Mossberg 590 Bolt Disassembly !!!.MOV

I completely disassemble the bolt of this great shotgun. It is an easy job and you should have no problems doing thsito your shotgun. I am not an expert but I have a lot of time with this shotgun and I would recommend that you do this every few hundred rounds and really do a thorough cleaning. I would not put much lubrication, just a very slim film.

My shotgun started misfiring and I wanted to get the bolt and open it up and clean it cuz it has a little bit of rust in there I had no idea how to take that thing apart you mentioned a punch tool 1/16 went and bought that clean everything up now thanks to you sir my shotgun has not missed fired again I appreciate your videos so much thank you

Nice job as always. FYI the locking block on top isn't what gets pulled by the bolt slide... the hooked bit in the bottom of that piece is. The top engages with the barrel extension to lock the action closed for firing. Rock on!

My pins behave NOTHING like this. I’ve broken two punches trying to get one of the two extractor pins out. I gave up. Also the main pin that holds the cocking blocker, as you call it, is a beast. It was very difficult to get out, and not very difficult to get in.

When you’re putting the extractor pins in on the left side, the side that is not seen. Do you want to stop that pen before it goes into the main groove on the side. Do you want to keep it on the high side of the groove or doesn’t it matter? Thank you

thx for making this vid. been suspecting I have a damaged firing pin on my 500. this makes it so I don't have to send my primary HD gun to Mossberg for weeks on end.

Make sure you have the gun cocked and the safety on. I just told the other guy also, Try racking it, then make sure its clear, pull the trigger, try and see if the pin moves, if it starts to, re-rack the gun and go ahead with disassembly. yep I'm the same way about wanting to take down my guns too. I got a bolt similar to this in an old mossberg 500 I got but the firing pin is not the spring type but the old rocker type. I had to make a new firing pin for it you can check it out on my channel. Not the most fun but it worked. But this break down of the bolt is almost exact to the older bolts so is a great instructional for both bolts.

yeah i have the same problem with the first pin not coming out. i also put the bolt in a vise and tried knocking the pin out with a punch and the punch broke!!! so i gave up on it before i brake something. all the other pins come out no problem.

Yeah! Be careful, I sent the bolt into Mossberg to replace the broken extractor, but they said they're just going to replace the whole bolt. I asked them if they could punch out the pin, then put it back in but they refused because they don't want users disassembling them. :/ hopefully my new bolt will be easy to work with. I sent the broken one in like 2.5 weeks ago ;/

Synchronizor : Yes the left extractor is shorter of the retaining pins. That is due to the ejector having to come down that cut out in the bolt to eject the spent shotgun case. Right extractor has a sharper angle almost 90 degrees.

Well I tried this tonight on my 835, but I think where I dropped the gun in salt water 2 years ago the pin in rusted solid inside. Damn pin won't come out. I don't dare to hit any harder. LOL.

Thanks for the video. I've had a problem with my 835 not ejecting spent cartridges. The bolt looks very similar. I'm trying once again to fix. The extractor pins on your bolt. Do they look the same or are they different? My bolt they look different. Just trying to narrow down the problem. thanks Mike

I've been pounding that big pin (the first one you removed) with a punch and a hammer, and it moved a tiny bit, but was not coming out. I had it over wood first, using a 16 ounce hammer, and it didn't move at all. Then I tried the bench vise and the 16 ounce hammer (having the vice open 1/4" so the pin could go through), and got no movement. I switched to a 3 pound sledge and was able to move it about 1/8", but felt like I was going to destroy something so I stopped. I watched your video, and the pin is popping right out of there. I'm not sure what to do, other than move up to a 5 pound sledge and keep working on it. It doesn't appear rusty, but the "cocking block" is not moving smoothly. Any advice? This gun is pretty new, and this is the first time I've tried to take the bolt apart. Prior cleanings I just cleaned and oiled what I could without major disassembly. This time around, I'm getting more detailed.

My right side extractor is broken after the bolthead fall of the table. I would like to change it. My mossberg 88 seems to be all ok and extract the shells anyway but I want it to bee foolproof!

Would you know were to get a replacement locking-pin that is in the back of the bolt? It's the first pin you punch out, in order to release the firing pin. I accidentally chipped it maybe 1-3 millimeters on one of the ends, but it still looks functional. Although, I don't want to try to operate the shotgun like that for safety issues obviously. If you have any info. I would appreciate it. Thank you.
