I love how much other people love Chrono Cross. Growing up it seemed like I was the only one.
@RebeccaETripp7 жыл бұрын
There are comparatively few of us Chrono Cross lovers. At the time when it came out, there weren't many vg communities, no social media, etc, so it seemed like there were even less of us, since we were relatively scattered across the globe! Chrono Cross is and always was a niche game for hardcore philosophically minded people who cared more about story, imagination and music than action. Now we can all collect wherever there are Chrono Cross related things and spread the love, haha! Still, though, if you went to the Chrono Cross subreddit, for instance, its following is puny compared with say, Zelda or Pokemon (though that's not quite a fair comparison, given that CC is one installment in a 2.5 game series and those other large franchises). I, like many other people, would dearly love it if Squeenix would pick up the series again. :'( But I feel skeptical that it would be as good. They'd have to have just the right minds working behind it.

The Chrono games were unique. I am thankful they stand as a testament to the true nature of gaming as an art form: they can only imitated, never replicated. In my opinion, this sentiment echoes through an older title, Super Mario RPG. Silly as it might seem, I've never really heard anyone talk about how the villain in that game (Smithy) was just trying to churn out an endless stream of soulless clones (weapons, actually). One of the final bosses was a clock, like one you might have once used at a place of employment (everything is electronic now). His lair is full of conveyors and is gray, desolate. The pinnacle of the game, the most malevolent force in the universe was a factory run by a blacksmith doing a copy/paste. Probably not their intent but it was just how I saw things. That said, I didn't like Chrono Cross, both as a game (the combat system) and for its story. I just wanted the protagonist to marry the girl, have kids and grow old in his little fishing village. D: Probably an overshare but oh well.

@@RebeccaETripp Remake, tbh Rebecca!. its best if they left the game as it is, with the current gen gaming console and graphics work they are putting through. Take an example, Kingdom hearts. A master series I choose "story and Music" but the wait is killing. If Square Enix would take up on CC/CT as series and make a continuation including past remake.. its gonna take a decade. Like how someone can create something like this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXm1q36heZdjj68

This game comes right at the pinnacle of the golden age of gaming. There is not a better time now or before. The passion and care that went into every aspect of these games is unmatched. I'd be hard pressed to find something worthy of being thrown into this "mix" in the last 10 years. The music, art. gameplay, and story just blended perfectly. This game is a masterpiece.

That was well put! I think the 2000ish era was Squaresoft's golden age as well. I also think there are other games before and after (if we're also going to include non-Square games) that are/were as good, but not in such high concentration.

"Scars Left by Time" is still one of my favorite songs I've ever learned to play. Used to blast it on sax all the time as a kid lol. Ugh, this game has such a special and dear place in my heart.
Beautiful tribute to a beautiful game. I love how much environmental artwork you put in here; I love how this game looks, its locales are so artfully designed and rich with natural beauty. Fitting each arrangement with their locations really brought me into the world. My favorite parts were probably Gaea's Navel, The Dead Sea (easily one of my favorite tracks of the game), Star-Stealing Girl...well and pretty much everything that followed that actually. The whole medley is wonderfully and lovingly composed though! It reflects both the calming and emotional sides of this beautiful soundtrack. :)

RebeccaETripp I feel very similarly about both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross's OSTs. I have listened to them so much since first playing each respective game that their music has taken on a life beyond the games themselves and become a consistent soundtrack to my everyday life. I feel like I am never too far away from listening to these tunes for the ten zillionth time, and To Far Away Times still gets me all wistful, every time. :p In fact, I recently watched someone play the beginning of Chrono Cross and it was strange hearing the music in the context of the game lol I listen to the soundtrack constantly, but I haven't actually played the game since the summer of '08, so there was a moment where I was like, "oh, so that's where that song plays!"

I don't think anyone appreciates Chrono cross for the sequel not sequel that it is. Well it has its own story that is only loosely related to its predecessor, the overall arching storyline entails that the original heroes saved the world, but they did it in such a way that allowed a remnant of lavos to try to resurrect himself.

Such an IMPRESSIVE work, my friend! As my vacation time is finishing (next tuesday I'll be back at work and in this vacation time I've been playing this GEM), I did consider I should give a kind of starting of ending days of my free time until next year with this work. Missed Earth Dragon Island theme and also a vocalized Radical Dreamers version, but other than that, this medley is WONDERFUL 😊 Indeed this work reflects how much you love this game. In my heart will prevail Chrono Trigger over Chrono Cross (even when some events in Cross did broke my innocent memories from Trigger), but surely this game and its music will be in my top 10 of most amazing adventures in this kind of art. THANKS A LOT ONCE AGAIN, KEE! 😊

What was the start of all this? When did the cogs of fate begin to turn? Perhaps it is impossible to grasp that answer now, From deep within the flow of time. But for a certanty, back then We loved so many yet hated so much We hurt others and were hurt ourselves. Yet even then we ran like the wind Whilst our laughter echoed Under cerulean skies.... My first ps1 game chrono cross, I want to back old memories :(

From childhood's beginning, to adulthood's twilight ending, I too can all too easily relate as to how truly powerful both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross is, even in my thirtieth year of life on this beautiful world where we've hurt so many, and have hurt ourselves. And yet there is still joy and majesty to be found. And I've found it again thanks to this incredible medley.
@heysup88898 жыл бұрын
damn got a broken heart from this, reminds of a world long gone, but at least it was a beautiful world that lived. now we have new horizons and new adventures to live. thx for all your work !
@RebeccaETripp8 жыл бұрын
+RoyalGuard10 Thank you, too. I know exactly how you feel! Sometimes, I wish I could just freeze time and exist in some moments forever- but the nature of "living in the moment" is that it's always changing and evolving. :) Never forget that- you can feel exactly as you did when playing Chrono Cross for the first time, but in a different way- the core is the same, but the circumstances change, and the lesson we're constantly learning and relearning from this is that the external stuff is transient and superfluous, while the internal stuff is eternal and pure.
@heysup88898 жыл бұрын
true words. like you said the external world will never stay the same but our memories stay with us much longer. Movement is life and with movement you will never be in the same place and you will always encounter new and exciting things ! Hoooray for what has been and what will come !
@RebeccaETripp8 жыл бұрын
RoyalGuard10 :D Yes! And never try to force "the moment". Many of us spend our days pining for our childhood, because children naturally are able to live in "the now" and neither focus on altering their states of consciousness, nor engineering or recreating good experiences. They know how to simply "be". Often "the moment" happens at random, when we're not looking for it- a social person can spend a whole party weaving around individuals, trying to get a meaningful interaction to take place without results, and then suddenly spend the rest of the evening talking to a stranger in the kitchen by the salsa; the two find one another intriguing, as though exploring entire worlds within one another simply because the interaction happened so organically that it never even occurred to them to alter their behavior. Etc.
@heysup88898 жыл бұрын
ha yes of course, itll never work to try and force a friendship or a bond with a person. It is just something that happens if it works and becomes stronger with time ha. Couldn't agree more, good salsa story ha

Chrono Cross's story was so complex (a little haywire at times) that I needed to return to the series as an adult to fully grasp it. Incredible closure to an incredible series, I just hope Crono Marle and Lucca got their happy ending after what appeared to be a tragic end for our heroes.
