Jeff Beck is probably the most overrated guitarist of all time. People just think they're supposed to say he was the greatest. They're just bowing to peer pressure to repeat the "accepted wisdom" spouted by other sheep.

Seems to me it's the "accepted wisdom" of many many other guitarists rated as great, when they are asked who their heroes are. But I suspect you maybe need to be a guitarist to appreciate just how great Jeff was.

Given that many of the most recognised guitarists in popular music (and other musicians) cite Beck as an influence and/or as a major talent, I'd say your opinion is somewhat uninformed. If you simply don't like him, fair enough though. Listen to the music you do like.
