be less than ideal

I started doing work on my own this year and I still get nervous starting an engine after a detail. Iv only had to replace an alternator Once, Just once.

So alternators can't get wet when you are daily driving..hmm weird...people always get scared of putting water on engines but you'd be surprised how much water gets up in there when driving normally..

Jared Keller ohh mannn Im telling you dude..I know what I did. it was my 94 4Runner I washed the engine my first car gots to look sick you know! I was working at a dealership so I had it all and I used it all. Even tho some spots didn’t have clear coat it was waxed all the time lol. So yeah your right about the water getting in engine bays, we would power wash the engine bays of used cars that came in for sale at a Infiniti dealership as routine, but I was still learning. One day I cocked off And felt a little ballzie so I cleaned my engine the best posible way I knew how to make it look like “wow” and I did it👍🏼. Well when I drove home two lights went on in the dashboard. The battery and the engine, Fuck! “It turnd on so I should be good? I made it home so I should be good? The lights where still there in the morning, but it turned on to go to work so it should be good right!?”. I went to get gas Less then 2 miles away from my house and it began to shut down on the way while driveing and I’m on E! Thankfully I was able to cruse the way there, practically rolling as the truck tryes to die. I called up my uncle and told him what happened and what I did and he said “yeah it might be the alternator”. And yeah it was. He helped me put a new one in by the end of the day and everything with the truck went back to normal. My “free” engine bay detail ended up casting me about $130 in parts plus the 8hrs of work I would have made that day and a lot of stress. Now I know always cover the alternator, the computer(ECU), and the air intake if it’s exposed and any other exposed electrical component. It was a really expensive mistake on my part that shouldn’t have happen

I do like watching the before and after. I dont like dusty greasy engines. However I don't recomnend by any means throwing water into the engine bay. Covering the alternator wont avoid causing issues. There's a lot of sensors and electrical connectors where pressure water can get in and cause a LOT of troubles.
@YourMom-nl4uw
@YourMom-nl4uw 3 жыл бұрын
Modern engines of today are pretty protected against that, so most should be ok. But you're right on the pressure part. High pressure water should try and be avoided. Use a regular water hose with an adjustable nozzle. High pressure can force water into unwanted areas.

For someone who doesn’t know much about cars. How do you know what to cover/what needs to be covered in order to be able to do the process of washing the engine bay
@ChromaticGarage
@ChromaticGarage 4 жыл бұрын
i Pacay the only two things you really need to worry about are alternator and exposed electrical items. Unfortunately the only way you’ll know every time is to familiarize yourself with these items. It’s super easy though! Engines are much less scary than people make them out to be

@@ChromaticGarage One thing I wanted to mention: I don't know if it was my luck or it only worked on my case but, I used my tire and plastic dressing on the painted parts of the engine bay and after wiping of the excess, they really started to shine, so maybe you could try it on this car :)
