Shore of dreams is insane. How to feel nostalgic for a game I never played. This is what heaven must sound like.
@terrapinflyer2734 жыл бұрын
Same here!! I have played just a bit of Chrono Cross, but barely into the story at all. Metaphorically, it's as if the music brings back memories that were never there to begin with, or those that are not your own. And those memories being happier, less complicated times. I guess without memory, you're just left with a feeling, emotion. Sorry. Abstract ranting lol. The Chrono series is such a delightfully emotional experience. I think a lot of that stems from the music being so masterfully composed and fitting to each part of the story. Capturing the essence of such great storytelling.

Something about that song is so timeless. I think it really carries the essence of Chrono Cross to the point that I consider it the "Chrono Cross theme" even ahead of Time's Scar, but I can also remember being so struck by it the first time I played (and I was a dumb eleven-year-old) that I had to stop and listen. It describes a future that will always ache for the past we can never have back.
@metanoia293 жыл бұрын
My all-time favorite game. I can still remember reading about it in GamePro; having never owned an SNES I never even heard about Chrono Trigger, so that article really sold me on the game. I definitely got it around launch, so I was turning 13 at the time. What a formative experience as a teenager- so much hope and so much sorrow all packed into one game.
@SEYEBOY Жыл бұрын
You are so lucky you never played Chrono Trigger, or you would really know the sorrow we all felt playing Chrono Cross. The eternal sunshine of a spotless mind. Greatest Soundtrack for the worst sequel to revoked sequel game ever.😢

@@SEYEBOY ~ I played Chrono Cross before Chrono Trigger. Like 'metanoia29', I didn't have a SNES at the time, so I never had the opportunity to play CT. I played it later and loved it. Both are terrific games in their own right (in my opinion). CT dealt with time travel and the consequences (both good and bad) of tinkering with historic events. CC deals with time-lines, and how one's fate can differ greatly depending on circumstances. To me CC was a bit darker dealing with some of the subject matter compared CT. As I said, I loved both games and the points they tried to drive home. Both also had a phenomenal OST. You could tell Mitsuda puts a lot of heart in soul into his work.

I love chrono cross. It was too easy, the story was a mess and there were too many characters for no reason but there something about it that just kept me hooked. When I felt it was coming to an end I couldnt help but feel this sadness in my heart. I wanted it to go on forever. Only 2 games ever made me feel like that, the other being the original dark souls. My fav song is Another Guldove. Great job TPR.
@SMJSmoK4 жыл бұрын
It also has this crazy 90's plot about time travel and shifting through alternate realities and it implemented it really well and also tied it with the "feel" and atmosphere of the game. I think that this is a huge part of its charm.
@axie5453 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, part of the reason there are so many characters is because they originally wanted to make it so you could recruit any character you spoke to. So if anything I think they were showing restraint, lol. While the story is pretty out there, I'd argue it's got a lot of charm and depth just from the sheer nostalgic and yearning tones of the theme. I mean, you have these characters whose lives are dramatically and sometimes tragically different, all wondering how different it might be if they'd made other choices. Would they be happier? More fulfilled? Would knowing the answer make them content, or just sharpen all their regrets? Is there any way to have one kind of happiness without trading another away for it in the first place? At what point do you betray yourself with all the changes you make throughout your life, and how do you reclaim the person you were when you can't turn back the clock? It engaged with that concept on a playable level, too. You have to make choices and recruit characters without knowing (at least at first) what the alternative is, or whether there was ever an alternative at all. Failures have actual consequences; didn't pick up that item? Miss out on this angle of the cutscene. Didn't visit the dragon? Hope you like lava. Didn't save the girl? Can't have the mcguffin. Saved the girl? Tragic outcome for that poor fairy. (Don't even get me started on the fairies...) Recruiting one of the best characters in the game requires you to abandon a party member to her fate. You can FAIL the WHOLE PLOT, the thing you've been encouraged to do the entire time, and have no idea. Idk. I'm not saying it's a flawless game but I think if you enjoy it there's no reason to linger over its weird or bad points, because it has a lot to offer thematically, musically (of course), and just as a spectacle, packed with constantly evolving plotlines and locations that all speak to that same primal, but self-annihilating, desire to turn back time and do it all over.
@CaptainSkylocke2 жыл бұрын
I loved all the characters and the story was no more of a mess than the western translation of FF7. Plus the OST is incredible.
@Luca-bel2 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainSkylocke I too loved all the characters. The unique accent each one had really sold them as individuals, but having so many felt detrimental to having a deeper connection to most of them. Admittedly, my first and last time playing CC was in 2012. Where as I played the orginal ff7 for the first time last year. Maybe I should play the new edition and see if the story is more coherent to me this time around. Oh and of course the OST is a banger, no doubt! It’s actually super weird that you’re commenting on this because I just started listening to the orginal ost for the first time in years a couple min ago lol
