In the 30 odd years of experiencing it myself, I have experienced these recovered periods where I can be very active again but it's usually after another virus, operation or major stress/trauma that it comes back which does go with what health professionals say that it can go dormant; you can recover but it's not 'cured' and it can reactivate again. Unfortunately, it really depends on the stage of illness too. Although still rare statistically, those in mild/moderate stage are much more likely to be able to experience recovery than those in severe/very severe stage.
@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoachАй бұрын
@user-gk4yl9bi9s Thank you for sharing your experience. That sounds so very challenging and my heart goes out to you. It's also wonderful that you've had these recovery periods! From a mind-body lens, we see the flare-ups as originating from neural pathways in the brain. A virus or another stressor can trigger this cascade. But thankfully, our brains are neuroplastic our entire lives so we can rewire them over time! I know it can be hark to grok when you've felt sick for so long, but I have seen people recover after 30+ years of debilitating symptoms. When you've been on either pain or anxiety medications, it's vitally important to taper off slowly and safely, otherwise you can have huge rebound pain and other problems. I interviewed several pain medications for an article, and they gave people pain medications in fluid form (you can get that done in compounding pharmacies), then gradually reduced the dose. That eases the rebound problems. And good news - one study found that pain meds work for about 2 weeks, then cause 43% MORE pain. Once you're off them, you may well have MUCH less pain. I know I did once I'd quit. Best of luck!

I love this. I had really bad pain for 6 years - misdiagnosed by 11 specialists. I was diagnosed with TMS by myself (Dr. Sarno's description of TMS sufferer's traits just blew me away - light bulb moment) and my diagnosis was confirmed by a TMS expert. Since knowing it is TMS, the pain has dropped - I can sleep again and work again. I'm suffering from bad fatique now the last months (not as bad as you had it Rebecca) but I could sleep all day - maybe sleep apnea, but maybe this is just the symptom imperative of TMS. Rebecca - Greetings from Lübeck!

@greenleader413 Thanks for your heartwarming note! And congrats on your lightbulb moment and the improvement that's followed! This story is very similar to mine. I was a very active automotive Restyler working for several new and used car dealers as well as installing reflective graphics for Columbia County Georgia Sheriff Dept. Suddenly in 2016 while jogging one evening, severe pelvic pain hit me and soon totally disabled me. I was forced to close down my business and soon became bedridden. I visited over 15 doctors in Augusta but they had no answers. Someone suggested that I view a KZbin video by Howard Stern about Sarno. I bought his book and I knew that this was what was going on. I ended up on Social Security Disability. I’m still disabled as of 2024 but I’m now enrolled in Rebecca’s course. It’s been 8 years but I now have hope that one day I will recover.

A massive congratulations, Sarah!! Yah you! I'm thrilled to hear this! Thanks for letting me know. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to share your recover story: course@rebeccatolin.com Yes, as long as doctors have ruled out structural or medication issues, we typically see restless leg syndrome as Mind-Body Syndrome and treat it as such. I can't give medical advice but I believe it can also be caused by certain medications or withdrawal from medications. You might consider asking your doctor about that. I'd also continue the mind-body strategies that helped you recover from Long Covid as I've seen RLS resolve for people as well! One more thought: I see it as a flight-fight response in the nervous system. Sometimes movement is better than stillness when we have a lot of activation. It can help discharge the stress hormones faster. Wishing you well and thanks for reaching out!

Hello Rebecca, thank you for sharing your story! I noticed you mentioned autoimmune illnesses(Hashimotos and Sjogrens) in your blog post. I don’t notice many people posting about recovering from autoimmune illnesses using mind body approach. I am am dealing with a lot of AI symptoms currently. Can you please explain how those with AI illnesses and symptoms benefit? Is it the same approach as other TMS symptoms or is it more tailored?
@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach10 ай бұрын
Hello and great questions! I'm glad you read the blog too. With autoimmune illnesses, it's recommended to seek treatment from a physician since there's evidence of tissue damage. In contrast, TMS symptoms are creating solely by learned neural pathways in the brain and not pathological issues. For thyroid issues, it's best to consult with your doctor and consider any treatment they recommend. That said, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and several kinds of thyroid hormones made me feel worse! (fast heartbeat etc.) I went off the hormones and eventually my thyroid levels normalized. I was also diagnosed with Sjogren's but the rhematologist's treatments didn't help me and I didn't have too many symptoms characteristic of that diagnosis. Thankfully, I recovered through this work. Many people combine this approach with their existing treatments to find deep healing! Even with AI illnesses, I've seen people experience improvements with mind-body healing! For one, they can work with the symptoms that are TMS. For two, as you start to regulate your nervous system and turn down the brain's danger alarm signal, the body and mind find more homeostasis which can mean less symptoms. One client just told me her mom did my Be Your Own Medicine course and hasn't had RA symptoms for two years! Wishing you the very best!

You also might enjoy this quote from Hector on our Success Stories page! “When I signed up for this course, I was in bed with CFS desperately looking for a way out of a dark hole. After two months of the course, I can live a pretty normal life, resuming relationships with family and friends and walking three times more than I was able to three months ago. I went from being in bed to working part-time. I finally KNOW what is happening in my body and mind and the way I can construct new habits to have a healthy, happy life. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this initiative.” - HÉCTOR SILVA, SANTIAGO, CHILE www.rebeccatolin.com/success

@mattsmith4459 Hi there! I found that my clients needed a download of knowledge and practices to recovery in a lasting way. So I spent several years creating my Be Your Own Medicine course. Many people are recovering through this program! When my schedule allows, I sometimes offer single sessions for people enrolled in the program (and I recommend my team coaches). I also offer live, group sessions! You can learn more here: www.rebeccatolin.com/course www.rebeccatolin.com/success

Love your story❤ I'm wondering if brain retraining works with my condition as well. I don't know if I have ME/CFS, but what I do have is neurological and brain symptoms diagnosed as anxiety. I believe my symptoms are from an antidepressant injury but could be wrong ( i had much fewer symptoms previous to SSRI). Could be from covid also.. anyway, I'm wondering if this could apply to my case as well because some people in my predicament believe that brain receptors have been damaged from the medications, but I'm not sure what to believe anymore. Thank you
@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach10 ай бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! Doctors are quite good at finding physical or pathological damage in the body/brain. If your doctor can't find tissue damage, then it's safe to assume your symptoms are mind-body symptoms caused by the way the brain and nervous system are processing stress. Anxiety is a common mind-body diagnosis, for instance. There are lots of theories about potential damage etc. In order to recover, I had to stop focusing on unproven theories that were scaring me further and not providing any viable route to recovery. Lots of people who have been on SSRIs recover from these symptoms and you may as well be one of them!!!

@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach1258 Thank you so much for always replying and being kind. I've seen multiple doctors, including neurologists, and they all say it's anxiety, yet my anxiety is secondary to my neurological and brain symptoms and not primary like in an anxiety disorder. I seem to react poorly to histamine foods as well (and almost any food for that matter). Do you know if MCAS is a mind-body issue as well? Or does it stem from the gut? Thanks again❤️
@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach10 ай бұрын
@@Eliokd You're most welcome! Kindness is medicinal and I know what it's like to feel misunderstood.🤗 My primary symptoms were also brain related, including brain fog, cognitive issues, head burning/pain, insomnia etc. All these can be neuroplastic in nature. And since you've already seen a neurologist and multiple doctors, it sounds like you've ruled out pathological issues. The next step is to rule in mind-body symptoms, which behave a certain way. You could get Dr. Schubiner's Unlearn Your Pain book or take my Be Your Own Medicine course for this. Many people react poorly to histamine foods when the nervous system is dysregulated but only a tiny fraction of people actually have MCAS. I see so many people recover from gut issues!! You might watch Renate's story here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXe3ZIZrisSla6csi=f2XIV-OmM-tABFVZ Know that you can feel better again!

@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach5 ай бұрын
@Sinaazimi-ji1jv Hi! I'm not sure what symptoms you're experiencing. But we address all neuroplastic symptoms in the same way. First, rule out anything pathological causing the symptoms and then apply the mind-body model. I recovered from ME this way and help many people overcome LC! If you want support, you might try a free somatic meditation and look at my program! www.rebeccatolin.com/newsletter www.rebeccatolin.com/course

Do you really think you could have been better earlier? Or your body just needed all that time to recover?
@rebeccatolinmind-bodycoach7 ай бұрын
@heikebleher7594 100%! My body didn't need 13 years to recover. I was treating the wrong cause so the treatment would never have worked. My symptoms were not caused by a pathological disease process in the body. They were caused by the way repressed emotions, trauma and stress were impacting my brain and nervous system. When I had a proper diagnosis, I was able to begin recovering! If you haven't watched my new video, I explain this a bit more! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXfIfninZppsesksi=cthXYCw0D6Vpfg1Z Thanks for your great question!
