Same...but only to an extent. I'm a bit older than Grimes, a man, and sans children. I expect I'll never have kids and am quite happy with that. But I'm not entirely surprised Grimes has kids, nor do I think Elon "pressured" her into it. In my early 20s ALL my friends were absolutely adamant that they'd never ever, under any circumstance, spawn. Cut to 15 years later, almost all of them have kids _and_ swear that it's the single most meaningful and joyful experience of their entire life. It's not for me, but I'm no longer surprised that the biological imperative to procreate....still exists. there's an interview in the rolling stone mag where Grimes talks about her pregnancy in ways that really bums me out. she was resistant to the idea, saw it as a sacrifice of her power/freedom/body, she says elon is good at 'talking [her] out of [her] bullshit'. Depends on the lens you are looking through. I can say the same about my relationship and it has everything to do with my husband encouraging me to try things that I might normally be afraid of. Whether it's new food or going out on a boat or pursuing a career that I feel I'm not good enough for. I've had him stand on a tower at obstacle races assuring me I can jump and survive like the other 1000+ people before me lol. I'm terrified of heights but climbed a 20ft rope because of him coaching me through it and cheering me on. Realizing you are tougher doesn't mean the other person is putting you in danger or hurting you. Sometimes it's just them encouraging you to go for the things you want even though you're scared. In doing that, you realize how much you are capable of. As for smarter, I've learned a lot from him and he has learned other things from me because we had very different childhoods and interests even in adulthood. Context matters when it comes to stating it made someone "tougher and smarter."

there's two ideas- one, that someone's love and support can make you grow into the person you are inside who is maybe braver or more outspoken. if you have a partner who listens to you you learn to express your needs, etc. I learned to take up space being smart and confident, and since then I've noticed people like talking with me because they can be smarter and more proud of themselves. If someone loves certain qualities in you you naturally lean into them. or two, that someone has issues about how you need to be extremely tough or controlled or whatever, and they put that on you. "I used to be proud of my work and enjoy it but my partner never lets me take a break so I work 24/7 and now it's a burden" vibes. I knew someone who was in a long term relationship with an older White man with power issues, and he would correct how she speaks, he would micromanage her emotional response, he would control her food. he molded her into being "tough and smart" in the same way that he values so he could respect her, because many men respect "Masculinity" so they make their female partners more masculine. Whereas I had a long term partner while I was going through Uni, and I had learned not to show how smart I am because the men won't like it, but he did. He liked hearing about what I was learning and supported me being my best self. He liked seeing that I was happy in my growth and supported it, versus coming from this place of SHAME and changing to have value. interesting though- I outgrew this partner, whereas the other relationship I describe has lasted over 20 years (they met when she was 18 and he was in his 30s)

And that web link goes to the image. the LINK is the NFT, the image itself is not owned by you, under copyright law it’s still the artists image. which is why people won’t actually get in trouble for screenshotting an NFT.

I feel like Grimes lore is suddenly understandable when you recognize her as a mixture of very impulsive and also very unaware of her platform. Like, she just... says shit. She's so unserious. And she was always like that, even before Elon, like with the iconic Nardwuar interview. It's just that once the general public suddenly learned she existed when she showed up at the met gala with Elon, people were suddenly expecting her to be like. A proper Celebrity with normal PR, instead of a garden variety internet weirdo who also happens to be a musical genius? As far as the Elon stuff goes. I think it's a combination of, early on she probably bought into the hype? Like, it's kinda key to remember public opinion only majorly turned against Elon *after* he and Grimes got together. Using their relationship as a vehicle to shit on her for being publicly a mega weirdo ended up bleeding into people realizing how incredibly fucking weird Elon himself is. And as for why they're still at all associated, it's pretty publicly an abusive relationship? Like, literally every single bit I've seen anybody say about the two of them screams abuse to me. Actually I think the most overlooked context is how privileged her life has been. See the bottom line to me is that she comes across as having the brain of a stupid child, which she has been able to retain into adulthood because of her cushy upbringing, but ultimately she IS an adult and a famous one. Her stupidity has consequences for other people (especially her children) and I sort of think she has a moral obligation to grow the hell up if she wants to be viewed with anything other than disdain.

So I became a fan of Grimes right around when Visions came out and loved everything about her and her music / wanted to be her right up until it became clear that she was serious about elon. I know she's said in an interview (Rolling Stone I think) that she really loves him even though it's fucking up her career but like.... ew. I'm only a little a bit younger than her and can appreciate that as we go through life, we change a lot. But giving up your alleged beliefs so suddenly shows that: a) you were never sincere about them in the first place (she was just a rich kid cosplaying as poor for clout) or b) you are so shallow and porous that you mirror the beliefs of the people around you, no matter what they are, and don't have any of your own
