Know what’s funny, I put on a video about Saphir to play in the background, while conditioning my 2030 brown cxl with this product. I’ve used it for a while, but switched to Venetian Balm for a while. I’ll say though, he’s right, and I already knew this, I just hadn’t heard anyone else saying it. I used a dauber brush to apply it, then rubbed it in with gloved fingers. It returned the Chromexcel to its original, hydrated state. It has that nice, satin sheen that makes it so desirable. I’m more the Rugged Americana type, but smart guy, good solid advice 👌🤜🤛 (Personally I only use neutral)

That cream reminds me of the Mr. Leather product in the yellow bottle. You put it on and it moisturizes the leather, has this nice sheen to it and then it dries leaving the leather nice, well cxl.

I've had 1000 mile Evans boots for more than a year. I use mink oil based solution to rejuvenate the leather and obenaufs wax to add a little shine. No damage to leather at all but I'll consider getting greasy leather solution from saphir soon.

The Hanger Project I've got greasy leather solution from saphir and I have some important points to share: 1) Never apply it with your bare fingers, it stained mine for 3 days now and skin cracked on tips of my fingers !! 2) the pigment in black is not light at all. It remained as matt finish on my boots and required very Intense buffing with cloth to get back to original appearance, 3) this is indeed great product, it covered all little scuffs and brought my boots after one year to almost original look.

I don't know if you'd be able to answer this, but theoretically footwear from this material, would it be feasible to wear in an environment where the boot doesn't necessarily get pounded by water so much as it does get exposed (not just the sole, but parts of the boots) to bodily fluids. I am a nurse and considered purchasing boots from this material, but unsure if it would be a smart idea as I wouldn't want to destroy the boots necessarily or material. Additionally would that material then be ok against a hospital disinfectant wipes of sorts or would the leather soap dinsinfect the boot?

Hi there, Kirby, recently I had purchased a pair of boots sporting #8 Chromexcel leather, I absolutely love them, so much so that I thought it would be a good idea to use the burgundy pommadier cream from saphir to try and restore some of the color lost through some rough scuffs, but boy, that was a bad idea as now I am left with leather that seems stained and left with a haze that won’t come off and now I am regretting what I have done and am coming to you in hopes I can still salvage my beloved boots with some good advice. So the question is, what can I do to remove these polish stains and restore the leather to its original color? Any help offered will be greatly appreciated, thank you and have a good day.

Hi Kirby, always enjoying your video's. This one leaves me a little puzzled though. You describe Chromexcel as oiled leather without waxes, hence the use of Saphir's Oiled Leather Cream that's without waxes too. This seems contradictory to what Horween says about their Chromexcel: "The next step is "hot stuffing" - that is, the impregnation of the hides with oils, waxes, and greases that are solid at room temperature. Stuffing is achieved through the use of steamed mills, and is the process that is responsible for the "pull-up" of this leather. Pull-up is the temporary displacement of these oil and wax blends that cause a lightening of the leather. Our philosophy that you need to use the best components to make the best leather is particularly evident in this department, where we create blends using products like food-grade beef tallow and cosmetic-grade beeswax." From this article: www.horween.com/blog/2010/03/23/chromexcel®-2 Although I use Saphir's OLC too and it's a fine product (not only for CXL) - there IS a lot wax in Chromexcel. So wax containing products like Renovateur or the lighter Lotion work just perfect on Chromexcel. For a bit of shine better than OLC obviously.

Hi Kirby, I know this is a very old video, and I hope you read my comment. I just got a very nice pair of Johnston and Murphy boots, which look uncannily similar to yours, and are definitively made of Chromexcel. I realized that a bit late, as I already tried to remove the finish with acetone, covered with some light brown Fiebings dye, put some Bick 4 conditioner, ending with a coat of Saphir cream, just the regular one for calfskin leather. When I tried to shine it, the boot came back feeling very tacky and won’t take a shine, so I realized something was wrong, so I stopped and started researching. I then realized that I did the wrong thing. I just purchased a tub of greasy leather cream and is on the mail right now, but in the meantime, I want to try to fix what I did. Do you recommend to do something to them right now, maybe reapplying acetone to remove all the waxes that I applied? Or maybe alcohol. I’m worried I might have ruined the leather. It still looks very nice, and still a bit tacky, although not that much as yesterday when I did all that. But I really want to salvage them. Thanks for any advice.

I'm now wondering if maybe I've been taking a slightly wrong approach. I've been using Bickmore Bick 1 leather cleaner and Bickmore Bick 4 leather conditioner, which has yielded beautiful results. I've considered Huberd's Shoe Grease, but like I said, so far no issues with the Bickmore products. However, as scuffs happen, I sought out a polish and went with Saphir Tobacco Pommadier Shoe Polish. I was wondering your thoughts on the Bickmore (and heck, why not, Huberd) products, but also on the polish I went with vs what you're recommending here for this particular boot. Also, any thoughts on Saphir's Sole Guard for this boot, and also Fiebing's Sole Edge for this boot? Thank you very much for your time and thoughts.

diadros RC Here is my opinion, for whatever it's worth. I didn't try Huberd's Shoe Grease nor Fiebing's Sole Edge (yet), but I did order the Saphir Grease mentioned in this video, in brown. I didn't get the Saphir Renomat (I can't go buying their whole line at once), but since I had around a month ago used the Saphir Pommadier, I used the Bickmore Bick 1 Cleaner, allowing ample time to dry, and then applied the Saphir Grease. I found that aside from a heel spot that is more faded, the grease did a better job on my 1,000 Miles making scuffs and scratches disappear. What I was looking for in the Saphir Pommadier polish, as he seems to have suggested in this video, the Saphir Grease product is more fitting and therefore did a better job for this particular boot's leather, didn't alter the original texture of the boot. However, aside from coming a bit short on that heel as I mentioned, I found that once fully dry, it appeared... cloudy by comparison to its original hue. I then applied the Bickmore Bick 4 Leather Conditioner, and now (aside from that daggum heel) my 1,000 Miles look a LOT like they did brand new out the box. Those are my observations. I hope they're of help.
@diadross6 жыл бұрын

Redwing 3341, Nick's Charley waxed, whites main street and smoke jumper (for working in the yard, I was looking the the Allen Edmonds dalton wingtip or the Hamilton captor oxford. What are your thoughts on those two, I noticed you work with allen Edmund's often.

Hi. First time boot buyer here, and I just wanted to say I love your videos. I recently bought a pair of brown captain Thursday boots . Quick question: i only have access to Saphir products (the company recommends venetian cream) and I'm looking for a boot care regimen specifically for the brown Captains. What specific regimen/products from saphir would you recommend? Would I be correct in saying that Saphir pate de luxe for polishing and renovateur creme for conditioning would be needed?

I have the captains in brown as well, the leather is extremely saturated and tough it really doesn't require much care, especially for the first 6 months. I have been using a leather lotion by Moneysworth and Best. Best thing is to keep them clean with a horsehair brush and use shoe trees to help prevent creasing.

Question, just received a pair of Allen Edmonds chromexcel cap toe casual oxfords.New Old Stock(NOS) with bloom on the leather right out of the box. Brushed for a nice matte sheen. Cap toe seems to have dried out; how can I reconstitute oil content? Thanks.

The Saphir Chromexcel Greasy Leather Cream was made just for this: www.hangerproject.com/saphir-chromexcel-greasy-leather-cream.html You could start off with a neutral if all you wanted was to rehydrate.

i have a question, i have a workboots with veg tanned leather, and since you know it is workboots so I beaten it up.. veg tanned seems absorbing water too much, i live in tropical rainforest so it always wet and i ride motorcycles, and i heard veg tanned is need to look after more than pullup leather. Do u have any suggestions how should i do to maintenance my boots?
@kirbyallison7 жыл бұрын
You could condition with a product like the Saphir Dubbin. This will help waterproof the boots. You can also use the Saphir Superinvulner to waterproof specifically. These would be my two recommendations. We have both of these products on HangerProject.com
