Happy holidays to you all! My self care ideas have changed as I recently retired and am not as active as I want to be (I’d rather sit and knit all day). My goals are moving/walking or elliptical for 20-30 minutes per day. Secondly I am feeling overwhelmed by my stash and will start tracking grams out and purchasing only with a project in mind….no buying cuz it’s on sale.

I am yelling at the TV right now, agreeing with you both 110%! I had the same experience with my Christmas timeline!! I was going along merrily, all my Christmas gift knitting was done, shopping was done, there was plenty of time - and then suddenly it was December 23 and the tree wasn't up, and nothing was wrapped, and cookies weren't baked, and groceries weren't bought - and I had a mini meltdown and wanted to cancel all plans and curl up in bed until January 2. Of course it all worked out and we had a lovely time, but geez it was quite the slap. I'm off work until January 6, and completely content to just chill, wear jammies, drink tea, catch up on podcasts, knit things that aren't for other people, get through a couple books. Bliss! Happy New Year to you both and to Kathleen as well 🥂

Amanda - SoJo keeps coming up in my life, too, so I am with you that this mention might push me to find a free day mid week and head up there. Self-care: about 18 months ago I looked down at my lifelong bitten nails and realized I had been knitting enough that my nails were magically long enough to get a manicure. I immediately jumped in my car and headed to Watchung Plaza and randomly walked into one of the gazillion nail salons and got a gel manicure before I bit them off. I’ve managed to keep it up with regular manicures ever since - and to heal some long-time cuticle/nail bed issues. So my self care is my manicures and sometimes a chair massage thrown in for extra fun.

I’m an introvert, and although I enjoy spending time with friends and family, I really need to recharge with alone time. So my selfcare has the advantage of being free. I just want to spend the evening on my sofa with my knitting and a warm drink, and a movie, with only my cats for company. 🤗

PLEASE do a Felix-along in 2025! That sweater is in my queue and I am READY for that. My plans never align with knitalongs. January? Self-care for me is super-basic: getting enough sleep, taking my meds, eating as well as possible, showering, getting my hair cut regularly (so impo for short hair), getting massage therapy each month.. My husband has been in an escalating (or declining?) health crisis for the last three years, and there's no end to that in sight, so it's crucial that I take care of myself so I can take care of him. I do need to get more exercise, and I'm starting to see a counsellor because the stress is starting to come out my eyes. :) Knitting is also REALLY important to my self care. Making things fends off the things that would unmake me. And my yarny community (including you all!) is essential.

Happy Holidays. My self care practice this year is to take something off my plate. We have been doing minimal decorations because my son is very young and this year we might not put up any. While I enjoy making cookies, I’m still not feeling up to it this year so we’ll only have store-bought cookies. After Christmas I’d like to take a walk and have a long bath.
